To not feed my cat today?

"D"Cat managed, overnight, to get into a cupboard and completely shred, and eat the contents of, eight cat food sachets. Twat. Was a hell of a mess to clean up AIBU to think that's more than enough and he doesn't deserve need food today?

Oh man, cheeky little monkey Grin I've never had a cat so don't know how much they eat but surely it will be too pogged to fit anything else in?

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 14:35

He seems to want food! He's a small cat usually gets 2-3 whiskas pouches a day - vet says he's a little in danger of going overweight! I do love him, just not right now Grin

I'd give him a tiny bit. Maybe one pouch spread across the day.

Whiskas is like crack to mine. They'd be screaming for it and wolf it down, 1/2hr later they'd be at it again. They are not allowed it!

Mine have Wainwrights from pets at home. It has a higher protein content so fills them up for longer. Well that's the plan except Dcat1 doesn't like it so goes next door to the elderly couple who feed her..... feckin Whiskas! I've asked them not to but they obviously can't ignore the wailing for food.

DCat1 looks like a rugby ball on legs and farts a lot.

DalekDalekDalek · 04/03/2018 14:54

My cat did this once, managed to break open the box and shred the sachets all in the space of about an hour. I gave her dry food instead that day which wasn't her favourite at the time. I also learned a lesson in storing cat for in plastic boxes instead.

He won't starve for one day, maybe give him a little food later in the day.

Shedmicehugh · 04/03/2018 14:54

I tried switching cat food, cat had none of it and I got a dead mouse on my foot.

If hungry feed him!!!!!

Beamur · 04/03/2018 14:55

If you don't feed him, he will wear you down with asking! I am surprised he still wants food after all that though.
I don't usually feed my cats whiskas either, but it was all I could pick up nearby when the roads were snowy last week. My cats hoovered it up..
Feed him and let him sleep off his gluttony!!

MrMeSeeks · 04/03/2018 14:56

Mine do not have whiskas, very low meat content, and were constantly hungry.

PhelanThePain · 04/03/2018 14:57

You know he’s going to shit in your slipper? Grin all that cat food has to go somewhere.

Imbluedabadee · 04/03/2018 14:58

Sorry but that's really funny! This is the reason we only buy tins for bluecat Grin

BeeFarseer · 04/03/2018 14:59

Mine have both done this. I'll quite happily not feed them until later in the day. They aren't so happy, but... tough titties, naughty kitties. Grin

RainbowGlitterFairy · 04/03/2018 15:05

this is why my cats aren't allowed pouches anymore and their biscuits go in a plastic cereal tub, as does the dogs coz they aren't above pinching that.

Don't feed him til at least this evening, but do feed him before you go to bed or you'll get no sleep.

Flomy · 04/03/2018 15:07

DCat needs high protein biscuits!

Pouches are watery bits.

My Dcat has 1 pouch a day and 40g of Applaws biscuits.

Cheap as chips.

Tink2007 · 04/03/2018 15:12

We have four cats and all four will bloody do this given the opportunity. Drives me mad.

Beamur · 04/03/2018 15:14

Mine get dry food and a couple of sachets a day. They like their dry food, I usually feed them James Wellbeloved but am trying The own brand alternative from the pet shop which they don't like quite as much. Dry food does seem more filling and satisfying.

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/03/2018 15:29

Whiskas is a bit like kitty junk food... Mine would love it but my boy gets horrendous diarrhoea so as much as he loves it he can't have it.

Do consider switching to a good quality dry food - much better for their teeth, and seems to reduce the "OMG I'm starving" episodes!

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 15:41

He needs wet food because of recurring cystitis!

And whiskas was on offer and all that was available thanks to the blizzard Grin

What's a better wet food?

I put dried food in a plastic container. Cats knocked it down and broke it open. They'll chew through the packets if we don't transfer them.

The DCats are both on Royal Canin now. One pouch each a day plus dried food.

Unfortunately one is a grazer and one is a eat everything he can see. The latter is getting fat. Fatter. He's the only fat cat I've had in 37 years of living with cats. The extra protein content doesn't seem to be filling him up.

Elfintreehuggywugger · 04/03/2018 15:50

Does he need worming?

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 15:51

Elfin I don't believe so?

My cats were like tiny, furry drug addicts on these pouches!! I bought two massive boxes of them and they used to sit on top of the boxes crying and trying to dig their way into the box..... Had to change their food eventually.

Sneaky - we need a picture of the junkie cat! Just to see how guilty he is!
