What the fuck? Russian spy poisoned in Salisbury?!

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 05/03/2018 18:49

Name change Smile

So yesterday we went into town. As we were leaving we saw an air ambulance come down right where we were.

Got back to see that 2 people were taken ill, they thought drug related.

This morning, Salisbury A&E were shut down in a major incident, with up to 10 people contaminated by an unknown substance.

Several areas cordoned off in town.

This evening we find out that actually the man is a former Russian spy, and that poisoning is likely!

Jesus. Sleepy Salisbury.

So, DH has a hospital appointment tomorrow......would you go??

"What is it with all these dead Russian spies in the UK?"

Well when you're accustomed to operating in one of the most corrupt, dirty money ruled regimes on the planet but find you've upset someone and need to flee to somewhere equally morally bankrupt where you can launder your own dirty money, then the UK is the obvious destination.

Wasn't a spy poisoned with an umbrella dipped in something nasty on London Bridge?
Blackfriars Bridge I believe it was

UpstartCrow · 05/03/2018 19:35

This is easily as weird as the Bulgarian poisoned by an umbrella back in the 1970's.

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 05/03/2018 19:37

It's all very weird.

Plus we're jumpy lot with Porton Down so close.

I just keep thinking of The Americans. Anyone else?

dadshere · 05/03/2018 19:46

Lots of Russians with 'dirty-money' living here now. The smart ones don't bad-mouth Putin, the stupid ones go for a drink with his hired killers.....

MorningsEleven · 05/03/2018 19:46

It's very strange - one minute it's a bloke in a shelly getting high in a shopping centre and now it's Basildon Bond territory.

BeanFobbedOff · 05/03/2018 19:49

I was called in for for a check up as (it was thought at the time that very possibly) I may have been exposed to the polonium on a plane, and I was pregnant at the time.

Scary!

BeanFobbedOff · 05/03/2018 19:49

Not exposed, 'in the vicinity of'

MsHomeSlice · 05/03/2018 19:54

wasn't Blackfriars Bridge a suicide hanging of some banker chap?

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 05/03/2018 19:58

Bloody hell Bean, that is scary Shock

MorningsEleven · 05/03/2018 20:13

And then there was the bloke in the bag in his own bath.

drinkswineoutofamug · 05/03/2018 21:00

mornings is that the guy the secret service said killed himself and we don't know him 🤫

VanillaSugar · 05/03/2018 21:14

A group of high society entrepreneurs/ bankers all died in mysterious circumstances and the Russian Mafia connection was mooted but disputed. One of them was the fiancé of Noelle Reno (I think, but google her and go down the internet wormhole) - one man died in a particularly gruesome way but all were official “suicides”. It’s all very strange and TBH I wouldn’t rule out Russian involvement.

VanillaSugar · 05/03/2018 21:17

Sorry, just clicked on the buzzfeed article, so I have repeated it. Google Johnny E for further info Shock

MorningsEleven · 05/03/2018 21:21

drinkswineoutofamug

That's him. Gareth Williams who worked for intelligence services and managed to climb into a holdall in a bath without leaving any fingerprints. Nowt suspicious about that 🤔

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 05/03/2018 21:23

My parents in law live in Salisbury and MIL rang us up all excited, telling us to turn on the news.
Not quite what you expect in a sleepy little place like that. Presumably why an ex Russian spy was hiding there.

Graphista · 05/03/2018 21:27

There's still plenty of Cold War retirees around bearing grudges.

And trust me - porton down is the least of your worries round thereWink

RJnomore1 · 05/03/2018 21:29

I misread the news article earlier.

I thought he was poisoned in Sainsbury's

Blush
errorofjudgement · 05/03/2018 21:29

Wasn’t he spying for Britain and was imprisoned in Russia? I thought I read he was released as part of a spy trade off in return for America releasing some Russian spies.

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 05/03/2018 21:29

Yes, I noticed there were a lot of 'suicides' Hmm

Graphista - oh no, you can't leave me hanging like that?! What else do I need to worry about.....? Shock
