There is so much uncertainty surrounding what will happen with trade deals and goodness knows what else, that I’m starting to wonder about making some sensible plans.

We have put a stop to some planned works we wanted to do to our house, we have downsized to one car and we grow a small amount of veg. We keep some stocks of food in the house but we have a large family so I never feel like we’d have enough.
We have discussed not taking a holiday this summer and DH is taking every training course possible at work in order to diversify his skills should his industry go tits up.

I’m wondering what decisions you’re making in your homes for what could possibly be a really uncertain time for a few years.

We’ll see I think anyone is better Corbyn the man is a tool shed short of a few tools

Mookatron · 13/03/2018 17:29

Yes a grand tour while we easily can. There was war in Europe in living memory. Don't be so cavalier about freedom of movement.

KennDodd · 13/03/2018 17:30

Actually one thing you could all be doing if worried about this, if losing your job or business (like me) is write to your MP. And keep writing, let them know what a complete and utter fuck up this is voted for by (mostly) a bunch of racists.

Movablefeast · 13/03/2018 17:30

We live in the US. Our kids have US and UK passports. One of my kids is very interested in studying and moving to the UK but because she can speak German I am encouraging her to look very seriously at studying in Germany (free or extremely cheap even for international students) as the economy is so much better and the UK looks like it could end up as a low wage economy on the edge of Europe.

We lived in Germany for six years so we are familiar with the culture and way of life.

SpringMayHaveSprung · 13/03/2018 17:31

I'd not be surprised with there being some issues at ports.

My cupboards will be full. Same as in the winter months when we sometimes can't get out too easily.

Motoko · 13/03/2018 17:31

That was in reply to OP saying this:

We haven’t cancelled one, we hadn’t booked a holiday yet.

I forgot to copy that in.

Motoko · 13/03/2018 17:32

Oh christ, this thread is moving fast!

MillyChantilly · 13/03/2018 17:32

I have no faith in Corbyn but that doesn't make the shower of shite that is the current government any better. They could not be doing a worse job than they currently are.

lakeshoreliving · 13/03/2018 17:34

I have to agree with Milly no time for Corbyn.
That however has nothing to do with the government being a total shambles.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 13/03/2018 17:35

I have literally no faith in either main party to do a decent job governing this country. Another excellent reason to prepare, Brexit or not.

KennDodd · 13/03/2018 17:36

So seven pages and not one poster preparing for wage rises, cheaper food and consumer goods, continued peace in Ireland and a great big love in as everybody celebrates how great Brexit is. Even most Leave votes I know have admitted it'll be shit, somehow they still want it though.

NameChanger22 · 13/03/2018 17:37

Most of West London have an underground bunker aka luxury basement. I'm thinking of just turning up there with my tins of beans and toilet roll. Someone might take us in.

MillyChantilly · 13/03/2018 17:38

Even most Leave votes I know have admitted it'll be shit, somehow they still want it though.

It's become an ideology. Sense and reason are long since gone.

lovebipolar · 13/03/2018 17:39

Why cancel holiday plans? I'd have the holiday just incase you can't if finances become tighter

vandrew4 · 13/03/2018 17:39

i don't think it'll be shit, and neither do the majority of leave voters that i know. That's why we voted leave

LondonMum8 · 13/03/2018 17:40

YANBU, sadly.

IllustriouslyIllogical · 13/03/2018 17:43

I'm practising my smug face for when nothing at all changes, although I'm hoping that house prices crash massively as my kids will then be able to afford their own places.

I won't get too hopeful about reclaiming my bathroom though.....

IllustriouslyIllogical · 13/03/2018 17:45

Exactly, although that isn't a popular view on Mumsnet "By Parents for Worriers"............

MillyChantilly · 13/03/2018 17:46

although I'm hoping that house prices crash massively as my kids will then be able to afford their own places.

Cool. Because housing crashes occur in a vacum don't they? And aren't accompanied by general financial disaster all round.

Dragongirl10 · 13/03/2018 17:46

Nothing different, l honestly cannot see the reasons for the panic.

LondonMum8 · 13/03/2018 17:47

@IllustriouslyIllogical

I'm practising my smug face for when nothing at all changes

My educated guess is you've got nothing left to practice there. Might want to use the time to study basic economics to get a better idea of likely effects of a massive house prices crash.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 13/03/2018 17:48

I'll also be feeling pretty smug if it's all fine because we'll have taken steps to improve our life or mitigate the circumstances we find ourselves in. The Government's own reports don't seem to share your optimism though, sadly.

TheNaze73 · 13/03/2018 17:50

Will be transferring investments out of the Uk into American, Asian & a few emerging markets.

I personally think we are fucked

CadyHeron · 13/03/2018 17:56

i don't think it'll be shit, and neither do the majority of leave voters that i know. That's why we voted leave

I can't be doing with all the mass panic/stockpiling/all going to be trapped in Britain hysteria either and I voted Remain.
It's ridiculous.

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 13/03/2018 17:57

The word easily is relevant here.

It's really not relevant here. Speaking as someone outside Europe...
