...to think Yodel are absolute shite

Waited in for a delivery. Looked at the Tracker, apparently they tried to deliver it at 10:51. Both dh and I were in, chatting in the kitchen, windows overlook the front, loads of room in front, parking spaces free; we were there from 10:30 to past 12. We would have seen anyone coming to the door, we would have seen the van parking or trying to park.

I got onto the online Chat person and said all this. According to their site the delivery was now due to be made tomorrow, which is not convenient, so she arranged for the driver to return to me today.

I checked the tracking and it had changed from 'Tomorrow' to 'Today' so I was satisfied, said thanks, and we finished our online conversation.

So I have waited in for it all day, and now their site says it's back at the depot. Miles away. No idea when it'll come.

I am so annoyed. i could have gone out in the sunshine with dh this afternoon.

There's also an additional entry which wasn't there before, saying "09:00 Delayed due to adverse weather", which is just a lie. We haven't even had rain today!

Yodel delivered to us today. Left the package in the bush in the front garden. I was home at the time. The door bell works. Totally useless!

PistFump · 06/03/2018 19:36

Yanbu but they're not as shite as Hermes.

Feilin · 06/03/2018 19:37

Yodel delivered to me today . Before 8am. MIL discovered the box set on the back step. The delivery person went through two gates to get to the back and closed them behind themselves. First properly good yodel experience.

Blackteadrinker77 · 06/03/2018 19:41

I've had a text tonight apologising that my parcel might be late due to adverse weather.

It was due before 1pm today so my husband had waited in.

A few weeks back they said they had delivered and they hadn't so I raised a claim with the company I ordered from only to have to ring them the day after when it did arrive.

Eggoispreggo · 06/03/2018 19:48

I got a text this morning saying my yodel package has been left in my safe place and a card put through the letter box. No card, no package anywhere I can find.
I can't even remember what I ordered so don't even know who to contact?!!?
No idea what's in this package that hasn't actually been put anywhere Confused

Eggoispreggo · 06/03/2018 19:49

What are you????

...to think Yodel are absolute shite
llangennith · 06/03/2018 20:02

Depends on the local delivery person. The lady who delivers for Yodel in my road is really helpful. No nonsense. She makes sure you get your package or know where or with whom she’s left it.

SocksRock · 06/03/2018 20:09

My yodel person used to leave parcels in “porch”. We don’t have a porch. We do live directly next to and opposite a very busy bus stop. We didn’t get any yodel parcels for a whole year, I complained like fury. Current yodel lady leaves parcels in our shed which means I stand an outside chance of actually receiving them.

Gingernaut · 06/03/2018 20:23

YADBU.

Royal Mail are being spectacularly stupid atm.

Our main post office has inexplicably (and without warning) closed down.

The handwritten sign on the door says "UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE", but there's no telling when that's going to be.

I ordered some books from Amazon and, because I work odd shifts, set the delivery address to the main post office.

Twice in two days, Royal Mail have attempted delivery to a shuttered shop and twice in two days, Amazon has notified me of the failed delivery.

On going up to the main sorting office, not only were the counter staff there unaware of the closure and directing customers to the main post office for certain services, I was told that they wouldn't hold the packages at the main sorting office as I had not put my home address for the delivery.

As well as proof of order and proof of identity, they insist on proof of address.

Of course, I don't live at the main post office, so the parcels will have to be delivered there in order for me to pick them up from the delivery address.

But it's closed and there's no telling when it will be open.

And of course, they will return the package if there are too many unsuccessful deliveries.

Jux · 06/03/2018 20:57

Useless lot, and liars.

It's been sunny and dry all day, and I've checked the weather today at teh depot town. Sunny and dry. Adverse weather? First time I've heard sunshine described as 'adverse weather'.

How do I complain to Yodel, rather than to some poor person at the other end of a screen doing the online chat stuff?

Yodel couldn’t deliver a parcel to themselves in their own depot Hmm

ForalltheSaints · 06/03/2018 21:01

The government should be blamed for allowing parcel delivery companies to operate without certain standards. Goes back to the 1990s when Peter Mandelson appointed Adam Crozier to run Royal Mail.

Indeed all deliveries and home visits should be to a 2 hour time window at worst, by law if needed. No excuse given that you can contact people via a mobile phone or text.

Skiiltan · 06/03/2018 21:07

All couriers are useless. I've found DPD to be the worst, but that's probably just because more eBay sellers use them. Ultimately, this is the only thing that might save high-street retailers: their online competitors can't actually get stuff to customers.

I will no longer order stuff online unless I can click & collect from Argos or have it sent by Royal Mail so I can pick it up from the sorting office. Couriers might be cheaper but they are fundamentally incapable of doing the job they're paid for.

John4703 · 06/03/2018 21:09

I get a lot of parcels delivered by Yodel. I've never had a problem. If I am out they leave the parcel in my safe place. I have a permanent note on my front door instructing delivery people to leave parcels in my blue wheelie bin or greenhouse.
Yodel always leave parcels safe.

Skiiltan · 06/03/2018 21:10

MrsMaxwell
Yodel couldn’t deliver a parcel to themselves in their own depot

They might be able to deliver one to the building next door to their own depot, and leave themselves a card saying it's been delivered to somewhere that doesn't exist. But probably not on the day they said they were going to deliver it.

Hassled · 06/03/2018 21:10

I think it's just luck of the draw - in my area Yodel are fine. Hermes are pretty patchy. It's going to be down to the individual delivery drivers rather than the actual company on the whole.

Theweasleytwins · 06/03/2018 21:10

I find it funny when people call Hermes Herpes😬

It probably isnt the front line delivery people. Its probably a bully boy organisation and ethos that forces them to act in this way to make a living. I mean who would chose to be a twat?

Ariela · 06/03/2018 23:01

Yodel and Hermes IME will put deliveries down as completed or couldn't find or you were out on the day/time in question simply because each driver is paid per delivery they attend (whether you're in or not). So by saying you were not in, they get paid. If they were truthful and said ran out of time didn't get there - they won't get paid. I'm sure it'll come tomorrow (or day after if you're a bit out of the way like us)

Jux · 07/03/2018 15:09

Yes, it came today. A driver I've not seen before, very pleasant, I didn't make a fuss to her as I'd done it online.

OP posts:
Jux · 07/03/2018 15:13

You see, RaspberryCheese, I do understand that and generally have a small amount of sympathy for them. But the Amazon drivers (which ones are they? Can't remember) have the same problem and seem to be much more efficient anyway. I order from Amazon a lot (I often get stuff on behalf of friends because I've got Prime) and I've never experienced anything like this with them, not even at Xmas time when I fully expected it.

OP posts:
Jux · 07/03/2018 15:14

Ariela, I didn't know that. I won't mind so much if it happens again, now.

RaspberryCheese · 07/03/2018 16:37

Agreed Jux,,,i guess it depends on the employment and payment model. There are quite a few bully boy companies with equally bullying managers and supervisors.
