Hand luggage liquids?

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 21:01

Posting here for traffic so I've tried to turn it into an aibu🙈

We're going on holiday in a few days and were only taking hand luggage.

Is it ok (aibu) to decant moisturisers/shampoo/showergel and make up into the small and see through containers that came with my travel bag?
I mean I could put anything in them after all!?

This might be a stupid question as I think this is their purpose as they came with the bag but my friend thinks otherwise?

Can any seasoned travellers reassure me as I can only use certain products and wouldn't cope without them for 10 days.

You can put them in whatever you like as long as each are less than 100ml and they all fit in one of the clear plastic bags you get at the airport

MoonlightandMusic · 26/03/2018 21:03

Yep - no problem at all. As long as none are over 100ml and you can fit them into the required 1L capacity bag, which the airport usually has for free before you get to security.

SimonBridges · 26/03/2018 21:04

So long as each individual bottle is only 100ml and they all fit in the zip up bag it’s fine. They might ask you to put it in their provided bag rather than your own.

dementedpixie · 26/03/2018 21:04

Yes you can decant into smaller containers as long as they are 100mls or under. They need to all fit in one clear resealable bag max size 20x20cm

bettytaghetti · 26/03/2018 21:04

Yes of course, so long as each container is no more than 100ml you're ok. Have a nice holiday!

dementedpixie · 26/03/2018 21:05

I have always used a small resealable freezer bag and have never been asked to put anything into an alternative bag

SimonBridges · 26/03/2018 21:06

It’s also worth remembering that you can take full sized stuff if you buy it after security.
If the products you need are easily available in Boots you might be able to buy bigger bottles.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 21:06

Phew. That's a relief. I presume the bottles are 100ml as they came in the clear travel bag I bought for that purpose.

Also, baby wipes/facial wipes. Case or liquid bag?

As others have said. But if I go to a country where I can buy shampoo, shower gel, sun tan lotion and other ok beauty products I only take the minimum in hand luggage. I then buy small amounts and leave when I go home.

SimonBridges · 26/03/2018 21:08

Baby wipes don’t need to be in the zip up bag.

dementedpixie · 26/03/2018 21:08

Wipes are not liquids/pastes so ok just in your bag

JT05 · 26/03/2018 21:08

Wipes and non liquids remain in case.

Solid shampoo, soap and conditioners are great when just taking hand luggage

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 21:11

Ahh good. I was hoping to buy as little as possible when over there as they cost 4x the price.

They may test the liquids at security to check the liquid are as you declare.

I've had liquids tested that have been in the original 100 ml bottles as well as the unlabelled 100 ml bottles.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 21:13

Never heard of solid shampoos/conditioners.
The problem I have is me and dds all have different moisturizers and I can only use a specific shampoo. A bit of a pain having to take 3 of everything. But atleast we have 3 liquid bags between us.

Hmmmm... my baby wipes have triggered my hand luggage to go in the extra security check lane for search the last 3 flights. After them being examined/ swabbed they were deemed fine! I don’t know if hey have been particularly ‘wet’- I dunno.

It doesn't matter what bag you use as long as it is a zip up (max 20 cm x 20 cm) bag. The idea is that you can only take up to a litre of liquids: a litre of acid is better than ten litres of acid.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 21:15

Off to tip 100ml of water into the one remaining empty bottle. Just to be sure 😋

I have never had issues with baby wipes. You could also buy them inside the airport from boots if you are worried!

Maximum of ten 100ml bottles per passenger

frieda909 · 26/03/2018 21:18

I think you’ll find that your bottles are fine! 100ml is actually quite a lot more than I always think it is. A standard sized tube of toothpaste is 100ml, most travel miniatures seem to be quite a bit smaller than that.

TopangaD · 26/03/2018 21:24

Some airport security are fine as long as it’s a clear bag but I have been in two airports that have insisted you use their bags and they must close at the top

I know, I was replying to several people who said you used the bags given at the airport and that they may ask you to transfer your liquids into one of their bags. I've never been asked to do this

dementedpixie · 26/03/2018 21:26

Small resealable freezer bags are the correct size and fasten at the top too
