AIBU re cooking sausages

I have got to the ripe old age of 57 without realising you can cook sausages in the oven!

No more being spat at by hot fat as sausages burn (sorry cook). What else have I missed?

I put them in my airfryer now. Even better!

Antheia · 07/03/2018 14:14

Oh yes, very handy cooking them in the oven.

I put them on a pyramid baking mat (example:
www.amazon.co.uk/Pyramid-Pan-Silicone-Baking-Mat/product-reviews/B00A29VVJS; plenty of brands) - the fat runs off from the sausages and they brown evenly.

Apparently you can cook salmon in a dishwasher but I wouldn't try that...

DixieFlatline · 07/03/2018 14:14

Way less satisfying without the greasy taste though.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 07/03/2018 14:16

I always cook sausages in the oven, mostly because the DC will use the fact that I'm busy in the kitchen as an opportunity to fight. Bung the sausages in the oven, leave them, supervise DC.

Orangedaisy · 07/03/2018 14:18

I once boiled sausages. Was on a campfire and seemed safer that way. They were served with tomato/veg gravy stuff and, although they looked odd (swollen and white rather than brown) they tasted pretty good.

sparklepops123 · 07/03/2018 14:21

I'm doing sausages tonight but last five mins with a bbq glaze on

snash12 · 07/03/2018 14:44

Never thought of this! I'm gonna try it

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 07/03/2018 14:46

Always do mine either in the oven or under the grill. Never done them in a pan

frasier · 07/03/2018 14:53

Always do them in the oven - I'd burn them in the pan because 3 year old DS.

Greaseproof paper on bottom of roasting tray makes them easy to turn if wanted. (They cook through without turning but I like mine an even colour!)

Faze84 · 07/03/2018 14:55

What temperature and for how long? Im peckish now and stuck on sofa with sleeping baby.

SneakyGremlins · 07/03/2018 14:57

Dot My air fryer instructions say not to because of the grease!

agedknees · 07/03/2018 15:00

180 for 20 mins, turning once (fan oven). Put them on a rack in a road in tin.

I do ds's chipolata sausages in the oven as he likes them pale but cooked. They take 15-18 mins at 180ish degrees. Fat sausages would take longer

agedknees · 07/03/2018 15:00

Roasting tin!!!

I cook ours on the george grill.

LagunaBubbles · 07/03/2018 15:02

I do them in the oven all the time, I put the Schwartz chargrilled chicken seasoning on them to, lovely!

steppemum · 07/03/2018 15:07

I stick them under the grill. Never fried sausages, I am always surprised you can cook them in a pan!

DotCottonDotCom · 07/03/2018 15:49

Dot My air fryer instructions say not to because of the grease!

Fuck, better check that out Grin Ignore me!

DotCottonDotCom · 07/03/2018 15:52

I just checked - they used to say it was fine but now dont.
Oh well i survived, back in the oven they go lol

Peanutbuttercups21 · 07/03/2018 15:52

agedknees, I only discovered this recently myself.

I think they are nicer from the frying pan, but kids and DH prefer the slightly "dry" oven cooked approach.

RatOnnaStick · 07/03/2018 15:56

I always do them in the oven using the grill pan with a sheet of greaseproof paper on the bottom. No grease to scrub, just a quick wipe over and away.

PuppyMonkey · 07/03/2018 15:58

They don’t taste half as nice in the oven though.

UnimaginativeUsername · 07/03/2018 15:59

I always cook mine in the oven, because it’s the easiest way.

MrsJayy · 07/03/2018 16:05

I think they cook better in the oven i always burn them in the fry also stick some onions in half way through.

squishee · 07/03/2018 16:13
