DC 2 and a half years apart.....I’ve had them ‘back to back’?!

Panandthegang · 11/03/2018 23:43

Just that really...I’ve just announced I am 12 weeks with dc2. Ds1 will be 29 months when it’s born so almost a 2 and a half year gap...

I’ve had not one, not two, but three separate people make comments along the lines of ‘wow you’re brave to have them so close’, ‘so you’re having children back to back’, ‘you didn’t waste time did you’ etc etc...

I was not expecting that opinion at all. I thought it was quite an average age gap?

To be clear, I don’t care about their judgments, just genuinely interested as to whether MN considers this to be having children back to back or not?

I'd say that was pretty normal to be honest! But then again I'm going to be having an 18 month age gap Grin yikes!

Congratulations!

halfwitpicker · 11/03/2018 23:46

I thought back to back was more '2 under 2'?

Congratulations anyway!

Fruitcorner123 · 11/03/2018 23:46

Weird responses . I would say that's a pretty average gap. I have DC aged 7 and 5 and lots of the parents have 2 DC in the same year groups as mine so somewhere between 3 and 2 yrs gap. Just ignore. Everyone feels they have to make a comment especially if you do things differently to the way they did it/are planning to do it.

Itsbecauseimaleo · 11/03/2018 23:46

Not at all. That's a normal age gap to me and similar to the gap between me and my siblings. I think people say stuff just for the sake of it. Ignore them and congratulations Smile

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 11/03/2018 23:47

Back to back is a stupid phrase in my opinion. I think most people I know have aimed for three years apart which I think is a recent trend due to free nursery hours.

I'm pregnant with my second and there will be 22 months between them. We've also had a lot of 'wow, your brave' comments and 'you didn't hang around'.

WorraLiberty · 11/03/2018 23:47

That's quite a weird reaction

Almost every parent I know has a two year age gap between kids, whereas I have a 7.5 year age gap and then a 3.5 year age gap between my 3.

PinkHeart5914 · 11/03/2018 23:47

My oldest 2 are 11 months apart and I’ve now got 3 under 3! Wouldn’t have it any other way Smile

I’d say your age gap was pretty common tbh certainly not unusual

Fruitcorner123 · 11/03/2018 23:48

Just a technicality but i suppose its between 3 and 1 year gap depending on months of birth (Not really relevant!)

SillyBub · 11/03/2018 23:49

Exactly the same gap as between my two. No-one ever said that to me!

SimplySwimming · 11/03/2018 23:51

I have a 10 and nearly 8 year old. 2 years is probably one of the most common gaps IME and certainly not back to back.

Imbluedabadee · 12/03/2018 00:09

I have the same age gap between my 2 and no one has ever said that to me.

Panandthegang · 12/03/2018 00:10

@festivecheeseandcrackers glad it’s not just me that knows these people! congrats!

Thanks for the congrats Grin

I'd call it a pretty normal age gap. I work in a primary school and run Rainbows and I can think of loads of families with a similar age gap.

Longdistance · 12/03/2018 00:15

Mine are 21 months apart. They are one school year apart. Best decision ever, as they’re friends ❤️

Choccywoccyhooha · 12/03/2018 01:53

Weird. My eldest two are 11 months apart. That is back-to-back. 2.5 years seems like an average gap to me.

TheLastMermaid · 12/03/2018 02:04

Yes, what they said ^

I had three in 27 months. That's more gasp-worthy. Ignore them. They're probably trying to find something to say and haven't progressed beyond clichés.

SuperBeagle · 12/03/2018 02:19

2-3 years is average among people I know.

I have 18 months between DCs 1 and 2, and then 20 months between DCs 3 and 4 (4 years between 2 and 3, though). I love the small gap. I have had comments about the closeness of the gap between each "set", but I wouldn't expect someone with a 2-3 year gap to get those comments.

LeighaJ · 12/03/2018 05:54

2.5 years sounds normal to me.

Marriedwithchildren5 · 12/03/2018 06:48

29 months? Maybe you need to stop using months to describe your childs age as may be some people are misunderstanding and not that quick on the maths? Not reason I can think they're saying that.

Congratulations though. Grin

Chienrouge · 12/03/2018 06:53

19 months between mine! 2.5 years seems pretty normal to me.

TheIrregularChoice · 12/03/2018 07:06

2 years and 4 months between my two, and I do feel like I had the second quite quickly after the first. I was pregnant and/or breastfeeding for four years straight! But it also took over two years (and two miscarriages) TTC with DD1, whereas DD2 was a bit of a surprise!

Oysterbabe · 12/03/2018 07:13

Almost exactly 2 years between my 2 and I think it's pretty normal.

Nomad86 · 12/03/2018 07:14

2.5 years is normal. My cousins were born a year apart, now that's back to back!

userabcname · 12/03/2018 07:24

Oh yes that seems like an average age gap to me. My family were always considered odd for having big gaps - my cousins are 7 years apart and my brother is 11 years younger than me. Just ignore silly comments and congratulations on your pregnancy!
