Dog shit everywhere :(

HandbagKrabby · 06/03/2018 12:32

Just took my baby for a nice walk through piles and piles of dog shit. I counted 20 dog shits in the 100 yards around my house, loads more elsewhere. No one on my street has a dog.

Aibu to think it’s not just a tiny minority of irresponsible dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs?

Bag, not gag.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 13:58

My theory is that dog owners only pick up poo when there's someone around to observe them doing it. Otherwise they leave it. How else do you explain all the dog poo and yet all the owners say they pick it up

Bullshite. I run a dog daycare/holiday business and ALWAYS pick up after the dogs. I can usually tell which dogs aren’t picked up by how they react after pooing. The ones who aren’t picked up after tend to try to move quickly on, as their dickish owners have pulled them away. They’re the owners that I always struck up a dog shit conversation with. Usually along the lines of having stepped in shit, because some selfish arse didn’t pick it up, yet I can pick up after six dogs.

Pumperthepumper · 06/03/2018 14:00

Our street is usually fine but it’s totally disgusting this week - as a PP said, I think it’s because of the snow. It’s everywhere and trying to manoeuvre a buggy around it all is not fun.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 14:01

Oops posted too soon. I honestly believe that if you are a true dog lover, you will pick up after your dog, as you won’t want dogs having a bad name. If you don’t do that, then you’re simply a selfish arse that owns a dog.

The shut in the local parks and pavements are fecking disgusting after snow. Ignorant bastards. 😡

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 14:01

The *shit not shut.

Rainatnight · 06/03/2018 14:02

I agree with you, OP. I am completely and utterly fed up with this. Cleaning shit off pushchair wheels is so vile. And I can't imagine what it must be like for wheelchair users.

I do think in a couple of hundred years, people will look back at dogs shitting on the street the way we do at people in mediaeval times throwing their own shit out the window. It's just disgusting and I don't how people get away with it.

I agree with you about the snow. In our neighbourhood, it just melted away to reveal what seemed like hundreds of perfectly preserved turds.

Maybe there should be an MN campaign?

CruCru · 06/03/2018 14:02

Ah, the photos are not stored on my phone - they just go straight to the council.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 14:05

It only takes a couple of local dogs to produce a load of shut on one road. Some of my dogs poo once, but others will do great steaming piles at least three times, when we’re out. That’s a whole other conversation about dog food I’m just looking at eight if my dogs, lying near me and there are three that could make the toad absolutely vile on one walk, if I didn’t pick up after them.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 14:07

Stop spellchecking SHIT to SHUT you fecking uptight prudish phone!

Nikephorus · 06/03/2018 14:09

Totally not true. Most of the dog walkers round my way always pick up (and pick up after others that have been left). It's an anti-social minority (and definitely worse after snow).

FizzyGreenWater · 06/03/2018 14:10

Anyone remember the thread where the OP popped the shit into the hood of the woman's coat when she went to the loo?!

They were at an outdoor cafe and woman had just let her dog shit and refused to pick up when asked (!)

So OP got on with her coffee, and when the woman went to the loo she picked up the shit and tucked it into the hood of the woman's coat over the back of her chair then hastily left!!!

BRILLIANT.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 14:18

So OP got on with her coffee, and when the woman went to the loo she picked up the shit and tucked it into the hood of the woman's coat over the back of her chair then hastily left 🤣 It should be compulsory for those that don’t pick up shut to clean parks as punishment without gloves

Snowyrange · 06/03/2018 14:20

OP it really is so annoying isn't it?

My son pointed out to a dog owner that he hadn't clean up dog poo when he saw that he had just let his dog shit all over the pavement.

This adult denied to my son that it was his dog. Yes even though we all saw it.

It was incredible.

To be honest I don't normally take issue directly with people who let their dogs shit as if they really think it is ok to do this in their neighbourhood then they are unlikely to be deterred by being asked nicely.

What I don't get is the dog owners who do pick up the shit but put it in my rubbish bin. Argghhhh dog shit everywhere.

I wish the council could actually do something about it.

HandbagKrabby · 06/03/2018 14:21

I was thinking that rain as I dodged shit after shit - I was surprised someone didn’t throw a bucket of dog piss over me and the baby when we walked past the flats.

At the moment there isn’t enough disincentive so people will just leave it as no one relishes handling dog shit.

We used to cycle down a path off the main roads to get the dc safely to school. We called it poo lane. The stuff was everywhere. Sad

We live in Asia atm and 15 years ago when we were here pre DC there was no poo to be seen. Now it’s left lying around much more. And there are plenty of dog poo bins on every street.

Dog owners don’t want to touch the stuff and neither do the domestic helpers the owners employ to deal with this side of pet ownership.

Being Asia, it gets pretty hot and humid in the summer months. You can imagine the smell.

It’s not just a thing in the UK. Sad

Fanciedachange1 · 06/03/2018 14:24

I'm a dog owner and this is a real issue where I live. I live on the edge of an estate and on the main roads it's pretty safe. Dogs are on leads because it's a busy main road so people either pick up because they are responsible, or do it because they know there's always someone watching.

On the estate however its another story. There are quite a few pedestrian areas of open green space where people let their dogs run free. These are the places that tend to be hit the most as people aren't keeping an eye on their dogs. Unfortunately these are also places popular with kids having a kick about!

There's no excuse for it.

I did see a real trooper though on the busy road. A lady was walking her dog across the pedestrian crossing and it decided to shit half way across. Credit to her though she picked it up even though the cars were getting a bit antsy at having to wait!

Fanciedachange1 · 06/03/2018 14:29

Citychick I don't see the problem people have picking it up? With bags you don't have to touch it, and surely they can't avoid the ones the dogs do in their gardens? This isn't a dig at you btw just an excuse that I can't get my head around!

Though I used to work on hospital wards and was used to being exposed to all sorts of bodily excretions so maybe I see things differently to these people who cannot bare to clean up after their dogs!

I wonder if these people have trouble wiping their own arses? :D

citychick · 06/03/2018 14:48

fancie

No offence taken. No dog here at present, sadly.
I don’t get it either, it the culture here is that that domestic helpers are employed to do this sort of thing. And culturally those helpers are not really dog lovers. People don’t used bags they gather poo up with newspaper which isn’t easy. It’s all left loose and then turned into the bin, if indeed it gets that far. They won’t use bags because they think they are touching the poo. Of course they are not, but many people here selfishly assume there will always be someone to clean up the mess if they don’t.

It’s apartment living here so no gardens. And dogs not allowed in parks.

Just to say, I do know some wonderful dog owners too tho.

i wonder if these people have trouble wiping their own arses

You’ve not been in a public loo facility in Asia I take it? 😱

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 06/03/2018 21:23

Ugh I kind of feel your pain we’ve recently moved out in the country down a farm loaning and the elderly man next door has a dog which he lets out wandering all day, twice I found crap on the grass, fine I though on the grass I’ll pick it up and just make sure I close the gate (metal farm style gate at end of drive) which is a pita and don’t always remember! Anyway couple of weeks ago found one right in my door step great big stinking pile I was so angry! Gate is closed each and every time now.

I mean I know poo is part and parcel of living in the country but jeez I think that is really selfish

Stormwhale · 06/03/2018 21:38

City I'm not sure if I should ask, but what is the deal with Asian public loos?

RaspberryCheese · 06/03/2018 22:08

This is because Britain is a dirty shit hole of a country. If it isnt doggo, its litter,if it isnt litter its flytipping and dont get me started on the social ills of drunkeness, crime and drugs..

tortelliniforever · 07/03/2018 07:03

This is because Britain is a dirty shit hole of a country

Plenty of people have noted that it is not just in the UK. My dog poo-ey road is in Italy.

JaggyJobby · 07/03/2018 07:16

I carry loads of bags with me at all times to clean up after my dog, and also offer bags to people who are clearly not going to pick up after thier dogs.

The snow definitely makes it worse, with litter as well as poo, the streets here are always absolutely disgusting after snow melts away. Possibly because there are less people out and about, and there are a lot of opportunist litterers and poo leavers who only pick up if there are witnesses around.

JaggyJobby · 07/03/2018 07:18

@greensleevess I also have a Shit Alley locally, only the one here is human shit which my dog will roll in given the chance 🤭😭

BeyondThePage · 07/03/2018 07:31

My theory is that dog owners only pick up poo when there's someone around to observe them doing it. Otherwise they leave it. How else do you explain all the dog poo and yet all the owners say they pick it up

How dare you! I seriously feel affronted by this - there is very little dog poop OR litter in our area because people like me go round picking up any we see on our dog walks. There is a circle of around a mile where we are pretty much poop and litter free. People tend to leave both in areas where there is already some.

My neighbourhood will be clean, because I live there and will personally get off my butt and do something about it.

So what if it someone else's dog'd poop or litter, so what if feckless idiots leave litter and poop, so what if it is not my job to clear it. I do, and I never get poop on my shoes etc, or have to play dodge the heap. I benefit greatly from a dog-poop-free neighbourhood.
