To think SATC is a terrible representation of women?

I'm 34 now so probably should've watched this in my younger years but I was way too into Friends.

Ive started at the beginning and one season in and Carrie is absolutely awful! She basically has every red flag we say men have but in a woman. Possibly narcisstic and everything is all about her, how was she a role model in the 90's?!

Or is it just me and she's still an icon?

Also, to be fair, no one had really heard of any of the actors before SATC

Before SATC, SJP starred I'm a TV series as a teen, and had been in several movies: Hocus Pocus, First Wives Club, Honeymoon in Vegas, Footloose.

I still have a massive soft spot for it
Nostalgia for when I was a way less glamorous 20 30 something

I wish they would run it in Netflix

I tried to watch it once and thought it was a load of puerile nonsense. It did nothing for me.

My take on SATC is that each character aimed represent a bit of a woman’s personality or aspirations from time to time:
Treated like a princess/looked after - Charlotte
Successful in career - Miranda
Outspoken and true to herself - Samantha

Carrie represents the bits when we’re being our ‘less than ideal’ selves: insecure, selfish, shallow.

I did enjoy the programme and still do; Charlotte and Miranda had the best long term storylines, sadly by the films Samantha had been turned into a sad caricature. Carrie appears to have learned nothing Grin

Flawed in a number of ways & very much of its time, but, c'mon, it was only ever a bit of fun, had some great moments, at its best was well worth watching.

I would so vote for her
