To ask you to help me think of a title for my hospital radio show please?

I volunteer for a hospital radio station, and have recently started presenting a show with another volunteer.

We co-present his show, and I then present an hour of his show on my own - so the hour-long show is basically a mini-show of my own.

He’s asked me to think of a name for my own show, and I’m a bit stuck, to be honest!

I’ve thought of a few names, and I’m not totally happy with them yet. I’m also unsure about the names I could have for the three features I’m doing for the show.

Could you help, please?

To give a bit of background about my show, I play a few songs (around ten or so) and talk a bit why I chose them. Usually, they’re songs that I just enjoy listening to.

For the show name, the co-presenter has suggested The French Hour and I’ve thought of Something for the Oui-Kend (it’s a weekend radio show, and this gives it a bit of a French theme, but it’s a bit lame!!)

I also have three features in the show, all linked with a French theme.

For one of the features, I play two French songs (one old-ish French song, one modern French song). A name that I‘ve thought of for this feature is Paris Calling (a play on words of the song London Calling by The Clash, as it’s a radio show with French songs).

The other feature I’m doing is a French-themed quiz. I’ll ask a question related to France or French-speaking countries, and give listeners time to think of an answer and to Tweet in or email their answers, and then I’ll tell them the answer afterwards.

The final feature is where I’ll talk about a French film that I’ve seen recently and review it for the listeners. I would also include some French cultural news in there if anything had happened that week. Maybe I could call it ‘Flicks from France’ or ‘Cinema Saturday’ or something along those lines?

Do you have any suggestions for possible names for the show and the three features please?

Thanks :)

When did we start calling radio programmes "a show"?

Desert Island (slipped) discs?

BikeRunSki · 21/03/2018 15:48

The French Connection
The (or Le) Tour de France

bridgetreilly · 21/03/2018 15:48

We'll Always Have Paris sounds like a great name to me.

bridgetreilly · 21/03/2018 15:49

Je t'aime
Je ne regrette rien
Le Vie En Rose

Synecdoche · 21/03/2018 15:51

I like Oui-Kend but not sure this translates to radio!

French Connection or We'll Always Have Paris are great suggestions.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/03/2018 15:53

The Gaul Bladder?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 21/03/2018 16:14

I think Le Weekend is better than The Oui-Kend tbh.

I like The French Connection too.

Slippery · 21/03/2018 16:19

"Lost in France" for the title of the whole hour.

"Le Quiz" (for the quiz, obviously)

Butterymuffin · 21/03/2018 16:26

The French Connection! Anything with actual French in it risks being mispronounced.

When did we start calling radio programmes "a show"?

Presenters have been doing this for years.

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/03/2018 16:49

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions, everyone! :)

I really like The French Connection for the title of the programme :) thanks!

I think I’ll call the French music feature Paris Calling, and then call the French film feature Flicks from France (unless anyone has any other names that they prefer!)

For the quiz feature, I was thinking of having a pun in the title - what do you all think? For example, I was thinking of calling it something like: Quizness as usual, Risky quizness or Let’s get quizzical (and I could maybe play Lets get physical by Olivia Newton-John in the intro, and make it a bit silly and cheesy?) What do you all think? Is that way too cheesy?

No name suggestions but this is a show I would enjoy listening to I think! Best of luck

SadieHH · 21/03/2018 17:02

I’m consulting DH who has been doing hospital radio for 30 years. Hold on...

SadieHH · 21/03/2018 17:03

Firstly he wants to know why the French theme?

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/03/2018 17:07

Thanks again, everyone :) if anyone is interested in listening, the radio station’s called Barts Hospital Radio and you can listen online during the show :)

The programme’s usually broadcast on Saturday afternoons between 2pm and 5pm. We’re having a break for the next couple of weeks though, so it’ll be next on in early April.

If you’d like to get involved in the station (we’re based in Mile End in east London and always looking for more volunteers!), please feel free to PM me.

Feel free to Tweet or email in during the programme and to tell your family and friends about us :)

The Radio 1 Breakfast Show started in the late 60s, so nearly fifty years by my reckoning.

ScreamingValenta · 21/03/2018 17:10

How about 'Mind your own quizness' for the quiz?

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/03/2018 17:10

Hi Sadie :) thanks for your help! My co-presenter just asked me what I’d like my show to be about, and as I love French music and French culture, I thought that would be a fairly original (and hopefully interesting!) theme that I know a bit about. The co-presenter then suggested that I link my features in the show together by connecting them with a French theme. The programme is still very much a work in progress though, so I’d definitely be open to your feedback and suggestions.

You sound really nice :)
Good luck

TwitterQueen1 · 21/03/2018 18:08

I thought you were going to say you were based in one of the channel seaside towns where France is a lot closer to the UK (psychologically speaking!)

Do you think this might be a bit limiting week on week? I would wonder why everything is about France.

Have you thought about keeping your features but changing countries each week? I think this might be more interesting tbh and it would give you much more material.

DearyDearyDeary · 21/03/2018 18:21

French Kiss FM.

I'll get my coat......

Success anyway!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 21/03/2018 18:29

Would love to listen to it! Will put a note in the diary for April. Are you at the Royal London? My Nan lived just behind there, so I’ll think of her whilst I’m listening.

AdaColeman · 21/03/2018 18:41

'qui quoi quand' for the quiz

'chansons françaises' for the music

All sounds like such fun OP, lots of luck!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/03/2018 18:45

Thanks again for all of your help and suggestions :) TimeIhada we’re based at Mile End Hospital for now, but hoping to also move to Bart’s Hospital soon :)
