To think new irn bru advert is in poor taste

Am I the only one to think the latest Irn Bru advert is in very poor taste, they say it's humour, REALLY ? I have visions of children in playgrounds all shouting 'can't ' and thinking it funny because they know exactly what they mean

OP posts:

@Stillonthatbloodycomputer have you seen the other irn bru adverts? This one is tame in comparison. You would probably like the one where the girl brings her English bf home to her Dad in Scotland

MrsJayy · 13/03/2018 08:40

I much prefer your granny was a Fanny much funnier the new one is a bit to near the knuckle

PlowerOfScotland · 13/03/2018 08:42

I'd defend them, but they took the sugar out.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 13/03/2018 08:49

I like that ad, it made me laugh!

But Irn Bru took the sugar out so I can’t defend them...despite the fact I drink maybe a can a year

I have 24 cans in the cellar and I’m waiting for the new recipe one to take over then I’m going to sell them on eBay and make my fortune HmmGrin

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 13/03/2018 08:53

That fiery advert (which is ace!) has just reminded me that DB has never forgiven them for taking away the fiery irn bru! He’s still holding a grudge...

speakout · 13/03/2018 09:22

Scotch?? 😂😂
And you think we have limited intelligence? 😂

Wink
FannyFifer · 13/03/2018 09:29

One of my favs. 😂😂

And this. So many funny ones.

IrnBruTortie · 13/03/2018 09:41

Well, I like it! (although you could have guessed from the user name)
Thanks for the links to the ads Fanny .
I agree with PPs - very Scottish sense of humour.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 13/03/2018 09:43

I loved the ‘fanny’ advert, I showed it to my non- British husband to show him Scottish humour.

UnicornRainbowColours · 13/03/2018 09:43

@shrodingerstwat like I care what someone with twat in their username thinks of me...Hmm

mintich · 13/03/2018 09:45

Oops @speakout the sarcasm was obviously too subtle for me! 😂

WhoUpsetTheEquilibrium · 13/03/2018 09:47

I love it!

speakout · 13/03/2018 09:52

mintich

Sorry.

LagunaBubbles · 13/03/2018 10:32

My first deletion on a thread about a fiizy drink! I referenced your post Speakout, thats all. I think your sarcasm was too subtle for me to! Grin

ParanoidGynodroid · 13/03/2018 11:19

Anyone else wasted 15 minutes or so watching Irn Bru adverts on YouTube?

Anyway, I think YABU OP. I doubt children in playgrounds will be shouting "can't" because of this. And if they did... so flipping what?

sirlee66 · 13/03/2018 12:14

Finally saw the advert on the old youtube! I liked it! Honestly don't think kids will take any notice.

If only irn bru tasted like it did back when I was young!!

downthestrada · 13/03/2018 13:53

I didn't find this one as funny as the others. Usually I really like Irn Bru adverts. I drink it too on occasion and I'm definitely not a chav or ned. But, the advert is fine, I can't see why people are taking offense. I don't even think most younger children would notice.

My MIL calls everyone a silly cunt, funny cunt, cheeky cunt. It's just her way and the way of a lot of others around here. I think people in Scotland aren't so offended by that word.

UnicornRainbowColours · 13/03/2018 14:24

@downthestrada that’s vile, I hate that word.

Poshjock · 13/03/2018 14:26

Well for a start Irn Bru shamelessly stole it from Chewin' The Fat.

I miss fiery Irn Bru. The advert was hilarious.

There are no chavs in Scotland. We have neds and in the east we have gadgies.

Cunt is no where near as offensive in Scotland as it is elsewhere, it can be an insult but mostly it is a term or endearment and sometimes even a compliment.

Never call a scottish woman a cow, that is a very bad thing (akin to calling her a slut).

ah the nuances of language and dialect. :)

downthestrada · 13/03/2018 14:31

unicorn it doesn't have the same strength here though, it's used as a term of endearment by some. Although I understand that others may hate it, especially if they are not from Scotland.

I don't personally use the word. But, I struggle to get annoyed at my MIL when she uses it, especially if she's trying to be nice!

I don't know what's right. Should we try and stop people from using the word, even if they grew up using it like my MIL? Is it similar to the p word or n word? I'm happy to be corrected on this.

downthestrada · 13/03/2018 14:34

Poshjock yes, that's what I think about the word. Tbh I have mainly heard it used as a term of endearment.

IllustriouslyIllogical · 13/03/2018 14:35

Well,

I'd not heard of it or seen it until this thread.

Made me chuckle TBH!

The irony (bru) is that you (and all the other "professionally offended") actually help these companies out when you complain about an ad as people then actively seek it out to watch.....

Puremince · 13/03/2018 14:43

Someone is offended by an Irn Bru advert.
And in other breaking news, the Pope is a Catholic and bears shit in the woods.

Hardwickwhite · 13/03/2018 14:51

I am more offended by the people suggesting that Scots poor health is relevant here, than the actual adverts, which I think are very funny.
