Hand luggage liquids?

Posting here for traffic so I've tried to turn it into an aibu🙈

We're going on holiday in a few days and were only taking hand luggage.

Is it ok (aibu) to decant moisturisers/shampoo/showergel and make up into the small and see through containers that came with my travel bag?
I mean I could put anything in them after all!?

This might be a stupid question as I think this is their purpose as they came with the bag but my friend thinks otherwise?

Can any seasoned travellers reassure me as I can only use certain products and wouldn't cope without them for 10 days.

The airports that make you swap your liquids into their bags must have horrendous queues. That must take ages!

I’ve been asked to swap to their bag once, at Heathrow. It only took two seconds while I was queuing up.

"Justalittlelemondrizzle

Off to tip 100ml of water into the one remaining empty bottle."

Hold on, if your bottle is close to 100ml & doesn't say on it that its size is 100ml, then they may well take it off you. "We're not weights & measures" I was told as I tried to get something in an unmarked container through security...

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/03/2018 23:22

There's no weight markings on the bottles. I've bought a couple of sets from different places and none of them do. Just checked and theyre 95ml and 100ml.

Also remember it's the capacity of the bottle not the contents, a half filled 200ml bottle isn't allowed.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 27/03/2018 00:22

Does it matter that there's no capacity markings on the bottles? They're clearly travel bottles.

It depends on the security officer. You'll probably get away with it, but I was going through every day & was told to buy a container with the volume marked on it. But I did take it through for 6 months before then.

Buy any extra toiletries you need once you are through security. That way you can put your essential creams and potions in the plastic bag at home ready for packing.

I work in travel & have done for years, these are totally fine! anything below 100mls is grand. Wipes you dont need to worry about as they're not a liquid - it's only LAGS that go in the plastic bags - liquids, aerosols & gels.

KatharinaRosalie · 27/03/2018 11:28

Wipes often show up funny on the scanner an I've had extra security checks a few times because of that. Put them somewhere easily accessible so you don't need to unpack everything.

I’ve travelled a lot on just hand luggage and I’ve never had security question the size of the bottles if it’s not marked on them. I’ve been pulled over to have my baggage checked several times - I must just look guilty! - but never size of bottles. Do remember that the bottle can’t hold more than 100ml though; it can’t be a 500ml bottle with only 100ml in it.

Don’t forget that you can also do click and collect at Boots once you’ve gone through security, that can be any size as you didn’t bring it though security yourself. Make sure they’ve sealed it in a security bag if you’ve got a connecting flight, else you’ll fall foul of the 100ml rule for the second flight.

Svalberg · 29/03/2018 10:26

As I said, I was working airside at an airport so was going through daily & got my jar confiscated due to it having no indication of the volume on it. I was told to go to Boots & buy a container with the volume marked on.

Wipes don't need to be in the bag but lipsticks or lipsavles do - this catches lots of people out

Aridane · 29/03/2018 10:50

What about mascara?

notacooldad · 29/03/2018 11:18

As long as none are over 100ml and you can fit them into the required 1L capacity bag, which the airport usually has for free before you get to security.

Liverpool airport charge £1 for 2 bags but they are free at Manchester.
