To tell DH I want a third baby?

To cut a long story short I've had two assisted births, second ending in emergency c section and I've been told a third would automatically be a c section. My DH openly would like another, so would I but I'm afraid. I don't want admit how broody I am to him because I know he'll talk me round. How bad are planned c sections? I'll be 31, other dc school age. Financially sound, not quite enough space but easily remedied. It's literally the c section worries

I had an ELCS and it was lovely and relaxed. Recovery was also really quick, but it was my first abdominal surgery so less scope for issue.

CheshireChat · 06/03/2018 10:26

For issues.

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 10:32

That's what I'm worried about , cutting through the scar.

I had an ELCS recently. I was absolutely terrified in the run up to it, my first was an EMCS and I just had to get on with it, this time around I had a lot of time to build it up in my mind. I cried the whole way to the theatre! But it was absolutely fine and if we were having a third I’d do it again without hesitation. The spinal was the worst bit, and that was just uncomfortable more than anything. Surgery was very straightforward and it was a really nice atmosphere in the theatre, recovery has been good, and it was so bloody nice having the baby and me and my partner not being exhausted from a long labour! My first day with DD was just awful after the EMCS and my exhaustion, my first day with DS was just lovely. I’m really glad we chose an elective.

But then I feel like I will always wish I'd had another... but I might feel like that with four!

Sil had 5 cs. She's a nurse. She was - and is - fine.

Nemophilist · 06/03/2018 10:35

My 1st was EMCS, 2nd ELCS but under slight emergency conditions as I had started active labour 3 days before planned section but it was much less stressful and faster recovery. Got to do skin to skin with on 30 mins. Was sat in a chair 4 hours after and walking around after 6 hours went home the following day. Took 3 weeks to recover at home. Very small infection on scar at 3 weeks but that was down to me pushing myself too much.
I had infertility issues and very bad scar tissue after my 1st which they sorted with 2nd and I'm back to the person I was before 1st.
I was very high risk for rupture that's way I selected ELCS. I know so women have bad experience with recovery just remember it's major surgery and your body needs time to heal after so you need a lot of support around you.

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 10:36

Rainy I was terrified with my first and already exhausted - and I also found the spinal the worst bit. But I've never had a spinal without contractions - is it the same?

Whatshallidonowpeople · 06/03/2018 10:36

Why do you feel you need another one? Why aren't the children you have enough? Not being nasty, genuinely interested. People who keep having baby after baby baffle me. How can they five their other children enough attention?

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 10:39

Nemo with my first my recovery wasn't too bad - 4 years on I can't see my scar. I did too much too but that resulted in horrid back pain more than anything. I remember wind pain being the worst bit after

What's - valid question which I can't answer! It feels like a need. I'm suspicious it coincides with them both being at school this year Grin

I also have a lot of pets - maybe I'm just greedy

Only you can decide. IMO — not a good idea. The broodiness will absolutely pass.

RainyDayBear · 06/03/2018 10:48

With my first they did the spinal between contractions so it wasn’t too bad, I was just grateful it was going to end the pain of the contractions!! I wouldn’t say the spinal was bad, it was the anticipation and knowing what they were doing. I only felt pressure and odd sensations when she was administering it rather than pain.

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 10:53

Hmmm thanks everyone. Lots of differing opinions. I'm hoping it will pass, thing is we always planned more (before we'd experienced one Grin) and we are at a point where everything else would make it an easy decision except the bloody c section

I think I'll just try to stop thinking about it

I had two C-sections. First was an EMCS, second was supposed to be ELCS, but he came a month early so was another EMCS! I didn't find the second one any worse than the first. In fact, it was easier I think because I at least was expecting it, even if I wasn't expecting it then. I had both under GA though, not spinal, so I don't know if that makes any difference.

arseholeseverywhere · 06/03/2018 11:25

I'm sorry I've no personal advice as I've not had a section, but from what I hear from everyone is that an elective is much smoother op and recovery generally than an emergency section

MimiSunshine · 06/03/2018 11:55

No advice on the csec but just wanted to respond to your question here:
Rainy I was terrified with my first and already exhausted - and I also found the spinal the worst bit. But I've never had a spinal without contractions - is it the same?

I had a full spinal after delivery as I had a retained placenta so had to go in to surgery.
It was totally fine and I don’t remember feeling a thing, however due to the retained placenta I wasn’t having any contractions and I remember wondering how anyone kept as still as they need you to while in active labour if you’re having it as pain relief.

So I’d say if you were having an elcs you’d probably be fine and much more comfortable

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 12:51

Thank you. It's hard deciding - dc2 was a surprise!

QueenofmyPrinces · 06/03/2018 13:15

DS1 was ELCS and DS2 was supposed to be an ELCS but I went into labour three days before my section was booked for.

My ELCS was lovely, very calm and I was so excited when I walked into the hospital knowing I was going to meet my baby that day.

Littleraincloud · 06/03/2018 13:17

I bet you were queen! I suppose an elc is convenient for sorting childcare too Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/03/2018 13:19

I had three electives and would have had another if DH hadn't said no.

QueenofmyPrinces · 06/03/2018 13:30

The only negative aspect of ELCS, based on my experience of DS2, was the issue of what happens if you go into natural labour first!! Grin

Waitingonasmile · 06/03/2018 13:34

I've had an emcs and an elcs. The elcs was a lovely experience! It was calm, everyone was relaxed and recovery was so easy. I didn't believe it when people said there was a huge difference between elcs and emcs but for me there was. The surgeon also said that I would be safe to go ahead with a third.
