Channel 4 news.

Are all men who come into wealth/fame or power like this?

I say this as a mother of a much beloved DS, who has a good paternal relationship and worshiped my grandad however I witnessed my ex changing into this type of sleazy cunt as he gained success.

It's not like I hate men is what I'm trying to say. But it's so prolific makes me feel ill.

Not sure whether to put this in AIBU, relationships or feminism. I'll start with AIBU.

Yes I'd heard that about sociopaths in the business world. I married one.

I've always been aware that it happens and yes it has happened to me.

I think maybe I worry too much about my dd (18) too going out into the working world albeit it temporarily while she studies. Makes you more protective and aware.

I don't want to believe most men can be corrupted that way, by money/power

Sorry OP but I believe that this is a key factor. It is mostly men who gain money and wealth (any number of reasons). And over time they start to believe their "own" press and think they can have what they want. And they dont want "dull, stuck at home ". This is why family courts should look at this. This is evidence. It might not be evidence that lawyers like but the non-stop pattern of how wealthy powerful men abuse is absolutely irrefutable. It harms families.

Blackteadrinker77 · 05/03/2018 20:34

My point was more that every 5 minutes it seems you hear more of it and it depresses

I actually think the opposite, the fact we are hearing about it and naming and shaming means we are getting somewhere. Albeit very slowly.

HolyMountain · 05/03/2018 20:36

He was a known wanker back when Diana was in the last year of her life.

If it looks like a duck and it swims like a duck and it quacks like a duck....

"We're coming into a new puritanical age"

Eh? What on earth does that mean?

NewYearNewMe18 · 05/03/2018 20:42

I could tell you first hand stories about Al Fayed and Dodi that would make your hair curl

Rudgie47 · 05/03/2018 20:42

His son Dodi was very lecherous as well. Over the years theres been a lot written about him as well being a sex pest.

Rudgie47 · 05/03/2018 20:43

Go on then, NewYear.

YTho · 05/03/2018 20:44

Not surprised. I do think that most men, given enough money and power would use it to either try to attract young women in a consensual way or then just plain abuse their position and coerce them or worse. I don't have a high opinion of men in power generally.

NotLinkedInSnowedIn · 05/03/2018 20:44

ah gwan there newyearnewme2018 can't be havin' half a story.

BonnieF · 05/03/2018 20:48

An ex-colleague of mine worked at Harrods many years ago. Being tall, slim & ridiculously pretty, she looked like a model.

She told us that Fayed was a revolting lecherous old sleazebag who regularly groped and propositioned his employees. She turned him down, obviously.

Trailedanderror · 05/03/2018 20:54

@SnibbleAgain and @Helmetbymidnight until recently the expectation was that men would behave like Al Fayed and Weinstein and girls and women were protected from them- they'd avoid being alone with men outside their families. There were all sorts of societal rules and it certainly wasn't all good, but I predict we'll return to those rules.

BishopBrennansArse · 05/03/2018 20:56

I'm not even remotely surprised.

Hoppinggreen · 05/03/2018 20:57

When I was at school a friend had an older sister who worked at Harrods.
Attractive female staff were often offered “free”holidays. She was invited to go skiing and told to choose anything from the shop as luggage. She refused and resigned ASAP.
People have known about AlFayed for years

Willow2017 · 05/03/2018 20:57

This isnt news, its been common knowledge for years!
Look at the way he letched over Diana! Made my skin crawl. But it was also known he was a letch at work too.

I am sure there are many many men in power who dont need to stoop to his level for any reason, and the new generation of business men are hopefully being raised by parents who teach them right from wrong in regards to women in the workplace.

Certainly women will be more empowered to tell these sleazeballs to fuck of in future as more airtime is given to cleaning up the showbizz and corporate worlds. We need to keep pushing the message that this isnt acceptable and women wont put up with it any longer.(I live in hope)

MsHarry · 05/03/2018 21:05

The Daily Mail is crap.

MsHarry · 05/03/2018 21:05

*at Harrods!

LucreziaBoredYa · 05/03/2018 21:05

I always thought Diana and Dodi were ridiculously in lurve, how could she have fallen for him if he was like his dad? She was, what? 36? Old enough to know?

Do hope, like pps have said that things are changing now. There's got to be an upside to these shady revelations.

BusyLizzy2018 · 05/03/2018 21:06

I've worked with a lot of powerful men. Most are not like this but some are and sadly those "some" try to try it on with everyone who is female for their whole 50 year careers whenever they get a chance so even just one of these men in one work place means an awful lot of women subject to these kinds of abuse of power. (Yet another reason to give most positions of power to women in my view)

MsHarry · 05/03/2018 21:07

Hurt , rejected princess flattered by charming, demonstrative, billionaire??
