not all of them obviously but a few
it does make my blood boil
i guess they are ignorant
but I hate judgmental attitudes.

how to cope in this scenario?

can't think of any examples now, too busy changing the subject away from unfairness of people who work hard compared to those on benefits

Ooops! 'bigoted' not 'bigotted' ^ Blush

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 11:30

i need to learn tolerance, indeed, you are right probably.

OP posts:
Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 11:33

i am tolerant, I just wanted to vent

You seem to be misunderstanding what the word bigoted means. Having an opinion on something doesn't make you a bigot.

Yes the housing thing sounds a bit unpleasant, but the free university education, how is that bigoted?

Do you have any other examples that actually might show that your co workers do actually have dodgy opinions.

UnicornRainbowColours · 25/03/2018 11:34

It’s not bigoted to be fed up with working hard for a living and buying nice homes etc to have people handed everything on a plate doing nothing with their lives and expecting us the tax payers to fund them.

My flats have social housing and it’s a nightmare, I live in a nice flat in a nice part of London and I’ve worked hard to be able to afford that. And in another block is the social housing who are frankly criminals! They break in to our car park, they do drug deals, leave littler and trash our community areas stv play loud blaring music scream and shout at each other so having balcony doors open in summer is near impossible so no it’s bigoted to not want to live near that when you’ve worked hard to buy a home and ppl like that get given it at our tax paying expense!!!

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 11:35

But you see I live in social housing and I am not a criminal.
they are tarring everyone with the same brush

Always have a little laugh at people who think those with a different opinion are ignorant and need to be shown the error of their ways.
Maybe they think you are ignorant OP?

UnicornRainbowColours · 25/03/2018 11:38

@Sladtybartfast the thing is your right I know plenty people in council/scocial housing hard working ppl etc. But sadly the few are outweighed by the criminals etc ppl aren’t bigoted their fed up!

UpstartCrow · 25/03/2018 11:38

The attitude towards people in social housing is bigoted.
The US is 'economically educated' and look at the mess it's in. You can die for want of insulin.

MsRagnell · 25/03/2018 11:39

Work is often like that.

Small talk is the way to go ime.

headinhands · 25/03/2018 11:40

My dd works in retail. She regularly repeats the utter bigoted drivel she hears from her colleagues. You couldn't write it!

Sparklesocks · 25/03/2018 11:42

I know it’s easier said than done but I think it’s best not to engage, keep your head down during the discussion and wait until the topic changes to something more innocuous.

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 11:44

you are right sparkle

MsRagnell · 25/03/2018 11:44

When I had more energy I used to make myself a bit of a mini project in getting along with workplace grumps. They sometimes turned out to be rough diamonds. Other less gem like ones often taught me something anyway.

Don't write people off too easily.

Jaxhog · 25/03/2018 11:46

People aren't bigoted just because they don't agree with your point of view! But you are if you object to someone disagreeing with you.

Why not try listening to them. Maybe they have a point?

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 11:48

I'd be useless on jury services Grin

Dairy you sound awfully silly you know.

WhalesOfYore · 25/03/2018 12:08

Daring to question bien-pensant opinion is now bigotry, is it? No wonder lefty thought-policing is losing its power.

Birdsgottafly · 25/03/2018 12:34

I've come to terms with the fact that a lot of people don't have critical thinking skills and they don't bother to educate themselves. If you have a bias, you should be trying to prove yourself wrong, but that is out of the capability of a lot of people, because of laziness and a need to feel better than others.

New build Social Housing where I live only goes to working applicants.

Likewise if you are working, you go into a higher band.

I would be called a bigot by some because of my views on Transgender issues.

You've got to learn to be sympathetic towards people who are carrying around all this pettiness and meanness, it is awful to live in their heads.

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 12:35

smashyourglasses · 25/03/2018 12:41

If you live in a lovely place surrounded by rolling fields and countryside, it's not bigoted to not want a housing estate or ugly warehouses built on them Confused

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 12:51

You have wrong end of stick smash

Venting is good in tiny doses I find.

Too much can head off into rumination.

I think if you can provide someone with new information, then engaging might move their position over the long term by giving them something new to work on.
