AUBU to believe in Aloe Vera?

Someone tried to get me into the forever living thing. I lost some money then came to my senses. My question is about the products themselves. Does anyone think that aloe drink is worth it? About £20 per litre and tastes like poison but is basically the fountain of youth and health.

Am I being a mug?

Yes you are.

glueandstick · 05/03/2018 22:43

Bullshit. And you can get it cheaper in H&B.

For burns it is brilliant but a £2 plant from Ikea will do the same thing. Snap off a leaf and squeeze out the juice.

Rosamund1 · 05/03/2018 22:45

But they say their one is all specially processed and the Holland and B one has lost the nutrients or something.

A fool and their money....

CheeseGirl4 · 05/03/2018 22:50

OF COURSE they say that, they're trying to make you pay over the odds for it.

upsideup · 05/03/2018 22:52

YANBU it does miracles for our skin, absolutely essential in our house. Its not suprising that it will be benefitial from the inside too, will look into trying it.

pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2018 22:53

It's fabulous stuff that you can buy much cheaper than forever living flog it for.

ShinyMe · 05/03/2018 22:54

I once burnt the inside of my mouth really badly (I was stupid and stirred very hot melty butter with a metal spoon, and then put it in my mouth to lick it clean) and it was agony. Then I realised I had a big aloe vera plant, and ended up snapping off bits, putting them in the fridge for a bit and then slitting them in half and sucking them like lollies. I spent 24 hours doing that and it was massively helpful. My plant was just a cheap garden centre thing though. No way would I spend significant money on it.

Queenoftheblitz · 05/03/2018 22:56

I've been given two plants. Can i use the juice as a face serum?

DalekDalekDalek · 05/03/2018 22:58

But they say their one is all specially processed and the Holland and B one has lost the nutrients or something.

Well they're hardly going to say "yeah, it's exactly the same as the H&B stuff but ten times more expensive" are they?

MsPavlichenko · 05/03/2018 23:04

It's a plant. Not a belief system. However concentrated.

Willow2017 · 05/03/2018 23:27

Of course they are trying to sell it as the best thing ever.
But do you seriously believe that its the cure all of all ills?
Would you believe someone telling you it cures cancer, autism, and as its natural nobody can be allergic to it? I doubt it but thats what the FL bots claim.

Its a scam and you would be daft to lose any more money on it. Buy it cheaper elsewhere or get a plant and use it as a burn soother when necessary. Much more cost effective and nice to look at.

FL is not processed any better than anything else, its just over priced, over hyped and they lie through their teeth to sell it.

PhelanThePain · 05/03/2018 23:29

I believe in aloe Vera. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. It definitely exists. Wink

catx1606 · 05/03/2018 23:32

I will say in forever livings defence that the gel they sell is almost 100% pure aloe. The difference is bwtween theirs and the shoos one is that their one is a gel, the ones in the shops are juices which will have been diluted and won't be nearly as pure. I used to drink it myself and the only reason I stopped was the price. You will find that all products from a MLM company will be very expensive.

Aloe is very very good for burns.

I was a forever living rep a few years ago and whilst I will never go near another MLM company, their products are good.

ViceAdmiralAmilynHoldo · 05/03/2018 23:32

Not only is Aloe Vera a real plant, it is also very cheap to buy and hard to kill. It has loads of babies so you've probably got a friend who can give you one free.
Marvellous for burns. No need to process away that natural goodness.

BonnieF · 06/03/2018 00:38

Aloe Vera is just a plant. A fairly unremarkable, common perennial succulent.

Saying you ‘believe in’ aloe Vera is an entirely meaningless statement, equivalent to saying you ‘believe in’ courgettes.

Courgettes do at least have the benefit of tasing nice when sautéed in olive oil.

GrockleBocs · 06/03/2018 00:52

Aloe vera falls into the category of plant based medicine, like aspirin from willow bark. A lot of this stuff really works. My great gran was an expert at it. You do not need to buy processed versions of it to make money for a company.

tracymars · 06/03/2018 01:23

H & B do organic Aloe Vera gel. I buy it when it's on offer. I find it really soothing on bites, burns, sunburns. Basically anything that's irritating my skin. Aloe Vera plants sound like a good idea too. Unfortunately I am shit at keeping even the easiest houseplant alive. Lots of lovely plants in my garden though. But I don't choose plants that need a lot of looking after.

Obi1Kenobi · 06/03/2018 01:25

Think to yourself. Humans have evolved over millions of years without the help of Aloe Vera. There is no elixir of youth or health. It’s pure genetics. Don’t waste your money.

DalekDalekDalek · 06/03/2018 01:25

And a little garlic.

Even I can keep Aloe Vera alive.

  1. Put it somewhere fairly sunny
  2. Completely forget about it
  3. Notice it about a month or two later (longer in winter) and be amazed that it isn't dead yet.
  4. Give it a cupful of water.
Repeat steps 2 to 4 until it is pot bound then amaze your friends with lots of baby Aloe Vera due to your amazing green fingers.

And also lemon. Gorgeous.

hazell42 · 06/03/2018 09:58

You are not being unreasonable to believe. But you might not be right. I believe in fairies. I do. I do. Doesn't mean they exist

Beetlejizz · 06/03/2018 10:00

Aloe vera is great. What are you hoping to achieve by drinking that FL potion, though?

HuskyMcClusky · 06/03/2018 10:02

Absolutely yes.

Drinking it?! Bollocks.
