To think someone on our street doesn't like us?!

We might be annoying. Dog likes to bark, though we bring her in when she starts. We live on the corner so perhaps our vehicle blocks people's view when turning into the road (we have a large van). We have small DC but they haven't been out in the garden to play for ages. We are end terrace and the ndn swear blind they can't hear us.

Recently our van has been egged (ndn informed us before it dried, luckily!), our recycling bins have been nicked, and today I noticed a pile of (full, tied) bin bags under our carport that aren't ours?!

AIBU to think someone nearby is pulling some mildly annoying passive aggressive stunts for some reason?

Fwiw if they had a serious grievance and just spoke to me about it I would try to come to an amicable agreement/solution. Just in case they are reading....

(None of these incidents are likely to be linked, it's just odd)

Stop parking your large van on the corner before someone sets fire to it. You know that's not on.

blastomama · 08/03/2018 17:45

And she said she calls the dog in when it starts barking

Yeah, my old neighbour said the same. What she meant was she called the dog in when she noticed, which was hardly ever. And the dog barked constantly when she was out.

blastomama · 08/03/2018 17:45

But thanks for calling me a dick. Feels great. Grin

cece · 08/03/2018 17:46

In my road the person on the corner/junction house regularly blocks the entrance to our road with their vehicle.
We all moan about them and tut a lot. No one likes them...

Emmageddon · 08/03/2018 17:56

Are the bin bags full of rubbish? If it's fly-tipping, tell the council and let them root through the contents to try and identify the culprits, don't do it yourself - you never know what nasties may be lurking within. The egging is something that seems to be a bit of kiddie craze at the moment, I've seen lots of reports of people's houses and cars being targeted. As for everything else, a dog that barks and a big van are hardly hanging offences. I doubt if the neighbours are that petty and vindictive.

LeighaJ · 08/03/2018 18:29

Those sound like nasty teen pranks, have any new families moved in recently?

DenPerry · 08/03/2018 19:30

CCTV!

AverageSnowflake · 08/03/2018 19:39

You definitely need CCTV.

LynetteScavo · 08/03/2018 19:50

My neighbours were being egged. They put up TV and realised which neighbour was doing it (not who they suspected)

If you suspect the van blocks the view, shouldn't you park it somewhere else? Is it to close to the junction?

But I don't think that's the issue, and doubt the incidents are linked. I would be going through the rubbish though. There will be clues I tell you.

Tell us what the rubbish consists of a d we will veils a profile of who the culprit is.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/03/2018 20:24

Ok, back from work.

My dog isn't a jack russell. :) She tends to bark at cats or echoes the barks of dogs that live nearby. She isn't the only dog making noise, fwiw. I don't bring her in if she barks once or twice, but if she is getting worked up I will definitely bring her in. She doesn't have issues with us leaving her in the day (and I'm a sahm so she isn't left for long before someone tries to pull me up on that) and doesn't have separation anxiety. Our dog is quieter than the neighbours'.

Van on the corner - not quite. Our dropped kerb is on the corner, and the van is parked further up but still in front of our house. I will reconsider its location, as I understand it might be a nuisance for people. We can't fit it on the drive.

Will the council really be interested in flytipping on our drive?

Luckymummy22 · 08/03/2018 20:35

Why would you park a large van on a corner where it blocks peoples views when turning?

That really pisses me off. We have some numpty doing that at the end of our street and it’s an accident waiting to happen.

I’ve not quite egged it though or dumped bin bags.

I have contacted the council and so have most of the other neighbours. Still it’s there..........

namechangedtoday15 · 08/03/2018 20:44

I think parking when you know it's impacting on having a proper view of the road is really, really inconsiderate. You'd cheese me right off.

As would a dog barking regularly in the garden, particularly if it's even unsociable hrs.

But I'd never consider egging / tipping etc etc. Might throw you a dirty look instead Wink. Those incidents sound like it might be kids or a very odd neighbour.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/03/2018 20:54

I appreciate everyone's honesty - van has been moved further down the road.

Dog doesn't bark at unsociable hours btw.

"As would a dog barking regularly in the garden, particularly if it's even unsociable hrs."

What is it on Mumsnet today - I've had to write just cancel the cheque on 3 threads so far?! The OP didn't say her dog barked regularly in the garden and she specifically said its not unsociable hours.

namechangedtoday15 · 08/03/2018 21:03

I didn't say the OP said it barked at unsociable hrs, I said it would cheese me off, "particularly if it barked at unsociable hrs".

The OP subsequently said it didn't. Fair enough.

coffeeX10 · 08/03/2018 21:13

I think the PP who said that the bin bags may have been left when the person collected their bin back is probably right.

Also agree that the egging (although childish) was probs in relation to the parking the van there and that the two incidences aren’t linked.

GrannyGrissle · 08/03/2018 21:16

Erm you don't sound very well regarded OP and i'd be worried waiting for what will happen next. Is it possible you are deaf to the barking as it doesn't bother you? Repeatedly barking dogs at close proximity to my house have almost driven me to murder.
The council will only act on fly tipping if you know who did it and then the perpetrator will probably lie.

UnimaginativeUsername · 08/03/2018 21:22

You might have made things worse by moving the van, as now presumably it’s outside someone else’s house! Shock Some people get very cross indeed about this sort of thing.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/03/2018 21:22

The dog isn't left outside for ages to get bored/bark her head off. She does bark, don't get me wrong, but it is not anywhere near constant.

I'm going to chat with our neighbours tomorrow and the van will be parked elsewhere from now on so hopefully that's the end of it.

OP posts:
athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/03/2018 21:24

Van is parked around the corner, alongside our house. Hopefully I haven't stolen someone's space but I literally moved it there a few minutes ago.

OP posts:
UnimaginativeUsername · 08/03/2018 21:27

It’s a public road OP. People who think they have a dedicated space on it are quite silly. Sadly they’re also most likely to be the sort of people who really object to vans.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/03/2018 21:30

Really, Unimaginitive? Confused. You really are, aren't you?

UnimaginativeUsername · 08/03/2018 21:33

I am being lighthearted. But my experience of previous MN parking threads (and some very odd neighbours) is that some people really object to anyone parking outside their house. Some will go to ridiculous lengths to thewart this. There are also people who really object to vans being parked on their street. I’d imagine the overlap between the two groups is significant.

Thing is, they’re the sort of people you cannot win with.

(In your case, I’m with the people who think it’s a series of unconnected incidents, but really crap for you to have to deal with).

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/03/2018 21:40

Sorry, Unimagine, I may have misunderstood your comment.
But I imagine the neighbour's would be happy enough not to have a juggernaut parked on a blind bend to care where it's moved to.

UnimaginativeUsername · 08/03/2018 21:45

Well you’d think, wouldn’t you?

But with neighbours and parking it appears you just never know. My old neighbour used to do some utterly bizarre things to try to prevent people parking outside their house. Once they came round to complain that our plumber had parked outside our house but ever so slightly in front of theirs. They had a driveway and everything, but were just plain odd.
