To think Kayleigh is actually a bloody good song?

Watching old TOTP from the 80s and I've now realised that Kayleigh is a rollicking good song, after having dismissed it as crap for most of my life. Even more disconcerting - I also thought Fish looked rather fine in a kilt, even if his hair was a bit shite.

Johns, yes he does!

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2018 19:34

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits, what a bizarre thing to post.

Chameleon22 · 18/03/2018 19:48

Been to see fish a good few times with marillion and solo met him at least 15 times in the garage and kingtuts amongst others soo nice a guy

Yogagirl123 · 18/03/2018 19:52

I love Kayleigh too!

TolpuddleFarterOATB · 18/03/2018 19:55

Brilliant verses, terrible chorus.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 18/03/2018 20:52

It’s petty but what always irritates me about this is how he randomly changes the the way he sings Kayleigh right at the end. All the way through it’s KAYleigh then suddenly he bloody pronounces it kayLEIGH.

The real Kayleigh was called Kay Lee Something, so perhaps that’s why he sings it like that.

Janetizzy30 · 18/03/2018 20:59

My birth name is kayleigh, my birth mum lives that song 😊

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 18/03/2018 22:13

What's bizarre about my post? This thread invites opinions about Kayleigh and M*rillion so I gave mine. I am traumatised by all these lyrics.

MrsJackRackham · 18/03/2018 22:29

DP is not interested in music at all. A few years ago we were talking about weird nicknames.
DP: My dad's pal reckons he's a famous musician, ha! I've never heard of him, I take the piss out of him blah blah blah. Plus he's got a shite nickname so clearly he can't be that famous.
Me: what's his nickname then?
DP: Fish!!! Hahahaha!!
Me: Confused
Turns out DP has been slagging off poor Fish for years and looking like a right prick Grin

@MrsJack you do realise that 90% of posters on this thread will now be asking if you can get autographs don't you Grin

I went to a Jethro Tull concert (another favourite of mine) a few years ago in Edinburgh. To my delight I spotted Fish in the bar at the interval, and even better he got up on stage in the 2nd half to sing a couple of songs with Tull. I found my bliss!

MargotLovedTom1 · 19/03/2018 00:28

How is Fish a cunt? Confused

OP posts:
HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 19/03/2018 00:43

Because he wrote Kayleigh. And all the other horrific stuff quoted on here. This thread is evidence.

Willow2017 · 19/03/2018 00:46

Aww i loved Kayleigh and Assassin.
Got the 12" versions still in my vinyl collection 😀

And Fish is a properly down to earth decent guy. Friend of mine socialised with him often at Easter Road and other places😀

AltheaorDonna · 19/03/2018 01:08

I'm with Harold. Kayleigh is a horrific song, and all the lyrics posted here are awful! And Fish looked ridiculous with that mullet and kilt! And now the song is stuck in my head! Ahhhhhh!

angryburd · 19/03/2018 02:31

A school friend of mine (born in early 86, the rest of us 85) was named after that song, and had a framed copy of the single l.p. framed on her wall that a relative had given her when she was born.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 19/03/2018 22:45

Grin AltheaorDonna. There is just no need for any of it.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 19/03/2018 22:57

Never loved the song as such, but always was impressed how he sung it with so much feeling and expression!

StoatofDisarray · 19/03/2018 23:12

It's fucking dire! 😂

blackheartsgirl · 20/03/2018 23:23

I love kayleigh. I wanted to call one of my daughters kayleigh but the ex and do hate the name and the song :(

AhhhhThatsBass · 20/03/2018 23:29

I love it. And I once, not that long ago, had a lyrics fail as I googled “Moonwash College, Belsize Park”to see if it existed. Blush

Hate the name though.

SnoopyLover · 21/03/2018 06:59

I love it, but I prefer to listen to the whole of Misplaced Childhood in one go, though it doesn’t have to be in the dark like a pp said. I’ll try it though!

No ones mentioned Heart of Lothian - thats really stirring, and my favourite single of theirs.

I need to listen to Marillion today. My favourite trio are Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood, followed by the universally forgotton but adored by me, Clutching At Straws. Perfect.

I have a signed photo of the whole of Marillion (very proud!)

dotdotdotmustdash · 21/03/2018 19:02

Snoopylover

Love your choices and I also adore Heart of Lothian and Clutching at Straws.

Nice to meet another Fishhead.
