AIBU?

To think Kayleigh is actually a bloody good song?

Watching old TOTP from the 80s and I've now realised that Kayleigh is a rollicking good song, after having dismissed it as crap for most of my life. Even more disconcerting - I also thought Fish looked rather fine in a kilt, even if his hair was a bit shite.

Is it wrong to talk to myself even when there's no body else.
I'm just checking out that I'm not going under the water.
Thrown on the beach like a seal ready for slaughter.

One of my other faves. I have my elder brother to thank for my love of marillion. Although the record cover with half a face of the jester smiling always freaked me out....I was around 4 or 5 at the time.

the old top of the pops on bbc four from 84 or 85 are really funny - i can actually remember the first time i watched it or saw that video for the first time etc etc. the fashions crack me up, all that white and permed hair dos.
i remember most of the lyrics to the songs too and laugh at how silly they look miming away pretending to play their instruments with their mullet hair. It takes me back to happier times! the DJs were so arrogant too, didnt notice that at the time.

I was in the Smoke recently and walked past Belsize Park and loving on the floor was literally the first thing that popped into my head.

Ah Fish! The only man in a kilt I've ever fancied. Kayleigh is a classic and reminds me of my first holiday without my parents doing pretentious photography shit with my new SLR camera that I'd bought from Grattans catalogue. None of the photos turmed out because I hadn't loaded the film correctly but hey ho!

I live in the town that inspired the lyric 'Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square' line and when it was redone (the square not the song) we got the lyrics in bricks round the market square. Fish came to open it funny enough!

It's quite interesting to watch TOTP and realise some of the stuff you loved as a kid was really crap and some stuff you despised was actually quite decent.

I though Marillion were pitifully uncool as a teen. It's not a bad song though. I like the lyric.

Almost wishing I hadn't watched the programme because I. Can't. Stop. Singing. It.

All day.

Watched another TOTP earlier featuring the utter god that is 80s era Bryan Ferry (Slave To Love). How the frig could I ever have thought Fish was even slightly attractive?!

I was in the Smoke recently and walked past Belsize Park and loving on the floor was literally the first thing that popped into my head.

Every time I’m on the tube (a few times a year) it’s

“Drowning in the liquid seize on the Piccadilly line, rat race
Scuttling through the damp electric labyrinth”

....and away we go, the whole of Fugazi in my head.

Glad to see we have other Fish-heads on the forum. I’ve never been cool and I’m old enough not to care. Grin

Margot Hell yes, Bryan Ferry was hot!

Not a fan myself but I did win eight pints in a pub quiz tiebreaker for knowing what Fish's real name was.

I'm a 1988 Kayleigh. I have 2 sisters. Both have traditional family names that were chosen by my mother. My father got to name me.....

Memories. A suitor at Uni in the mid 90s. It was on the one and only mix tape I have ever had specially made for me. 😁

Great tune. Fascinating fact, the amount of baby girls called Kayleigh in 1985 and 1986 was something mad like 800% higher than the years before or after. I can attest to this as I was a girl in a girls school and my school year were born between 1st September 1985 and 31st August 1986. 22 Kayleighs in my year out of a year group of 250. That’s nearly 10%!!

My ex was a major Marillion fan (was 14yrs older than me) and I saw them in concert with the new line up many times. They never did Kayleigh. Bastards.

It’s petty but what always irritates me about this is how he randomly changes the the way he sings Kayleigh right at the end. All the way through it’s KAYleigh then suddenly he bloody pronounces it kayLEIGH.

Loved Marillion. I had a kitten named Kayleigh
