Dog shit everywhere :(

HandbagKrabby · 06/03/2018 12:32

Just took my baby for a nice walk through piles and piles of dog shit. I counted 20 dog shits in the 100 yards around my house, loads more elsewhere. No one on my street has a dog.

Aibu to think it’s not just a tiny minority of irresponsible dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs?

I always pick up after my dog and I hate dog owners who are too lazy to do so. I have offered bags to people or when they are ignoring their dogs I have pointed out the dog has just shit. They are usually too busy on the phone to notice. And don't get me started on the owners who walk their dogs on the local football fields and leave dog shit where kids playAngry

Lethaldrizzle · 07/03/2018 07:38

Beyondthepage - oh if only you lived around these parts to pick up all the poo! as a non dog owner there is no way i am going to start doing it! What I said was slightly tongue in cheek but do you not agree there probably are dog owners that only pick up poo if they're being observed

SugarPlumLairy · 07/03/2018 07:46

Dog owner here.
Totally fed up and getting quite rages on what should be relaxing walks wiyh our dog due to number of poos or abandoned poo bags. Some bastard even did a giant poo on verge outside my house so getting into car there was a feat of poo dodging.

I have tidied up after my dog, other people's dogs, and cleared front of house as am so fed up with people giving me bad looks as if my dog is responsible for all the poos in the street.

If these people,e cant manage basic dog care why have dog on first place 😡😡😡

Jaynesworld · 07/03/2018 07:51

My dog shit alley is the path RIGHT OUTSIDE the school/nursery 😠 The one that 300 children have to use. There are currently 20 piles of steaming shit. Our local council are sooo slow in picking them up that they get trod in before they clean it.
I would do some very, very horrific things to the persons doing this.

BeyondThePage · 07/03/2018 07:59

Those 20 piles were left by people who did not pick up their dog's poop - they are TOTALLY in the wrong, they are dirty, horrid people who should be prosecuted..

But... they are also being left by 300 sets of people every day who have no pride in their local community, who think someone else should do it.

Personally, would just get a poop-picker, some bags and clear it. But that's just me (obviously...).

LakieLady · 07/03/2018 08:18

We live in an area that is almost totally shit-free, despite approx 50% of the houses having dogs. I wonder if the presence of a few turds makes otherwise responsible dog owners think "Why should I bother, if no-one else does?" and start leaving theirs behind, too.

The neighbours opposite had Air BNB people staying at the weekend. They took their dog out, came back from the field with a bag of crap, and then left it on the grass verge outside the house they were staying in. Wtf is that about?

RoadToRivendell · 07/03/2018 08:24

I'd love to see the councils cracking down on this.

Dogs should be licensed, chipped, DNA submitted so that the poo is traceable.

Have a dog warden walking the streets with a wand to confirm chips.

Easy peasy.

NooNooHead · 07/03/2018 08:25

Cat crap gets me too - and I’m saying that as a cat owner whose cat probably craps in other people’s gardens. I’m a OTT over cat crap though being pregnant as I have some paranoid fear of toxoplasmosis, but I agree, dog poo is just as shite.

I do hate it when people leave piles of the stuff near schools. They shouldn’t own a dog if they can’t clean up after it.Angry

JaggyJobby · 07/03/2018 10:57

@RoadToRivendell sadly the owners who ware likely to get thier dogs fully licenced are the law abiding ones who pick up anyway, whereas there would be plenty of unlicenced omes not picking up and untraceable. I can say that with confidence as I live in a country with dog licencing, and they believe there are at least 300,000 unlicenced dogs in my city alone. Dog owners can also get fined if they don not have poo bags with them on a walk, but despite there being people to check (licenced dogs have a certain tag for thier collars which is a different shape each year) I have never been checked or seen anyone checked for either.

HandbagKrabby · 07/03/2018 11:02

Well, I really don’t want to pick up dog shit so I make sure I don’t have to by not owning a dog. I pick up cat shit from my cat as that is my shit responsibility.

Four dog shits smeared into the path to school this morning - perhaps I should invest in a portable pressure washer and put on a happy face as I hose down the pavements of other people’s shit responsibilities.

hibbledibble · 07/03/2018 11:05

I have a dog. I always pick up.

I find the dog mess everywhere infuriating but agree it isn't all dog. A lot is fox or cat.

It happens a lot more in the bad areas annoyingly. I would love to move somewhere nicer with less feckless owners

Qvar · 07/03/2018 11:07

One bad owner walking twice a day can cover a street in a week.

HandbagKrabby · 07/03/2018 11:12

The vast majority of people walking their dogs here are middle class and middle aged and their dogs are pedigree which unless rescued are ££££. I’m not buying it’s poor people. I’m not buying it’s cat or fox shit. It’s entitled dog owner dog shit and it’s everywhere.

Not just in the U.K. unfortunately - our dog poop alley was in Switzerland

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/03/2018 12:44

Last year I saw a repeat offender on my road(doesn't live on it btw) walking away from a steaming pile..I said((very loudly)) to my children there would be uproar if i let you guys crap outside someone's gate and just walked off .his head shrunk into his collar as he skulked away.never came down our rd again with his mutt
I am not anti dog owner just anti irresponsible dog owner

BornInALighthouse · 07/03/2018 12:50

My shared (LA) garden is covered in the stuff. Don't even bother taking the toddler out there anymore. Have called the council/warden but no change. Depressing stuff.

PilatesSuck · 07/03/2018 22:18

Its bad here too because people go walking and there are several bins. My neighbour was furious at a culpit so picked up the poor and smeared in on and in his wing mirror Grin

Jaynesworld · 08/03/2018 10:16

But why should people have to pick up other peoples dog shit?? It would also make the problem worse, as they would then think "its ok someone else will do it."

PositivelyPERF · 08/03/2018 10:27

Jaynesworld I agree. It’ll end up like those prats that leave litter, with the excuse “it keeps someone in a job”. thinking of you bil 😒.

I have over 100 dogs on my books and pick up after all of them (not all at the same time!) 😁 But I can’t stomach the thought of picking up the poo of a dog I don’t know. 🤢 It’s surprising how many dog owners feel the same.

RoadToRivendell · 08/03/2018 11:07

I can say that with confidence as I live in a country with dog licencing, and they believe there are at least 300,000 unlicenced dogs in my city alone

Seems easily resolved - dog wardens with microchip wands & K9 trucks at the ready.

happymumof4crazykids · 08/03/2018 11:12

Yep it's bad enough normally but has been horrific around my area lately. I spend my life saying watch the dog poo! I hate walking around at night as with only half the street lights on it's almost impossible to avoid. I seriously hope that all the irresponsible owners start being fined. I would enjoy being a dog poo warden I think Angry

BeyondThePage · 08/03/2018 11:47

One bad owner walking twice a day can cover a street in a week

and a good one can undo it - we always take a few extra bags - at the start we needed an extra 3 or 4 each walk, now we just need what our dog uses, but still take the extras, using one very occasionally - more often for litter now.

But why should people have to pick up other peoples dog shit

they shouldn't have to, you are right.

but if I didn't - for instance - MY neighbourhood would be full of stinking dog crap, people - including me- would be continually having to avoid it, or treading in it. I like a nice neighbourhood, so I do something about it. Others will campaign to have bins fitted, or fines imposed. Others will quite happily whinge about it, but do nothing. Out of the 3 options - I now have the nice neighbourhood, so carrying a few extra poop bags is a winner for ME and that is what counts (to me).

Notavictimbutasurvivor · 08/03/2018 11:53

Where I live the playing fields and school field are covered in dog dirt. The amount of times my dc have trod in it on the school field is unbelievable

Jaynesworld · 08/03/2018 13:49

It seems that it is becoming more and more frequent.
I personally cannot touch the dog poo (diagnosed OCD) even through a bag. But other dog walkers clean up and clear the school path almost everyday. There are several culprits/suspects but as no one has reported or sometimes can identify them. The council wont do anything.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 08/03/2018 13:57

There's a road en route to the park, known as shit alley. Surely people can take their dogs the 30 second walk to the park, and pick up after them? Also, the route to school. So many mothers, myself included, have rung the council and complained. The same piles of shit are there for months. It's a treelined road, if you have a buggy, you often have to push right through it, or go on the road.
