Swimming

More of a WWUD but anyway.

DS4 has a swimming lesson after school. DSS9's Mum is ill so I'm grabbing him from school.

I usually use the ladies changing rooms but have seen outrage on here regarding male pre-teens in female changing rooms.

To be clear it will be children getting changed, communal changing rooms.

Do I take them both to the men's?

Is DSS swimming?

Thebig3 · 14/03/2018 09:26

I wouldn't go in the men's. I would go into the ladies

TheOrigBrave · 14/03/2018 09:28

Is the 9YO swimming?

Either way, I'd leave the 9 YO to sort himself out, either leaving him outside the changing room if he's not swimming or sending him to the mens' to get changed. 9 is plenty old enough to get changed for swimming independently.

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2018 09:30

Yes, I was thinking if the 9 year old wasn't swimming I would leave them in the cafe/seating area while you get the 4 year old changed. No need for them to go in the changing room.

RatOnnaStick · 14/03/2018 09:31

At 9 I would tell him to sit quietly outside by the pool viewing area and wait for you to get the 4yr old changed.

NerrSnerr · 14/03/2018 09:32

If swimming I'd send into the men's to get himself ready, if not swimming I would leave him in cafe/ seating area or send him through the men's to meet you at poolside (wherever you wait during the lessons)

kaytee87 · 14/03/2018 09:34

I'd send 9yo to get ready by himself and take 4yo in with you.

JigglyTuff · 14/03/2018 09:36

The 9YO, unless he has SN, can change on his own. If he isn't swimming, he can sit at the side of the pool, in the cafe or somewhere else. He doesn't need to come into the women's changing rooms at all.

SmashedMug · 14/03/2018 09:36

I'd take him in the ladies and all change in the corner or as tucked out if the way as possible if he is swimming.

JigglyTuff · 14/03/2018 09:40

Why take him in at all? He's nine. He is old enough to sit outside on his own for 10 minutes

BarbarianMum · 14/03/2018 09:42

Good God. No you can't go into the mens - the men/boys in there need privacy too. The 9 year old can get changed in the mens (no he can't go in the womens, he's too old) and you take the 4 year old to the womens.

What is wrong with people?

LouieLou2013 · 14/03/2018 10:54

9 year old boy swimming lesson is for 4 year old (DSS does lessons on a Sat)

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 14/03/2018 10:57

He waits outside and you use the ladies for the 4 year old. Only takes a few mins to change them a 9 year old will be fine outside the door.

Don't take him in he's to old

LouieLou2013 · 14/03/2018 10:58

9 year old is not swimming

OP posts:
DalekDalekDalek · 14/03/2018 11:00

Leave DSS in the cafe (if there is one) with a drink and a snack while you change the littlest one. Then sit with the eldest until the end of the lesson. It will make the eldest feel grown up to be trusted to sit in the cafe by himself with the snack as a treat.

LouieLou2013 · 14/03/2018 11:01

No cafe, it's a school swimming pool. Entrance to pool via changing rooms.

No adults will be changing

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 14/03/2018 11:03

Then he waits outside the entrance to changing rooms

upsideup · 14/03/2018 11:04

Of course the 4 year can go in with you, 9 year old isnt swimming so doesnt need to be in a changing room. If I take 3 year old dd to swimming lessons and 10 year old dd comes along, even though technically she would be accepted in the female changing rooms, why would she come in if she wasnt changing? She waits outside on her phone or goes to the cafea cafe.

soulrider · 14/03/2018 11:05

Where do you go whilst the swimming lessons are on? Presuming you don't wait in the female changing rooms then the 9 year waits wherever you will go after changing your 4 year old. If this involves going through the changing rooms then he just goes through the mens to get to that place.

Stickerrocks · 14/03/2018 11:06

Surely you just leave the 9 year old wherever everyone watching the lessons normally watches them from. If that means he needs to walk through the male changing rooms, so be it, he is hardly going to get molested or witness anything dodgy during an after school swimming lesson. I never understand the paranoia on MN about changing rooms and men's toilets.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2018 11:07

At 9 he will be fine to wait outside. Unless he has any SN that mean he can't be left unattended?

kaytee87 · 14/03/2018 11:08

Leave him in the sitting area then? He's 9, not 2.

NerrSnerr · 14/03/2018 11:08

Where do you watch swimming? If outside in a viewing area leave him there, if poolside then send him through men's to meet you there.

Origamoo · 14/03/2018 11:08

I agree that 9 is too old to go in the ladies with you but also you can’t be going in the men’s (assuming you’re female). If 9 year old is going to be watching from side of pool with you then he should walk through the men’s by himself to get to the pool and you change your DD in the ladies as normal.

Origamoo · 14/03/2018 11:09

Sorry no it’s your DS isn’t it but my answer is still the same.
