AUBU to believe in Aloe Vera?

Rosamund1 · 05/03/2018 22:41

Someone tried to get me into the forever living thing. I lost some money then came to my senses. My question is about the products themselves. Does anyone think that aloe drink is worth it? About £20 per litre and tastes like poison but is basically the fountain of youth and health.

Am I being a mug?

It is a known cure for burns since centuries. It is also used in skin care for years, I know it as I am allergic to it and suffered 20 years ago when I swapped skin care brands.

I am sure a balanced diet is cheaper than drinking the stuff people sell you to overpriced prices.

Luckingfovely · 06/03/2018 10:13

Forever Living is considered the Devil's Own on MN.

Although, for balance, I know several people who have done the Clean 9 thing and have gone on to lose a substantial amount of weight using that a spring board. It is stupidly overpriced, but if people find it works and want to spend their money, then up to them, frankly.

FL is a pyramid scheme and I wouldn't buy from them directly.

PPs offer v good advice re buying Aloe Vera juice from H&B, it's way cheaper.

I go through phases of drinking Aloe Vera a couple of times a day when I want to feel healthy and it works for me. Watch me get chased from MN with flaming spears.

Whether it's any better than any other pure juices for you - who knows. If you believe it works for you, drink it but don't mention it on here!

KochabRising · 06/03/2018 10:15

Great stuff for burns - but do yourself a favour and just get a plant.

Not advisable to drink it at all. I certainly wouldn’t.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 06/03/2018 10:18

YANBU it does miracles for our skin, absolutely essential in our house. Its not suprising that it will be benefitial from the inside too, will look into trying it.

Are you an MLM bot?

SleepFreeZone · 06/03/2018 10:18

What are we saying it’s good for though? Forever Living has made some outrageous claims including curing cancer I believe. If it was so amazing don’t you think they might be researching it heavily and using it to cure ailments.

I watched something the other day that is really simple and has been pteoperly researched. Eating five prunes a day can help prevent osteoporosis and improve bone density by 11% in 12 months!!! I thought that was bloody amazing and seeing that I’m coming towards the menopause bone density is something that’s in my mind. So if you really want to eat something that could really do something positive for your body then eat prunes!

FloydOnThePull · 06/03/2018 10:21

Broccoli suggestion for the courgette chefs - steam it then when it's done, toss through a little olive oil, a chopped garlic clove and a squeeze of lemon - good for green beans too.

falsepriest · 06/03/2018 10:23

"Aloe, Vera!"

  • "Hi, Jean!"
GrumbleBumble · 06/03/2018 10:28

Falsepriest Surely that should be Hygiene.

KochabRising · 06/03/2018 10:34

Its not suprising that it will be benefitial from the inside too, will look into trying it.

It can be hepatotoxic and also injure the gut. You’d be unwise to drink it.

Stillscreaming · 06/03/2018 10:35

I'll believe that Forever Living is a reasonable and achievable way to become a millionaire, while supplying my friends and family with good value products before I'll believe that courgettes can taste nice.

TheCatsMother44 · 06/03/2018 10:38

I did the FL aloe clense, or cleanse 9 or whatever it was called. I can't remember what it was called because I've tried my hardest to block it from my mind because it traumatised me.

The aloe drink is vile, even pinching my nose I used to heave. You couldn't pay me to drink it now. I also only lost about 3lbs in the 9, 10 or whatever days it was that I did the cleanse, despite their eating plan basically being that you don't eat.

I've lost more weight in a week and felt better on slimming world so I think the aloe thing is a huge con.

TheFaerieQueene · 06/03/2018 10:38

Hazel I most certainly do exist. Your beliefs are well founded! Wink

maras2 · 06/03/2018 10:53

You're supposed to drink it?
OMFG Shock

specialsubject · 06/03/2018 10:57

No need for belief, aloe Vera exists.

Not a miracle cure. And absolutely not first aid for burns, get advice first.

Kursk · 06/03/2018 11:00

Alo is amazing stuff, but just get a plant. All you need to do is smear the sap on a burn! Wound.

Keep it simple

Chocywockydodahhhhhh · 06/03/2018 11:04

If anyone is worried they can’t keep a plant alive get an aloe plant and put it in the kitchen. It will live off the steam from the cooker and kettle. Mine is massive and I only water it about once every 2 months

KochabRising · 06/03/2018 11:18

Yeah don’t put it on thermal burns - it’s good as a general skin soother for mild sunburn.

meandmytinfoilhat · 06/03/2018 11:19

You can get it in Holland and Barrett but it doesn't taste as nice so I don't bother buying it at all.

Beetlejizz · 06/03/2018 11:22

Re FL and weight loss, aloe vera can have a laxative effect so it's not too shocking that a person who spends several days drinking it will emerge lighter at the other end.

Also courgettes are fucking lovely. I will not have this courgette slander. You know who you are.

HuskyMcClusky · 06/03/2018 11:23

I’ve used it on a thermal burn with amazing results.

Obviously, get medical advice first and don’t put it on a fresh burn.

meddie · 06/03/2018 11:28

Whoever said its natural and the body cant be allergic to it is talking no0nsense. My DD is allergic to Aloe Vera. and has very sensitive skin. Its a bloody nuisance that they put the stuff in nearly every product range for sensitive skin. Even putting the damn stuff in toilet paper and sanitary towels now..

CigarsofthePharoahs · 06/03/2018 11:39

The cheap bottle of aloe Vera gel I bought on holiday works very well on sunburn.
It's also the only house plant I've ever had any success with. Took me 5 years to kill it.

Beetlejizz · 06/03/2018 11:43

Plus, of course the body can be allergic to something 'natural'. There are people who are allergic to water, ffs.

Rosamund1 · 06/03/2018 11:54

I suppose I’m more interested in drinking it for ‘the overall health benefits’. A houseplant would not be enough for that I guess.

Rosamund1 · 06/03/2018 11:55

The forever living drink is more ‘gloopy’ and has bits.
