Probably a boring one...

I have tickets for a musical in London on Friday afternoon after wisdom teeth extraction on the Tuesday morning. I've never had surgery before but AIBU to think I will be fine to sit on a train and sit through a performance after 3 days recovery?

I think it's different for everyone.

One of my friends had her wisdom teeth out and she looked like the fat Alien like creature 'Pearl', in the Blade film as her face swelled up so much and was in a lot of pain for a good few days afterwards.

I was so petrified of my face swelling up and had loads of ice packs ready, loads of scarves etc, as many painkillers as I thought I needed...

The day after I had 2 wisdom teeth removed under GA, I was at monkey world, looking at monkeys and sucking on quavers..... honestly very little pain at all and was totally fine.

So I really don't think you know how you're going to feel.

emmaluvseeyore · 20/03/2018 13:54

I had 4 out under GA and was able to eat a Chinese takeaway the same night. I was completely fine.

soulrider · 20/03/2018 13:56

My mum had bought in a week's worth of soft foods to nurse me through - soup, ice cream etc. She was most put out when I could eat as normal the next day.

Notso · 20/03/2018 14:00

DH looked like he had been hit in the face with a brick, his lips and face were all swollen, he couldn't speak properly or eat properly.

TheJoyOfSox · 20/03/2018 14:13

I had three take out. Overnight stay in hospital, general anaesthetic and a rip roaring temperature, but even though I was very sore, tender and couldn’t talk very much, i would have gone to a play or a concert if I had tickets and had been looking forward to it.
Dose up well on any painkillers if they give you any and enjoy your show.

JaneEyre70 · 20/03/2018 14:13

I had 3 of mine removed 1 at a time in the dentist chair. The 1st 2 were fine, the 3rd had a twisted root and took over an hour to get out. I was horribly bruised and swollen after, and in a lot of pain for around a week. I had it done on a friday afternoon and ended up having the whole of the next week off.

That's why my 4th one is still in my mouth.

I think you're mad to even contemplate it Grin.

MinesaPinot · 20/03/2018 14:16

I had 4 taken out under GA years ago. Two hadn't come through fully, and one was lying sideways, so you could only see the side of the tooth breaking through the skin. I remember it being very painful, my face swelled up despite DM's best efforts of ice cubes in a tea towel, and I could only eat soup and scrambled egg. It was grim I have to say.

VodkaAndRusschian · 20/03/2018 14:22

I had two top ones out at the dentist's surgery in the morning. Went into work in the afternoon (office). I couldn't answer the phone, of course, because of the wodge of cotton wool I had to keep in there for a while. Lived on scrambled egg and lukewarm soup for a couple of days but otherwise fine.

VodkaAndRusschian · 20/03/2018 14:23

Heh. Just noticed that soup and scrambled egg is a common choice :)

Notonthestairs · 20/03/2018 14:28

Ive just had to change theatre tickets at 5 hours notice - the theatre was incredibly helpful and swapped them to a week later (£4 admin charge). Worth calling them I'd say.

Spicylolly · 20/03/2018 14:29

I had all mine removed under ga. I was still feeling rough after 3 days and my face swelled up and bruised too. I looked like a mouldy pumpkin haha. Personally I would cancel but I hate going out anyway so don't listen to me 😉

soulrider · 20/03/2018 14:32

I chose to have mine under local rather than general as I think they knock you around a bit if you're out of it!

kaytee87 · 20/03/2018 14:35

I had all 4 of mine out under LA plus sedation. The sedation didn't affect me at all. Was back at work two days later.
Take arnica a few days before, during and after to help with bruising and swelling.

kaytee87 · 20/03/2018 14:36

Should add, mine weren't through and my gums had to be cut open then stitched.

SluttyButty · 20/03/2018 14:36

I had mine out under a GA, had a fat moon face for a week and could only eat jelly due to pain. Had to write rather than speak. I was off work for a week.

Lovemusic33 · 20/03/2018 14:49

I had 8 teeth out at hospital including my wisdom teeth (one was impacted), a felt sorry for myself for a couple days and my face was swollen and bruised. The pain wasn’t too bad, over the counter pain killers helped. I didn’t feel high after I come around, I bled a lot and slept a lot.

HarryStylesismycrack · 20/03/2018 14:59

I had one removed under GA, within 48 hours I had a septic jaw, had to return to theatre get a drain put in and spend 4 nights in hospital on IV’s. I had another one removed under local in the dentists chair. I was absolutely fine after. Impossible to tell 🤷🏼‍♀️

user1494409994 · 20/03/2018 15:05

Had three out under local. One was impacted and needed a couple of stitches. The others came out with a bit of tugging. I was fine and the only issue I had was a need for Mars bars. I'd never normally eat them though. I was back at work the next day on both occasions.

Lweji · 20/03/2018 15:55

All four at the same time? Shock

I was fine from Saturday to Monday when I extracted mine, but it was one at a time.

Still, from Tuesday morning to Friday afternoon, I'd think you'd have recovered, unless there are complications.

FluffyWuffy100 · 20/03/2018 16:16

Yes you will be fine.

You might have two black eyes though!

FluffyWuffy100 · 20/03/2018 16:17

IU had all 4 out under GA (none had come thru t all)

It was painful, I looked like a cross between a hamster and a domestic violence victim, and could only eat pureed food... but I would have been ok to sit on a train and watch a show after 3 days .

IStillMissBlockbuster · 20/03/2018 17:40

Wow, I never had any bruises! I did bleed after brushing my teeth for a few days though. Ouch.

Ellendegeneres · 20/03/2018 17:47

I had upper two done at same time. Some facial swelling, but when the local wore off completely I was in a lot of pain.
For the rest of the day I wasn’t in charge of dc. Next day was business as usual- lone parent so no choice. I did enjoy the whole night where someone else dealt with my newborn though lol

Day three... yeah I could have taken it on. But not with all four. Can you rearrange the surgery? Less costly for you?

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 20/03/2018 17:58

What type of sedation are you having? If it's gas and air you will be normal afterwards but if it's iv that's when people act weird I think.
It's really hard to say, if there's no way you can rearrange the theatre then I would probably keep it.
Some people are fine and just need some paracetamol others get swelling, bruisig etc. Some wisdom teeth come out really easily and have absolutely no problems, others need to have a surgical extraction which is when you make a cut in the gum and that requires stitches..it really depends on the type of extraction, your pain threshold etc

Fallofrain · 20/03/2018 18:02

I've had 2 wisdom teeth out.
One at dentist and one at hospital as it was infected and near bone. Neither under General

Both were in general underwhelming experiences! I went to work the next day after the first one and didn't take any paracetamol etc the next day. The hospital one was a bit more painful at the time, went home and slept it off. The next day I had chips! I did need some bog standard ibuprofen or paracetamol the next day as I was achey.

I think if you going to lose the tickets, why not hold on to them just in case you can go?
I'd of been gutted to miss a show!
