What time do they start getting ready for bed? Is it the same every night in order of what happens?

My DD is so blinking annoying....she always delays and thinks of things to put bed off!

Shower, all electronics and tv off by 8. He goes to bed and reads for 30 mins, lights off at 9.

Had a few nights where he needs to Pee every 20 mins! 🙄 Threat of removal of after school activities put a stop to that delay tactic.

Can’t wait for the smelly teenage never getting out of bed phase, want my lie ins back again 😂

AJPTaylor · 21/03/2018 10:57

she goes up at 9 reluctantly. we go up at 9.15 to read to her. then she has an audio book. asleep by 10. She gets up at 7.30 so has 9.5 hrs sleep.

whyisntlifelikeadisneymovie · 21/03/2018 11:01

DS is 10, he was going to bed at 8pm but found he was messing around in the bathroom so it moved further and further back, he now gets ready for bed at 7:15, in bed lights off for 7:30 and wakes around 7:30, he definitely needs his sleep x

AjasLipstick · 21/03/2018 11:04

Mine is never really settled before 9.30pm no matter how early or late I start the whole rigmarole!

It's as though her inner clock won't allow it! Yet she seems tired in the morning...we get up at 7 and I get the impression she'd sleep longer if she could.

Mousewatch · 21/03/2018 11:04

My 10&12 year olds go up at 8.40 to brush teeth and wee, in bed for 8:45 and alarm set for 6:30.

Mousewatch · 21/03/2018 11:05

If My 12 year old has been good I sometimes let her go on her phone until 9.

formerbabe · 21/03/2018 11:06

Upstairs at about 8pm...read or draw quietly until 8.30pm then lights out. He needs his sleep.

AmysTiara · 21/03/2018 11:08

Mine goes up at half 8 ish. Has a shower then I read a chapter of his book . He reads well,he just likes listening to me read. Then he goes to bed and reads on his own for as long as he likes then its sleep.

I ignore him going into his brothers room and them titting about thinking I can't hear Grin you have to let them think they've won sometimes.

BlackInk · 21/03/2018 11:14

My DS is a bit younger - coming up to 9, yr 4 at school.

Usually has a bath / brushes teeth around 7 to 7.30, reads to me for 10 mins, then is allowed to potter quietly in his room, read or listen to audio books until about 8.15 (bit later at the weekends) when I pop up to tuck him in and say goodnight. After that he's allowed to read or listen a little more until sleepy. He has trouble falling asleep so I try not to be too strict with him about reading as long as he's in bed.

I reckon he's usually asleep by 9 but sometimes later. He wakes around 6.30 am every . single . day .

Allthewaves · 21/03/2018 11:18

Plays electronics/watches tv until 8/8.30ish while I put his brothers to bed. Then just about 8.30 it's brush teeth and he can read in bed until 9. He does sports 2 nights wk and we don't get in until 8.30 so those nights it a quick shower and into bed.

Allthewaves · 21/03/2018 11:20

Mine wakes about 7ish naturally. They don't have to be out of bed until 7.45 on a morning. An earlier bed time means he's up at 6am

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 21/03/2018 11:25

In the bath about 730, then reads while I put DD to bed, then he sometimes has a story with me and lights out about 830, sometimes 9. He usually wakes up about 8 so seems to need quite a lot of sleep.

KC225 · 21/03/2018 11:30

8 pm upstairs for toothbrushing, getting ready for bed. Me calling them back down to take up various items they have left scattered about. Possibly them forgetting to charge phones/kindles - not allowed upstairs. In bed by 8.30. Weekends and school holidays 8.30 to 9. They will be 11 in May.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 21/03/2018 11:33

It depends what night it is as a couple of nights a week he has activities until 8pm which basically means he gets back, has a snack and a bath and goes to bed. He'll read to himself for a little bit and is usually asleep by 9pm.
On "normal" nights, he usually watches TV until 7.30, then is told to go and have a bath, then I'll go and read to him for a bit and he'll then read to himself. If there's any messing about to be done, it'll be that bit in between TV and bath when he's up and downstairs a million times while the bath is running, asking/telling me things. But he's always been really good in that once he's in bed, he'll stay there unless he needs a wee etc.
I let him read for pretty much as long as he wants to, though if I notice the light still on past 9.30pm I'll tell him to stop!
He seems to wake up naturally around 7am most days so I usually have to wake him for school as we need to be out of the door before 8am.

catbasilio · 21/03/2018 11:39

8pm gadgets off and upstairs, getting ready for bed up until 8:30pm and sometimes reading up to 9pm.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 21/03/2018 11:50

To bed at 8, lights usually off by 8.20 after faffing about.

Cacofonix · 21/03/2018 11:54

Screens/tv off at 7pm. Then it's bath, teeth, mooching around. Reading - sometimes herself, sometimes our shared book. Lights out at 8pm. She needs to be woken up at 7am for school so she obviously still needs a substantially long sleep but I'm guessing she probably isn't falling asleep until 8.30. Although every time we push he bedtime out younger DD's bedtime gets later and she is really grumpy when tired (7 yr old). She has two late activities a week which means she's lights out by 8.30.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 21/03/2018 12:03

bath around 6.30, then bumming around downstairs reading/TV/board games until somewhere between 8.30-9pm. Aim for screens off by 8 but sometimes fail as I'm quite forgetful. Lights out 8.45-9.15. Up at 7.45am.

Might need to shift things a little earlier when high school starts, as she'll need to be up earlier.

implantsandaDyson · 21/03/2018 12:33

Upstairs by 8/8.30 - sometimes she goes up earlier if she's wants to. By that time she's had a shower/bath. Then lights off somewhere between 9.15/9.30. When she's upstairs she reads, watches something on the iPad, talks to her friends, faffs about with her older sister (12). She wakes up independently at around 7.15/7.30am. Everything is pushed back by about an hour on weekends/school holidays.

0h · 21/03/2018 12:37

Bed at 10pm.

I read to him until he falls asleep - by half ten, often sooner.

Since he was born he's never been an early to bed type.

anxious2017 · 21/03/2018 12:39

Bed at 7-7:30, he's allowed TV in bed (streamed cartoons or film) until 9, on alternate nights he must read. Lights out at 9.

SagelyNodding · 21/03/2018 12:42

Upstairs straight after dinner, so around 8-8.30pm. They(10y.o and 7y.o) shower either after school or after their sports activities so are already in pjs. Teeth, a book to read, usually they are asleep really quickly! Up at 7.30, so a fairly long night's sleep

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 21/03/2018 12:43

Upstairs to brush teeth and put PJs on around 8.45pm. Reads in bed, lights off 9.15-9.30pm (depends if she is knackered - if not she'll beg to read one more chapter...a girl after her mothers heart Grin).

Fri/Sat she can stay up until 10-ish if she isn't too tired.

StormyLovesOdd · 21/03/2018 12:46

My 10 year old goes to bed at 8:15pm on a school night and 8:45pm Friday/Saturday night. Either me or DH reads to her for 10 minutes (even thought she can read as well as we can!!) then she has 10 minutes of reading/drawing on her own then lights off. DD sleeps well and wakes naturally on her own at about 6:30am.

Troika · 21/03/2018 12:57

Upstairs by 8, shower, teeth, into bed.

Can read until 8.30 officially but I don’t actually police this, as long as he’s in his room and quiet it’s fine. He’s an early riser though so rarely reads much later than this.

The 11 year old however reads for hours and has to be dragged out of bed in the morning!
