Waiting for an out of hours hospital appointment for ds, 7 weeks, who is pickled top to toe in an angry red rash. I just want to sleep

@mishfish no, nothing like it. Thankyou though.

I'm thinking it probably is a viral rash. I'm exhausted and going to grab some sleep. I'll see the doctor first thing in the morning. We could sleep anyway so I'll keep a check on him. Trying to get a better picture but my camera is rubbish.

Desperately need rest as I have my 13 month old to look after too tomorrow

That looks like a viral rash. D's is very prone to them.........in all honesty tho. As baby is so young it won t hurt to get him looked at if you need the reassurance.

Prusik · 05/03/2018 00:22

Ooh don't want to see him

mishfish that looks very much like a hives rash i get them from time to time nowt that a packet of piriton can't stop!, but not so sure about the babe if he was running anythng of a temperture then I'd be off to hospital over that.

thegreatbeyond · 05/03/2018 00:25

I would go to hospital with that rash. And the sunken fontanelle (dehydrated). And I'm pretty stoic.

PointlessUsername · 05/03/2018 00:27

I would take him to the hospital.

Not worth the risk

AjasLipstick · 05/03/2018 00:28

Another one who wouldn't wait op....I would get it seen tonight.

TattyTShirt · 05/03/2018 00:29

Have you done the glass test?

ohfourfoxache · 05/03/2018 00:32

I’m sorry, I know you don’t want to hear this, but I’d get him straight to hospital too. It just isn’t worth the risk

frasier · 05/03/2018 00:35

Are you saying the hospital don't want to see him?

mishfish · 05/03/2018 00:35

Your second pic is much clearer- it looks more pin prick like. I’d take him to A&E to be honest, I can’t imagine anyone ever regrets taking their children there, but the other way around may be different. Good luck!

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 05/03/2018 00:40

I wouldn’t wait until tomorrow either, thing can change quite quickly when they are that young.

Do the glass test, if the rash doesn’t fade and his skin is cold head straight to the hospital now.

Rockerfeller · 05/03/2018 00:44

Please go to A&E. The sunken fontanel would have me out the door in seconds but that rash is massive.

Please please don't take a risk

GrockleBocs · 05/03/2018 00:51

In an older child I'd be thinking viral rash. It probably is but I'd hate to be the unqualified random on the internet who dissuaded you from checking!

PrincessPeach08 · 05/03/2018 01:01

Go to A & E. My ds was unwell last week, he's cutting his top back teeth atm. He'd been sore for a few days and I was alternating between Calpol & Nurofen, on Wed evening he really took a turn and wouldn't settle at all, I rang out of hours as I just felt something wasnt right. I was waiting on a call back and was changing his nappy when I noticed he had developed a similar rash to your little ones all over his legs, tummy and bottom. Then he took what I have since been told by the doctor, was a febrile seizure as his temperature spiked. They said it was actually lucky he had already been getting the Nurofen and Calpol or his temp could have went even higher. Got him straight to A & E who were fantastic and told me that he actually had tonsilitis. The rash was caused by his body reacting to the infection. So if I were you I'd be on the safe side especially with a 7 week old who can't tell you what's wrong with them. Hopefully everything's ok and its nothing to worry about but personally I wouldn't take the risk

OkPedro · 05/03/2018 01:07

I second doing the glass test

My ds had broncilitis at 7 weeks
The nurse in a&e gave out to me for not bringing him in sooner Blush

A baby a young as yours can get very sick in a short space of time

Good luck Flowers

AnnieAnoniMouse · 05/03/2018 01:10

Peach my brother used to have febrile convulsions when he was a baby, I was 4 when he had the first ones & still remember the ambulance officers running into the house and literally throwing him into a bath of cold water, it was so scary. (Not what they advise these days) He’s a strapping 6’ 4” bloke, built like a brick outhouse these days. Hope your DS is better soon.

Bowerbird5 · 05/03/2018 01:14

Who is making you wait for the appointment? An unqualified receptionist? At the very least ring 111.
A young baby with a rash, sunken fontanelle this combination is concerning. If you ring 111 they may send a paramedic out. I would be seeking medical help. Even if it is a viral rash a high temperature can cause febrile convulsions.

PrincessPeach08 · 05/03/2018 01:18

Thank you @Annie, it was absolutely terrifying, that must have been so awful for you to witness as a child. He seems to be on the mend now thankfully Smile

AdidasGirl · 05/03/2018 01:18

I would be straight to A&E.
I wouldn't care how knackered I was, or was going to be the next day.A rash like that could be anything and I know I wouldn't be able to rest until my DC had been seen.
Good luck.

nocoolnamesleft · 05/03/2018 01:19

I'm rather surprised that they didn't give you an out of hours appt. Only an idiot tries to assess a 7 week old baby over the phone. I'm afraid that I would suggest A&E. If this was a toddler, then yes, GP tomorrow would make sense. For a baby that young? Like fuck.

If you're awake, please go to A&E.

Prusik · 05/03/2018 01:19

I've done the glass test several times over the course of the day and it does blanch.

OP posts:
Italiangreyhound · 05/03/2018 01:24

I would go to A and E.

Prusik · 05/03/2018 01:29

I'm going to feed him and go up now. He just freaked out when I shone my light from my phone on his face. I've turned all the lights on now but he's got his eyes closed so wouldn't know. He's currently feeding so that's good

Sat in the waiting room now. Glad I came but can't quite believe I have to be up with ds1 in about four hours
