I ordered some flowers for my mum to be delivered today. I have got an email at 4pm saying they will be unable to deliver, have cancelled my order and given me £10 goodwill Angry
AIBU that they shouldn’t have been taken by surprise it Mother’s Day?

I don't doubt all the money will be refunded. The £10 is a goodwill gesture over and above. Not good enough, but I suppose better than nothing.

My parents have a decent florist about a quarter of a mile from their house. She knows my parents and when I ring up to order flowers for my mum we have a nice chat. Never been let down yet. We're lucky to have this option, especially as they're on an island and getting anyone else to deliver is hit and miss.

We also have a florist nearby. My children, now adults, have been going there together on Mother's Day for about 15 years to choose me a bouquet. Rermarkably, the florist recognises them and thanks them every year for their continued custom. Grin Lovely flowers too.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 11/03/2018 17:57

This happened to an order I had placed for my Grandmas 90th birthday a few years back now. I have never used M&S for flower delivery since.

starzig · 11/03/2018 18:00

Means you can get her a better bunch of flowers another time and it will be all the more appreciated as it was not prompted a being mothers day. I would be happier with that than something just because it's mothers day.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/03/2018 18:01

That's crap. They should deliver and refund the whole cost.

AssumethePerpendicular · 11/03/2018 18:03

They have refunded the money and given £10 goodwill but it’s not about money. I’m going to look for a local florist tomorrow who can deliver later in the week.
Expected more from M&S!

That's shit. I guess they underestimated demand.

Last night ocado turned up at my door to inform me they had not loaded my order on the van. No shit. The whole order missing. Driver had just noticed.

I also booked a Hermes collection of some trousers I ordered from ASOS and needed to return, due to be collected yesterday. They didn't turn up. I went on Chat to them today. Here is the shit response I got.

Me. Hi, I booked a collection for my return yesterday, Hermes confirmed and sent me label and didn't turn up, can you help?

Asos, hi, you're speaking to x, I'm sorry about this, happy to help, let me investigate.

A couple of mins later.

Asos x, I can see no attempt was made to collect this.

Me yes I know, that's why I'm chatting to you, can you help.

Asos. No that's for you to sort out with Hermes.

I fucking kid you not.

No goodwill from either party.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/03/2018 18:06

Oh ok OP. Still shit though. Today of all days.

liquidrevolution · 11/03/2018 18:09

I ordered my flowers from bloom and wild to be delivered on Friday. I figured that way if anything went wrong it gave me Saturday to sort. DMum had a nice surprise!

nancy75 · 11/03/2018 18:09

I hate the way big companies have forced small businesses out & now we have no choice but to use them they just offer crap service. £10 doesn’t make up for your mum not getting her flowers today.

TooManyPaws · 11/03/2018 18:15

That's totally shit service.

I must admit that I'm very lucky to have a florist in my parents' village I use; they will even take the flowers up to the grave now as I live too far away. I tend to look for a local florist first for anyone before the nationals because I've heard too many bad stories, particularly about Interflora.

squarecorners · 11/03/2018 18:24

I had curry's the other day cancel my delivery of a new dishwasher by text 8 minutes before their call centre closed nearly 3 hours after the close of the regular business day, and reschedule it without any consultation to tuesday. I work from home so I'd rearranged my schedule to make sure I was in, and I had shit to do on the tuesday so I cancelled my order and went to AO instead. I imagine if I'd taken the day off to be in I would not have been compensated for that bullshit. I'm fully expecting curry's to be next in the going bust lineup and they deserve it to be fair.

YorkshireBee · 11/03/2018 18:28

I’ve also had trouble with M&S flowers. Yodel (delivery company) said they’d been delivered yesterday but mum hasn’t got them. Contacted M&S this morning who said they’d look into it - no response yet. Contacted Yodel who just kept repeating that the flowers had been delivered to my mum’s address, no matter how many times I said they hadn’t. Now they’re not responding either. So I’m £30 down and mum has no Mother’s Day present. Bloody fuming, but not sure what else I can do!

viques · 11/03/2018 18:28

that's a real shame, they kept changing the time of my delivery from m and s but they arrived late afternoon, and are lovely. daffodils and tulips ,my favourite flowers. I hope OP gets a full refund, I imagine it is a case of extreme pressure on the system.

alligatortoss · 11/03/2018 18:29

My mums flowers from M&S arrived but they were all closed. Hopefully they will be pretty when they finally open.

Yep the EXACT same thing happened to me. They looked shit compared to the photo online and I was embarrassed if I’m honest.

alligatortoss · 11/03/2018 18:31

I'm fully expecting curry's to be next in the going bust lineup and they deserve it to be fair.

My dad stayed in at mine to wait in for my fridge freezer order. They delivered it and left it in its packaging. They confirmed this should not have happened but didn’t bother to rectify it.

inmyheadimthequeen · 11/03/2018 18:33

I've stopped using M&S after being disappointed in their delivery schedule before. I've tried Serenata and Flying Flowers with average results so this year tried Tesco - looked nice on the website. Arranged for Saturday delivery, Mum is recovering from an op so I knew she would be in. Rang today to find that there had been no delivery despite me getting a text and two emails confirming delivery. Dad found the flower box in the garden (they hadn't been out) but it had rained so hard the cardboard collapsed into mush when he picked it up. Flowers were nice apparently but what would have happened if I hadn't rung - very poor and have complained. Sorry for your mum's experience OP, M&S should be ashamed of that. Flowers Flowers for you and your mum

Bluelady · 11/03/2018 18:35

I'd be really happy if flowers arrived closed, they'll last a lot longer.

Aaaaargh, those fucking rabbits!

DevonLodger · 11/03/2018 18:35

I also ordered flowers and chocolates for my mum from M&S. They were massively promoting it over emails and social media last week. Couldn't visit her because I had to travel to a funeral. I was advised by the delivery company that they would be delivered at 11am. They eventually turned up at 2.30pm - much too late as a Mother's Day gift in my view (but at least she got them). I called customer service and they treated me in a condescending and patronising way. Awful. My husband who is away ordered flowers from inter flora which turned up at 9.30am. I'll stick with the high street from now on. Sorry about your experience.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 11/03/2018 18:35

My Mum’s flowers from M&S arrived today fine. Really glad I have dodged the bullet, I chose them specifically because of reliability after a fiasco with Moonpig last year.

Moonpig didn’t deliver, didn’t contact to say there would be problems and only refunded after a lot of chasing with no goodwill. And the flowers never did come.

alligatortoss · 11/03/2018 18:37

Omg look at their twitter, the state of some of the flowers people have received is shocking.

noshitsherloc · 11/03/2018 18:42

Ordered a canvas through TouchNote, dispatched on Wednesday and 'guaranteed' delivery by Saturday. Phoned my mum this morning, not there. So angry!! Going to kick up a stink tomorrow. Angry

Shadow666 · 11/03/2018 18:58

This is what my mum got. Blush

It's a bit crap really but hopefully will be stunning in time for Easter!

AIBU to be pissed off with marks and Spencer’s?
TroubledLichen · 11/03/2018 19:12

Had a shit experience in store yesterday. Flowers all looked half dead so opted to get DM some fizz instead. Had to use the self scan as no checkouts open and the assistant actually told me off, really rather aggressively for scanning my shopping in the wrong order; I’d left the fizz until last as she was no where to be seen. Then she failed to authorise the damn champagne and had to come back 3 times to get it to go through... M&S is no doubt dying a slow and painful death. Next time will walk the extra 50m to Waitrose.

Goldiehawnoverboard · 11/03/2018 19:17

I also ordered m&s flowers for my mum for delivery today. When I checked on the Yodel tracking info at lunchtime it said (I kid you not) “91 deliveries before yours “ Shock.. they live in a small rural village I was trying to calculate the probability of them delivering 91 parcels this week let alone today!

I knew they were home all day and as it was a surprise I had hoped she would receive them this morning. Anyway eventually at 3.45 a text to say Yodel had delivered to a “safe place”..... hmmm Confused safe place, I thought “that’s funny why in a safe place?”, called my mum (kind of ruined the surprise and delivery driver hadn’t rung the doorbell, must have just dumped on the doorstep and run. Not really surprising considering how many deliveries he/she must have had today!

I’m not sure of the quality and my mum’s too polite to say but it’s put me off doing it again as it wasn’t the experience I imagined for her.

Ikanon · 11/03/2018 19:36

I don't know if you live near my parents but I got some M&S flowers delivered to her house today and I was there. As the guy stopped liquid was pouring out of his engine underneath. Turns out the fuel line had come loose and it was diesel flowing all over the road (fortunately, although not for the sewer system it was almost right over a drain grate) He got it back in the engine with my dad's help but I'm not sure how far it would have been safe to drive it. This was about 1.45pm. If he had a van full of flowers then orders subsequent to that could have been screwed hence, perhaps, the late cancellation. Just adding a possiblilty as to why they weren't delivered today. It really was a major fuel spillage.
