To have had enough of mermaids, unicorns and rainbows being everywhere!

That’s it really. I am fed up of them. They are cliched and annoying and used to sell (cheap tacky) products to gullible customers to fill their homes with more crap. I know I will get blasted by everyone saying it’s harmless fun but I am done with it. I just want to say no more! I could also add in owls, foxes/penguins and pugs for good measure.....

My ds LOVES unicorns and rainbows. He's 10. I don't mind it at all. I find it 'happy'

My friend who's pushing 50 started collecting everything Flamingo last year. I managed to buy her a beautiful natural illustration of a Flamingo on a tote shopping bag but since then it's gone nuts. She has Flamingo slippers, mugs, lamps, waterproof, inflatable Flamingo rubber rings that she takes on holiday and posts all over FB.

Now that's taking it too far.

pictish · 17/03/2018 08:57

I have to say though...
Unicorns are cool, always have been, always will be.
Mermaids are cool, always have been, always will be.
Rainbows are cool, always have been, always will be.

Fashions come and go but some things are eternally brilliant.

DollyLlama · 17/03/2018 08:57

Unicorns, pugs, pineapples, mermaids etc are doing my head in along with everything Beauty and the Beast and Harry Potter.

I'm am unsurprisingly loving the new llama trend Grin

FleurDelacoeur · 17/03/2018 08:59

Apparently llamas is The Thing fir this year.

I got a pair of llama pyjamas from my kids for mothers day. I am SUCH a trendsetter.

Belindabauer · 17/03/2018 09:00

It was butterflies a few years ago.

ShimmeringIce · 17/03/2018 09:00

I'm on board for fairies - Haribo fairies and dragons are THE BEST but not readily available (yet...mwahaha)

The problem with this stuff is that it's all you can buy for a while and then becomes uncool so quickly. My DDs are too young to care yet (I think) but I wouldn't be impressed if they suddenly wanted to replace their entire clothing collection/bedroom/desk accessories 🙁 And picking up things in advance for Xmas and birthdays / clothes a bit too big in the sales is a big risk!

Flamingoringo · 17/03/2018 09:00

I loved the shop Internationale! I had a giant pink Buddha from there.

ButteredScone · 17/03/2018 09:01

Y, y - stars and moons with faces and cherubs! I remember that. I also thought dolphins were a bit dicky when everyone was getting tattoos of them, etc.

I liked the owls and I liked the flamingos.

I predict dragons but in about 7/8yrs time. We’ll have a fish phase first.

dementedma · 17/03/2018 09:04

Badgers and hedgehogs!

AuContraireStarfishHair · 17/03/2018 09:05

And that awful Keep Calm and Carry On..

Can we expand this to flavours and drinks? Avocados wherever you look, salted caramel all over the place, ciders of all weird flavours..and now my beloved gin has been dragged into the limelight and trendified for mass approval. Hmph Hmm

Pickyricky · 17/03/2018 09:08

I am toting for turnips now for 2019 with Breakfast as it appears sloths are already ‘done’ Grin

Not sure I will get a job in marketing predicting cute cliched trends anytime soon

outabout · 17/03/2018 09:13

Rainbows were a 'thing' 40 years ago.

NeepNeepNeep · 17/03/2018 09:14

I'm feeling very nostalgic now lol.

pictish · 17/03/2018 09:14

It’s always a disappointment to realise that you’re not as unique and refined in your tastes as you imagined you were though. When something you like becomes the in thing and it’s suddenly apparent that you don’t need to be clever, quirky or imaginative to like your ‘thing’ and that it’s the predilection of any old punter, it can sting a bit.

pictish · 17/03/2018 09:17

Like when all those people who got black ‘tribal’ tattoos in the 90s realised Robbie Williams was sporting the very same. Ouch.

If Robbie Williams does it, it’s over.

NeepNeepNeep · 17/03/2018 09:20

There is a new Pokemon Go style Harry Potter game arriving this year which could be huge. Based on that I think mystical things like stars, moons, owls again, dragons, cats. Pumpkins?

metalmum15 · 17/03/2018 09:21

Ah Internacionale!! I loved that place back in the 90's! Got loads of blue and yellow sun and moon stuff in there!

WhoWants2Know · 17/03/2018 09:22

Narwhals are where it's really at.

Hoppinggreen · 17/03/2018 09:23

Many years ago it was pigs
I had a cute poster of a piglet asleep in a hammock - my brother pointed out it was probably dead

Hoppinggreen · 17/03/2018 09:24

Ooh yes, DD is into Narwhals - the unicorn of the seas

TerfsUp · 17/03/2018 09:24

YANBU. All that unicorn and rainbow and mermaid crap is twee and I loathe twee with every fibre of my being.

GrannyGrissle · 17/03/2018 09:25

These motifs aren't invading my life one bit. Maybe spend less time shopping OP and more piddling around on Mumsnet ? Are you purposely looking for them in order to get cross? Cupcakes can go and fuck themselves though
