What shall I do about this holiday?

Not AIBU but need speedy reply with advice.

Ds (5) was sick on Monday in the night (now Wednesday here in Uk), lots of sick. Kept him off school yesterday and had a sofa day. He was fine in himself mostly. Up and down. Lying down sometimes but also jumping around. Saying his heart was hurting. No other symptoms except being sick.

Wasn't sure what to give him food wise. He had toast with butter for b fast and no lunch. Bacon sandwich for dinner with bread and butter. Dh thinks silly to give this. Was a bacon sandwich wrong?

Anyway, ds sick again last night, tiny amount of sick. Then a further three times with just water and bile. Again no other symptoms.

The problem is we are going on a long haul holiday tomorrow morning. We are meant to get up at 5 am, drive for two hours to the airport, then do 7 hour flight! We don't know if we should cancel holiday or still go. We would loose the total price of the holiday to cancel £6,500. Or £200 per person to try and change dates on it with hotel provider. The flights look like they are non- transferable and we would loose the cost automatically. We don't have travel insurance.

Dh wants to go and reckons its just a stomach bug. He reckons if we stave ds today and on the flight it will be ok. Reckons its a 24 hour bug.

I am reluctant as worried he will be sick again in the night. Worried about having strange food in a hot place will just make him sick again and he will just want to rest all holiday. Think the holiday will be ruined with moany ds. Don't want to risk taking him on long flight if he's ill, could be a nightmare. But we stand to loose £6,500 if we don't.

You can't go. If I got on the plane and found out I was in the vicinity if a Vommy child I would go baulistic. It is unfair on the people who will likely catch the bug whilst on holiday and unpleasant for those sharing a confined space with someone puking.

It's not everyone else's problem that you don't have travel insurance

TittyGolightly · 21/03/2018 15:59

Will buy anti sickness at airport if he seems ill tomorrow still.

Hmm
MarthasGinYard · 21/03/2018 16:02

I know it's a grim read

I guess at least now, if God forbid one of you break your neck whilst away

You won't have to crowd fund to get home.

Greenglassteacup · 21/03/2018 16:03

Yes because anti nausea medication will definitely prevent gastroenteritis

ChilliCheeseMama · 21/03/2018 16:03

Helpful @Greenglassteacup I'm sure OP will now cancel her entire holiday thanks to your helpful comment. Where do you suggest she goes instead since you felt we should all know that you've never fancied Dubai? Hmm

freshstart24 · 21/03/2018 16:04

Non prescription sickness medicine will not help a child with a bug. It only helps with motion sickness.

If you need to vomit, then you should not be taking meds to prevent it without a specific diagnosis e.g. severe morning sickness or vertigo.

Greenglassteacup · 21/03/2018 16:04

Just saying it’s not somewhere I’d ever fancied going, just that. No need to get all enraged

magpi3 · 21/03/2018 16:04

Firstly *lose

“Didn’t get it because we’ve never needed it before” Confused

Yep, that is how insurance works!

when my kids are sick with stomach bugs, I also think the best thing to give them to eat is butter and bacon. Confused

You know you can actutally go to the doctors ? Confused

Rawhh · 21/03/2018 16:05

You do know your insurance won't cover your DS being ill abroad. When I was unwell abroad it cost £8,000 and that wasn't in the very expensive ME. Luckily my insurance covered it. I also wasn't deemed fit to fly until 48hrs after the last instance on DandV.

I can't work out if you are fucking stupid or pig headed - perhaps both?

MarthasGinYard · 21/03/2018 16:05

Didn’t get it because we’ve never needed it before”

Thick as mince

freshstart24 · 21/03/2018 16:06

Choosing to take this flight is extremely irresponsible. I can imagine how disappointed you are but that doesn't excuse putting your own holiday enjoyment ahead of the welfare of a plane full of people.

Responsible people do not board flights under these circumstances. Selfish people do.

You need to decide which type of person you are.....

freshstart24 · 21/03/2018 16:14

If your child is sick on the plane, will you be happy for him to tell the stewarding staff the truth about being unwell for the past few days?

How about if he has to see a doctor on holiday? Again, will you want him to lie about being ill before he left the UK?

I'm sure you'd hope these people wouldn't be made aware of the truth- because you know full well that would make you an extremely irresponsible parent.

Which rather proves the fact that you know you are being irresponsible and selfish.

Tinkobell · 21/03/2018 16:16

Does he have a temperature? What's coming out the rear end?

Glumglowworm · 21/03/2018 16:22

People getting sick on a plane when they didn’t know they had a bug is horrible but it is absolutely not the same thing as deliberately going on a plane when you know full well that your child has a bug! The former is unfortunate, the latter is fucking selfish and irresponsible. It is not the fault of anyone else on the plane that you were too stupid to get travel insurance until it was too late. Why should their holidays get ruined because of your stupidity and selfishness?

You clearly don’t care that YABVU, you want your holiday. No matter the impact on anyone else, including your own child. That is increadibly selfish and irresponsible parenting.

purplelass · 21/03/2018 16:22

I find it strange that you start a thread called What shall I do about this holiday? when you've already decided that you're going to go whatever anyone says. Why waste our time?

I truly hope for your son's sake that he's OK to fly, poor mite

Motoko · 21/03/2018 16:24

This is how pandemics spread globally so quickly.

teaiseverything · 21/03/2018 16:24

Casual bit of Wednesday afternoon insurance fraud grabs a cuppa

whatnextfred · 21/03/2018 16:25

I think you are incredibly ignorant and arrogant to even consider a flight with a probably contagious child. At best.

1981m · 21/03/2018 16:34

F off marthus- sorry I am not perfect. I am sure you've never made a mistake!

OP posts:
Rachie1973 · 21/03/2018 16:34

1981m

I'd love to be all morally indignant but unless my child threw up tonight I'd be on that plane tomorrow.

Rachie1973 · 21/03/2018 16:37

CatchingBabies
You are aware that vomiting bugs can kill a severely immunocomprimised person?

Then it would be entirely unwise to board ANY plane without assuming their own protection. Many bugs are contagious before symptoms show, and the air on the plane is recycled. So there's little point in this absolutely miles off guilt trip.

thisisme2018 · 21/03/2018 16:39

If you go then you are incredibly selfish. If anyone found out prior to take off, you could be taken off the plane.

Potentially infecting others with this bug and ruining their holidays just so that you don't lose your money is very wrong.

Also how do you know that your son is feeling 100%? Would you want to go on a long haul flight when you've got a sickness bug? I certainly wouldn't.

Please take the financial hit this time and realise the importance of insurance for future holidays.

1981m · 21/03/2018 16:40

He's been sick three times no other symptoms. He's begging me for another bacon sandwichSmilepeople are acting like he's got continuous sickness and diarrhoea and something really bad. If that was the case I certainly wouldn't be taking him. He was last sick 2am this morning. I really think he was only sick last night because of the butter and bacon. I don't think he would have been if he hadn't had that.

OP posts:
shesakeeper · 21/03/2018 16:46

Oh ffs OP, stop looking for validation on here and just go on your fucking holiday, you're going to do it anyway.

PuppyMonkey · 21/03/2018 16:48

Sounds like he’s craving salt OP (bacon) make sure you give him water and rehydration sachets. I wouldn’t give bananas to someone who’s been sick, I Find fruit too hard on the tummy tbh.
