DD has managed to find a sharpie and draw all over the sofa!! Any tips on how to remove? Will a boil wash get it out?

Alcohol perhaps like vodka or rubbing alcohol. Dampen satin then blot with dry cloth

GreenDiscovery · 16/03/2018 09:14

Thanks will give it a go! Definitely parenting fail of the day and it's only just gone nine!

Odd combination but baking soda mixed with a tiny bit of white wine to make a sort of foamy paste

RandomMess · 16/03/2018 09:16

No the only thing that works is ink remover used before anything else!!!

RandomMess · 16/03/2018 09:18

How much are new covers???

Dr Beckmann ink remover works BUT it's time consuming and a faff... I used it on pink school dresses with success though. Once washed nothing will remove it IME not even bleach seems to work.

steppemum · 16/03/2018 09:19

DO NOT wash it with washing powder.

Once you have done that it tends to set the stain, so treat and wash according to instructions first.

Sharpies are paermanent and not even hot water will remove, you need to disolve the pen in a specific cleaner. You could try dabbing it with nail varnish remover.

You don't say what fabirc it is - leather? cotton?

Don't worry about parenting fail. DD did this with a purple pen - walls, radiators, doors, bath, shower curtain, EVERYWHERE. It was a washable pen too. The hardest place to remove was the radiator, and it took us months, hard scrubbing 1 inch at a time until we finally got it off (unpainted radiators in rented place). I put 5 coats of paint on the wall, and could still see it through.

steppemum · 16/03/2018 09:21

I mean treat and wash according to the specialist cleaner instructions

Allthebestnamesareused · 16/03/2018 09:22

If all else fails - contents insurance - new sofa

sentenceinterrupted · 16/03/2018 09:22

My dd did this to our rented house sofas the other day (fabric) so I'm watching with interest! First time in 3 kids, so I've probably gotten off lightly

tigerrun · 16/03/2018 09:24

Nothing you can do will get it off and anything you do do will make it worse. Speaking from experience here - it is either professional cleaners (we got a quote for £50) or house insurance. Good luck!

GreenDiscovery · 16/03/2018 09:25

It probably doesn't look too bad in the picture!

Nothing will get sharpie out fabric.

They make damn good labelling pens for school uniform though. Better than those poxy laundry markers.

maskingtape · 16/03/2018 09:30

Turn the cushions over?

ZombieNation · 16/03/2018 09:30

No, that does look pretty bad, sorry, it's going to take some magic to get all that out.

MadisonAvenue · 16/03/2018 09:31

I was also going to suggest turning the cushions too.

Duckeggbluetin · 16/03/2018 09:32

When you bought the sofa did you pay for one of those damage warranty things? You might have one and have forgotten.

RandomMess · 16/03/2018 09:35

Yep turn the cushion overs - not worth the stress of trying and failing Thanks

HesterShaw · 16/03/2018 09:39

Oh my, she really went to town didn't she Shock

De-Solv-It gets everything off, in my experience. Granted I have never had a sharpie wielding toddler do her worst on my sofa.

WhatWouldOliviaPopeDo · 16/03/2018 09:40

Washing up liquid mixed equally in water with white wine vinegar. Gets stains out of anything and everything.

WhatWouldOliviaPopeDo · 16/03/2018 09:41

Although I've just properly looked at the picture and Shock. Maybe see about getting them professionally cleaned?

GreenDiscovery · 16/03/2018 09:46

Sod it. I'll wash them (DP's side stinks of his cheesy feet anyway Blush) and just turn them over Grin.

Lesson learnt haha!

JennyOnAPlate · 16/03/2018 09:46

I think you need to call a professional, sorry.

heymammy · 16/03/2018 09:46

Ooft that's pretty bad! I would just flip the cushions and pretend it never happened Wink

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 16/03/2018 09:49

I was labelling Dd's wellies for playgroup with a sharpie and left it for 1 second to grab the other welly. Dd thought she would help and has drawn a massive squiggle inside the welly. I'm going to try some of these ideas.
