Veet burn - quick what do i do?

SomeKnobend · 06/03/2018 08:18

Put veet on my armpits. Left it less than 5 minutes as it started to burn (instructions are at least 5 min, mx 10 min). Have washed it off but skin is red and burns and hurts. Have got wet flannels with an ice pop in under each armpit. What the fuck do I do?

Does your OH have any of that post shave balm? I've used that when I've ripped my legs to shreds, yeah smells a bit Manley but it does the trick

ashotinthedarkk · 06/03/2018 08:21

Keep ice on it for as long as you can. Ouch!!

Rosamund1 · 06/03/2018 08:22

Aloe Vera gel?

Shiningsta · 06/03/2018 08:22

As sophaloaf says.

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 06/03/2018 08:23

I read that as Veet bum ... so it could be worse OPGrin

I used to use it on my bikini line and found it the most inconsistent thing ever. Had to hurriedly wash straight off on numerous occasions; cold flannels like you. It soon calms down.

TheGhostsOfPresidentsYetToCome · 06/03/2018 08:23

Drapolene or other nappy cream is your friend. I’ve done this many times and I wish it was my armpits Confused

Bobbiepin · 06/03/2018 08:23

Keep rinsing it with cold water, in the shower if you can stand the cold, for as long as you can. Some kind of sudocreme after to help the skin.

Then read this to help you feel better. You are not alone, be thankful its only armpits.

Do not put on deodorant.

SomeKnobend · 06/03/2018 08:24

Really Sophaloaf? I'mtoo fucking scared, surely that'll burn like fuck?! NHS says go to a&e for ALL chemical burns. But dh says maybe it's a reaction, not a burn? But it fucking burns! And the fucking hair is still there!!!! Cunts.

Thelampshadelady · 06/03/2018 08:25

I also read it as very bum Blush
Veet scares me. If it’s strong enough to ‘melt’ hair then I’m not surprised that it’s burns skin.
Whatever you do, don’t use deodorant.

SomeKnobend · 06/03/2018 08:26

Ok I have nappy cream. Gonna sit here with the ice on for a bit and then nappy cream it. Thanks to the funny ones for making me laugh. Yes veet bum could be worse!

After Sun (nivea etc) is also good for stuff like this. Very good for chilli burns well

Talith · 06/03/2018 08:43

I got this on my nethers (was the sensitive veet). Chemical burns basically.

Do as little as possible. Aloe Vera will sting like fuckery. So will any cream. I tried everything. Just leave it alone. Cool flannel only.

Sudocrem!

Luxembourgmama · 06/03/2018 08:48

sudocream helped me

Talith · 06/03/2018 08:50

If you have any raw bits, blistering or weepy bits don't even put nappy cream on it I promise you it will hurt like fuck.

foobio · 06/03/2018 10:18

Veet is a strong alkali, so in theory, a mild acid like vinegar or lemon might neutralise and soothe the burn? (Caveat: I have no medical background but did a level chemistry, experiment with caution!)

Talith · 06/03/2018 11:00

Foobio I don't think putting acid on potentially broken skin is a good idea. Acid or alkali the cream itself has long gone. What's left is damaged skin. You wouldn't put lemon juice on a graze.

How are you feeling OP?

SomeKnobend · 06/03/2018 23:13

Thank you all. It's pretty sore tbh! I've put Vaseline on (nurse's advice), which has stopped it rubbing burns every time I move an arm, so that's helped a lot. Looking forward to not wearing any deodorant on my hairy pits this week, there's a treat for everyone!

Talith · 06/03/2018 23:15

Hope it heals soon. Looks very sore but on the mend X Grin

averylongtimeago · 06/03/2018 23:30

Yup that looks like my dh's face after he used veet (or it may have been immac) when he had run out of razors.

Westworld · 06/03/2018 23:37

I too was looking forward to reading the veet bum advice 😀

Sorry OP - hope you get sorted soon!

RingFence · 07/03/2018 06:52

When this happened to me I put a thick layer of Vaseline on it. Not sure if that's what you're supposed to do but it soothed the stinging and stopped the skin sticking together. It eased after a couple of days.
I think mine was a reaction as I only had it on for 5 mins! You could take antihistamine like piriton and see if that helps.

WinonaIsHot · 07/03/2018 06:58

I've put Vaseline on (nurse's advice)

A nurse told you to put vasaline on a burn? Shock. Just cold water/flannels and leave it alone.
