To think that the hospital have treated me poorly?

I was meant to have an appointment at EAPU today due to bleeding and stabbing pain on my left hand side. I wasn't able to make my appointment due to my train being cancelled (I live an hour away from the EAPU and only have hourly trains). I phoned them and apologised and they were absolutely fine and told me they have no scans later but I really need to be seen. They were worried about ectopic and miscarriage as I have had 2 before. They advised I call 111 who can book me an appointment. 111 told me to attend my closet hospital which is 40 mins away. I did just this and explained the issue to their primary care unit. They said no worries, I'll book you in and we will get a scan sorted. 4 hours of waiting later, I saw the doc and he said 'so you've just come here to get a scan? That's it?' . He then proceeded to call the unit which does the scans and told them that I 'didn't bother turning up for my appointment' at which point I heard them on the other line say 'well she didn't need it that badly then did she'. So here I am, after 2 miscarriages, terrified, feeling small, feeling guilty for missing my train Ben though it was out of my hands, with no advice, no scan booked, EAPU telling me to go back to doctors. AIBU to think that I deserve better than this?

Could you book a private scan? They are usually between £40 and £60 and can fit you in on the day or next day. I had an obstetrician do mine who knew more about a condition that effects my pregnancy than any doc or midwife I've seen so far! I got a video of our little one and loads of pictures.

ArizonaLeone · 19/03/2018 15:57

Thank you @Mrsemcgregor - things like this always have bad timing don't they.

@babydreamer1 it might be a bit late in the day to book an early scan for today now but may be able to book for Thursday and just hope nothing untoward happens in the mean time. Definitely a good idea. Thank you.

OP - they've treated you abysmally.

But as others have said, I'd raise a complaint as soon as you know BOTH OF YOU are okay.

I second booking a private scan. However, just so you're prepared, a lot of the places that offer gender/early scans will not discuss any medical issues they identify. They'll refer you to your MW or hospital. But either way, you'd get answers.

Where about are you based? We may be able to recommend somewhere between us.

In the meantime, if the pain gets any worse get yourself to the hospital straight away. Even if it's just a little bit worse.

ArizonaLeone · 19/03/2018 16:23

Thank you @IHateYourCarpet - I'm in Staffordshire, near Heath Hayes. I can travel though!

GaryBaldyBiscuit · 19/03/2018 16:27

I hope you're ok OP, it might be worth checking if there is somewhere you can get a private scan on Tuesday/Wednesday in the town you're travelling to.

ArizonaLeone · 19/03/2018 16:28

Thank you @GaryBaldyBiscuit - I will do. I'm just very anxious and confused as to why they couldn't do the scan considering they were in agreement that it could be ectopic. Such is life I guess!

OneForTheRoadThen · 19/03/2018 16:31

Most a&e's will refer you back to the EPU in my experience and won't necessarily organise a scan.

I think you should complain to the EPU staff and stress about the risk of an ectopic and see if you can get a scan today Thanks

ArizonaLeone · 19/03/2018 16:34

@OneForTheRoadThen I'm all tried out. They close at 5pm. It's going to have to be a watch and wait. I'll update once I've got somewhere!

I think tbh OP, some people are just complete jobsworths.

There are a few offered in mothercare branches for £39. None are that close to you but may be an option? www.ultrasound-direct.com/mobile/babybond-with-mothercare

OneForTheRoadThen · 19/03/2018 16:51

I'd try A&e then, there must be something the hospital can do for you. When you're feeling better please do complain about that doctor x

cortex10 · 19/03/2018 16:57

Hi really sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing - hope all turns out ok

If it helps going forward - there is a free bus from Cannock Hospital to New Cross if you have an appointment booked www.royalwolverhampton.nhs.uk/contact-us/travel-to-new-cross-hospital/free-bus-service/

ArizonaLeone · 19/03/2018 16:58

@IHateYourCarpet everyone was lovely until I saw that last doc who completely dismissed me. Definitely going to complain. Trying to chill now. Thanks so much for your support

@OneForTheRoadThen I wonder what they do for women who come in in agony. Maybe I should've hammed it up a bit!

@cortex10 thank you. I didn't know that. Will keep in mind.

IHateYourCarpet · 20/03/2018 10:00

How're you feeling this morning OP?

ArizonaLeone · 20/03/2018 19:17

@IHateYourCarpet I'm ok thanks. Spoke to EPAU who are furious at the hospital. Booked me in for scan tomorrow... fingers and toes crossed! Thanks for asking x

OP posts:
GaryBaldyBiscuit · 20/03/2018 19:46

Hope it all goes well tomorrow Flowers

ArizonaLeone · 20/03/2018 22:26

Hi @GaryBaldyBiscuit - I'm a nervous wreck, I could cry! So hoping my peanut is ok. Thank you

GaryBaldyBiscuit · 20/03/2018 22:41

I've got everything crossed for you, try and get some sleep (easier said than done I know) x

ArizonaLeone · 20/03/2018 22:43

@GaryBaldyBiscuit thank you. I'm a night owl so never in bed before 12, but that's normal for me! My lovely boss has given me the day off tomorrow and has banned me from the office until Thursday, regardless of the scan result! Will be sure to update, either way.

Thank you everyone for being so kind.

Thanks @IHateYourCarpet - scan in 2 hours. Absolutely bricking it!
