Shamelessly posting here for traffic.

I'm 41 and hugely overweight. I need to loose 6-7 stone and I'm desperate to get my life back and be healthy again.

I've joined slimming world about 40,000 times and do great for about 2 weeks then self sabotage and gain what I've lost then some.

I've done Cambridge, WW the lot, nothing has worked.

It's because I can't stop self sabotaging. I'll shove crap food and wine into my fat face knowing it's the wrong thing to do. The voice in my head is telling my this is bad, stop now, this is dangerous etc but yet I still scoff.

I'm literally digging my own grave with my knife and fork

I want some stories if you've been in a similar situ, how did you turn around? How did you beat your daemon and make a success of it?

If you are going back to slimming world I recommend YouTube slimming world accounts

Debster
Trimwithtan
Katyjayne

All lost the amount you need to lose

Oh thank you all so much, you are amazing!
I've started today and feel very positive.
I've created a file in my photos called my weight loss journey and this morning stood on the scales and took a picture of them. I also took pics of myself in my undies front and side on in the mirror. I'll do this every Monday now, so I have visuals.
Small goals
One meal at a time
Thanks again, you have been inspirational

Sounds like a really positive start! Just don't lose heart if the pics don't immediately start showing results. I've decided today (whilst thinking about you!) that I'm going to put £1 aside for every 1lb I lose and then treat myself to a pedicure, which I really love, to celebrate with my "savings" when I've lost/saved enough. Good luck OP.

cantstopfuckingeating · 12/03/2018 19:54

@Tiredtomybones what a great idea!!
Let's revisit this thread every Monday evening for an update?
Who else is up for it?
Friendly support and a bit of banter?!

Have you tried a low carb approach? One of the reasons it works is that protein is not easily stored by the body therefore you very quickly get messages that you are full and your appetite gets supressed so you don't feel hungry all the time. I did it a few years back and would forget to eat and i am normally a very greedy person. I've put weight back on (surprise surprise) and have started low carb again this week for a quick fix prior to holiday in April. Good luck which ever way you go.

Tiredtomybones · 12/03/2018 21:16

I'm in for a Monday night catch up.

I'm feeling pleased with myself - I've just had an orange for my pudding. DH had a cake. Go me!

cantstopfuckingeating · 12/03/2018 21:40

@saltandvinegarcrisps1 no I'm gonna stick to SW. Would find no carbs too restrictive but thank you for the suggestion

@Tiredtomybones Monday night date it is! Good luck x

Regarding no carbs - i tried and failed miserably trying to completely exclude carbs from my diet BUT I found alternatives. Bread is the biggest problem but counting up bread potatoes pasta etc that I was eating every day? No wonder i couldn't drop the weight. Have a look in your grocery store for lower carb bread. Most brands have it. I replaced pasta with konjac noodles, once you put your sauce on theres a slightly different texture but no different taste and they are made from veggies. I can have my carbonara and eat it too! And if you can i replaced sandwiches with mountain bread wraps. Ok so its still carbs but a lot less than 2 slices of bread. Congratulations on making a positive start!

I'm over weight and at the end of the year my fasting blood sugar was 12. On the day I got the results I realised that it's my own fault and I need to change. My blood sugar is now perfect, and I've lost 10 pounds. I walked 4 miles the other day and didn't need a rest because I couldn't breath. If I don't keep it up I will end up being diabetic. Do it for you.

Raven88 · 13/03/2018 01:21

@cantstopfuckingeating

You need to learn to value yourself and you need to start looking after yourself as if it's someone you love. For me getting healthy and staying healthy only works if you see yourself as worth it. It's not about how much you lose. That should be secondary to how you feel. As my previous post said I'm over weight too. Don't beat yourself up about it.

purplehaze24 · 13/03/2018 07:38

I'm embarking on a ten stone weight loss journey. Using SW at the moment but plan to move to MFP further along as friends have said it's easier to see the benefits of moving more. The turning point for me was a statistic that showed the increased risk of obesity for kids of obese parents. I don't want my kids to feel the way I did as a child at swimming and sports day and so many more. Pm if you want we can support each other. X

Hortonlovesahoo · 13/03/2018 07:40

Another one to suggest “fitnaturally” (fitnaturally.co.uk). It’s supportive, wholesome good food and it works! It’s helped me with long term weight loss too

AnotherOriginalUsername · 13/03/2018 07:51

As someone who has been there, done it (-11st) and still doing it (5st to go!), the biggest bit of advice I can give is that if it all goes tits up and you end up going off plan, the most important thing is to get back on it as soon as possible (ie the next day, if not the next meal). One day off plan will not undo a good week, it's our mindset that does that.

I'm glad you've decided to stick with SW, whatever you do needs to be sustainable long term.

Other than that, my advice would be to prep like a demon (I don't have children but work long hours and am often out the house before 7am and not back until 8pm). A slow cooker and batch cooking are your friends. I spend a couple of hours on a Sunday evening cooking various meals for the freezer. 2 hours this weekend made a total of 20 portions of Bolognese, chilli, curry, cottage pie and sweet and sour chicken. I do different things each weekend and soon end up with a good variety of meals that just need taking out of the freezer that morning. I do the same with the slow cooker - stick it on in the morning, it's ready when I'm home and there's excess portions left for freezing.

Do you do any exercise at all? I've found that that's the biggest benefit to my overall well-being and how I feel

Hippywannabe · 13/03/2018 08:04

Just had a quick look on Netflix to check the first recommended film was there, it is along with many similar. I had no idea there was anything like that on there. I am off sick today so will watch some. I do find watching a film that really brings home the effect of what I do to myself by overeating can keep me going on the right path for a while longer.
Hope you also feelminspired, OP.

Allthecoolkids · 13/03/2018 08:11

Probably unpopular but things like SW don’t work for me because I can’t continue to eat unlimited carbs and sugary treats. Because they trigger me to binge.

I find counting calories and keeping them lowish sugar and carb SO much easier mentally. If it’s not in the house I can’t eat it. I will buy my kids single serve treats and once they’re gone they’re gone.

Hippywannabe · 13/03/2018 10:29

OP watch Hungry for change on Netflix. It is a real eye opener

Will do that @Hippywannabe
@GoldenOrb it's def stress... same with wine. Stressful day? Have some wine. Kids doing your head in? Have some wine. Friday night? Have some wine.
Along with the wine cones crisps, cheese, nuts etc and a fry the next day to kill the hangover.
I need to stop drinking wine!!! Haven't had any for 2 weeks and not missing it one bit.

If you've had 2 weeks off the wine that is a really good start.

If part of the problem is using food as a treat then you might find it helped if you had a list of non-food treats then if you felt you deserved a treat you could select one of those instead. When I had PND a friend gave me a small bag with little cards in - it was my "crap day bag" and when I had a bad day I took out a card and had the treat on it. They were little things like buy a magazine/nail polish or a bunch of flowers, have a bath with nice bath oil in, paint my toe nails a pretty colour etc.

It might be useful to read the recent thread on why we are all getting bigger whilst knowing more about food. Lots of self righteous people saying eat less and move more but also some very insightful comments on the use of food as a reward/portion control etc.

cantstopfuckingeating · 13/03/2018 11:59

@GoldenOrb what @londonmummy1966 said! Having a bath and watching a movie at night. Having 'early nights' 😉 with DH will always put a spring in our steps and now with the bright nights coming in we can go walking. I live in the countryside there really is no excuse

Watch Forks over Knives. I found it really eye opening and see crap food for what is now.

Cockmagic · 13/03/2018 12:23

No advice op but I'm with you.

Had my photo took mother's day, I'm 28 I looked years older with massive tummy rolls and big chubby cheeks. My eyes look small cos my face is that fat.

I darent weigh myself, probably about 17 stone now.

Going on holiday in august I need to lose some by then.

Yesterday I ate like a pig, including an Easter egg and 5 chocolate bars, and that was before a Chinese takeaway .

Maybe we could chat on here with progress?

cantstopfuckingeating · 13/03/2018 13:29

@Cockmagic me and @Tiredtomybones are going to come here every Monday to report progress... please join us!
I started yesterday and took a photo of the scales and pics of me in the mirror with just my undies on. I'm slightly over 17 stone. I'm broad boned and my healthy weight is about 11.5 stone and size 12. I'm really longing for that again. I'm going away to Spain in June and I know it's not far away and time is short but I'm gonna try my hardest. I could easily have 2/3 stone off by then.
@GoldenOrb I just say that because I always make excuses... too busy, too much to do. Actually the dishes or whatever can wait. I'm potentially adding time to my life by doing this.
