I mean, what's wrong with carrying your shopping in a basket FFS?

personally I find all forms of basket or trolley an affront to nature so I just kick my purchases round the aisles until I'm ready to pay. At a discount obviously due to dammage

StealthPolarBear · 19/06/2008 20:31

riven for some reason I now picture you as Snow WHite with the 7 Dwarves as your minions wandering round the supermarket

I asked em if they thought I could squish him into a basket to sleep.

They looked a bit and didn't seem sure if I was serious or not

To be fair, at that age he probably would have fitted, but the milk on him would have been cold and cruel

I have a large pot that I balance on my head!!

bergentulip · 19/06/2008 20:48

Can put both children in the trolley and precariously balance the items I want purchase around them as I go.

ChukkyPig · 19/06/2008 21:15

I keep chucking the stuff into the pushchair, thinking it is a trolley (wheels along after all). My mum does the same when she is pushing the sprog. This surely must be a common problem?

Luckily the fruit n veg aisle is first, so after a few bananas, carrots and broccoli in the face, the sprog can relax, as by then I have usually realised my mistake. Fortunate for her the bottled drinks, frozen foods and, um, brick aisles are not first up.

I also made a right arse of myself the other day. Out without the baby, and so used to pushing somthing, I walked out of the supermarket with the trolley and through the shopping centre. I was just pushing it through the doorway of monsoon when a lady coming the other way gave me a . I suddenly realised my mistake. Getting it back up to the supermarket was a real walk of shame. At least I didn't try to feed it a fruit shoot!!!

fizzbuzz · 19/06/2008 21:29

Try shopping for 6. It won't even fit in a trolley

You know, in Holland, they actually have signs up everywhere insisting that using a trolley or basket is mandatory. (!)

But, me with my total disregard for pointless authority, ignore this of course!, as I have worked out quite nicely how to fit a week's shopping onto/under/in the buggy, with child seated inside at the same time
I defy someone to challenge me!

Baskets are soooo tiresome.

Goober · 19/06/2008 21:49

I can't imagine carrying my mother-load in a basket, for a start it would take 10 or more to hold it all.

pinkyp · 19/06/2008 21:54

do u mean some people who buy a loaf of bread and use a trolley? I saw a bloke do this today whilst i was struggling with my 5 bags on my pushchair trying to lean forward so ds didnt tip up! lol

hayley2u · 19/06/2008 22:28

i have been known to get a trolly to just get a few things, but i can not able to hold loads of things especially heavy thingsor if i have my dd with me as she heavy lol. i have lazyitis but there there to be used so whats the problem, does it bother you that much?

EyeballsintheSky · 19/06/2008 22:35

With my serious head on...

My aunt had a back problem a few years back and she went to a top back doctor blokey thing. He said you should never ever use a basket in the supermarket because it completely buggers your back. Something to do with the way the weight is balanced that's different to carrying a bag because of the shape of the thing.
