Invite says "parent must accompany their child into the pool."

I don't want to go fucking swimming.

DD2 is 6 and swims like a fish.

Could you sit on the side and paddle, whilest letting her do her thing? I suspect that has been said as a sort of disclaimer against accidents

Blimey - how weird. Has the birthday child's mum had a tummy tuck she wants to show off or something? The very thought of all those semi-naked rather embarrassed parents shuffling about trying to make smalltalk is making me larf...

one of my friends has one of these parties every year and I hate it although I do get in the pool as I think it is a bit much to expect her to watch all the kids in the pool ( although the less kind part of me thinks why can't you just have a psrty on land FFS!

Legally do they not need so many adults in the water.

DP always used to go in the pool at these parties not me.

If I had to I'd go in shorts and t-shirt, sit by the pool and look like I was ready to dive in if it became necessary to do a spot of life-saving.

There are rules about under 8s and although the ratio of adult to children may be ok it's not really fair to expect other parents to be responsible for your child I suppose.

I've never seen this on any invitation before - and my DDs have been to a fair few swimming parties. The only thing that struck me (apart from the giggles at the mental picture of sub aqua parental introductions) was that it might be one of those water adventure places which can be more difficult to supervise. Also, adult/child ratios for swimming activities for under 8's are quite high these days.

The pools that I used to go to in London required a parent to be in the water for every child under 8.

They may have put it on all invites as a security blanket in case they all got left unsupervised (I did similar last year but said to majority if it cause a problem to tell me and we would sort it out)

I would have been fine being left with a 6yo that can swim but IME majority can't and would need quite close supervision.

Apparently it was to do with the number of children and the fact that only 2 life guards were there. They hired the whole pool for the party, which was nice.

I didn't mind that much in the end, but kept myself submerged and dashed out early to get changed and avoid the rush in the changing room (which was communal).

I like children's parties to have alcohol and snacks for adults .. not exercise

I've never had a request like this for a swimming party, although TBH swimming parties for 6 year olds? bit young IMO you're bound to get quite a few even at that age who are still not confident in the water

I don't want to be seen in a swimming costume in a social situation with people I know! Very different. I'm self-conscious enough with strangers. And I hate taking the children swimming tbh.

I've taken them swimming but, yeah, it's the party context.

No I get the don't want to be bothered with swimming party.

Just don't see the difference between wearing costume in front of other parents (who tbh won't look much better!) and in front of strangers.
