To want a handwritten card?

Namechanged for this, just 'cause.

Got a mother's day card through the post yesterday and it's from a website with the message printed - I live with my DP and six month old son, and I know DS can't write the card himself anyway but this says to me that DP just couldn't be bothered to walk the ten minutes to town to pick a card out and write in it. Most of the time he will physically go get one but that just makes me feel even worse when I get one from a website because I know it's not "his thing" to get them online - it's just that in this instance and a few others he's thought "I could go to town or I could stay sat here on the sofa and order one online in two minutes".

Or am I just being ungrateful?

I send cards from Moonpig and Funky Pigeon and it takes me flippin AGES to find exactly the right card.

DialsMavis · 11/03/2018 09:21

I sent my mum one of those cards as she has complained about crap design of cards purchased in shops before. Didnt even think she won't like the words being printed.

Ive already had this morning (on phone). "Is it just the card or will there be flowers delivered? Let me know now if its just a card so i know not to be disapointed later" Grin

MealyPotatoes · 11/03/2018 09:22

It’s only a small thing and there are bigger things to worry about, but yeah, I get it. Those printed internet cards seem quite impersonal.

It wouldn’t have been much effort to buy and hand write a message.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 11/03/2018 09:24

Lack of effort because he purchased the card online rather than an actual shop? What a load of rubbish.

Some people are just ungrateful or believe they are special snowflakes that deserve x, y and z because the card shops tell them so. MN will be full of similar posts all day.

gildashairflick · 11/03/2018 09:34

My mum has a moonpig card and present this year. I couldn't get out the house on Thursday due to the snow. I'm recovering from an op and falling arse over tit would impeded my recovery. So I ordered online and have text my mum to apologise for being unable to get myself and that the present wasn't my usual standard overpriced for what it was My mum replied that it's the thought that counts and anything from me is appreciated. I'm laid in bed wasting for my card and breakfast in bed and my OH has absolutely not just run out to the Tesco express 'for something' leaving the kids watching Paddington 2!

gildashairflick · 11/03/2018 09:37

Yep I'm wasting (away!). Should say waiting

blueskyinmarch · 11/03/2018 09:40

My DD2 (age 20) is a big fan of these kinds of cards. I like that she has gone to the trouble of looking at all the images and selecting one i would like then adding her own personal message.

I sent one recently and I swear it took me longer than it would have driving to town, buying a card, writing it and posting it. It isn't minimal effort. For that alone YABU and ungrateful.

jaseyraex · 11/03/2018 09:47

I think just be glad you got a card tbh. yeah it's not your cup of tea, but at least he actually remembered to get you one. I don't think there's much difference picking you a generic moonpig card than picking you a generic card from a shop in town.

LucyMorningStar · 11/03/2018 09:50

Yellow, oh no you dropped the S-word!!!!! Quick, run and hide before you get jumped on by all the mortified and gravely offended 😂

Really, this is how you tell apart privileged and normal folk.
'My card wasn't hand written, poor me, boo hoo'
vs
'I god a card, cool, nice one'

ClaryFray · 11/03/2018 09:51

You got a card. Be greatful for that. My first card was written by my mum. Babies 6 months.

Bettyswitch · 11/03/2018 09:52

Be grateful you got a bloody card!!!

fussychica · 11/03/2018 09:54

I got a lovely ecard this morning with perfect words from DS. I usually get a normal card but am away abroad with no postal address so I was delighted.
I use ecards all the time, especially to friends abroad. They are lovely and I know they will receive it on time.
I do understand your disappointment but cuddle your baby and think how lucky you are.

H0ttert0day · 11/03/2018 14:55

Is your DP or DH a mind reader ? How would he know that an online card is not as caring ' as a hand written card ! Or is a home made card the best of the best ? You are not his mother !

Redglitter · 11/03/2018 15:01

I love online cards. The ones I send have more time and thought put into them than ones I could pick up in the shop down the road. I do handwrite the inside though.

You got a card that's the main thing. Don't make an issue of it

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 11/03/2018 15:04

Oh dear God.

Catinthebath · 11/03/2018 15:06

I don’t understand women wanting a lie in for mother’s day. Isn’t the point of it to celebrate being a mother? Get the kids in bed with you or get up and help them make you a breakfast

Bluelady · 11/03/2018 15:08

No cards here. I know there's one arriving tomorrow which will be lovely.

Floralnomad · 11/03/2018 15:10

YABVU and as an aside I’m sick of people being able to NC at a whim . You got a card from a baby who cannot write that someone took the time to order online fgs.

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:12

Yeah YABU.

butterybean · 11/03/2018 15:16

I've spent the whole day cleaning and took the kids out swimming. I haven't even been given a cup of tea yet. I made breakfast and lunch and i'll be cooking dinner. Its my first mother's day to DS born only 4 months ago by EMCS. I have been step mother to his two teenagers for 4 years. I got fuck all. YABU, I'd have loved a card.

JeNeBaguetteRien · 11/03/2018 15:38

Yabu. He thought ahead of the day to get you a card, that's not minimal effort. Presumably he looked through the images to find one you'd like. I spend a long time creating moonpig cards.

Go and cuddle your baby and your DH.

teaiseverything · 11/03/2018 15:40

YABU, very ungrateful.

Pinacollider · 11/03/2018 15:46

Omg yellowsun so I'm not the only person with a 'love from Kayleigh' card Grin I found it hilarious.

yellowsun · 11/03/2018 17:37

Brilliant Pinacollider!

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 18:50

I only got a common handwritten card from a shop, AIBU to complain it wasn't on hand made embossed paper with an original poem written in calligraphy using ink milked from a freshly caught squid and wax sealed in a perfumed envelope?
Does this mean I am underappreciated and I should leave the selfish bastard?
