"D"Cat managed, overnight, to get into a cupboard and completely shred, and eat the contents of, eight cat food sachets. Twat. Was a hell of a mess to clean up AIBU to think that's more than enough and he doesn't deserve need food today?

Blimey! All this badly behaved cats! Makes mine seem positively angelic. She's never helped herself to cat food, not even the dry stuff which is sat within her sight on the kitchen work top. She'd only have to jump up and knock it to the floor to access the contents. On the other hand, she HAS helped herself to food that was meant for human consumption, including a raw chicken breast that had been left to defrost on the work top. She didn't get very far with it as it was still half frozen. She's also scoffed a whole tin of tuna that my DD left opened,by the draining board while she went out of the kitchen for 10 minutes.

JamPasty · 04/03/2018 16:41

Much-missed PastyCat once stole someone's Sunday roast joint....

MrMeSeeks · 04/03/2018 16:54

Wet food, applaws, even
Sainburys do a an ok wetfood, they've rebranded it so i can't think of the name.
Look on the back of the pouches, majority of the supermarket ones are 15-20% meat or meat derivatives. Until we changed the cats were constantly hungry.
We give them tinned fish too.

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 17:01

No thyroid issues that I'm aware of - what % meat do I need?

Please see attached recent photo of said bugger Grin

Awwww I do love a cat photo thread ❤️

I buy whatever food is on special! Felix or Whiskers. Mine have the pouches and dry food. Occasionally human stolen food! Odd mouse!

Checklist · 04/03/2018 17:08

We came down once to 13 half chewed open pouches, scattered around downstairs. BrotherCat, ever the more greedy of the two, could not eat any breakfast....whereas SisterCat ate her's as usual!

My 3 Muppets would do that given half a chance I have to block the cupboard or they would just eat all the food while I'm asleep sneakybastards

Elfintreehuggywugger · 04/03/2018 17:56

gremlins just thought I’d ask as our cat was eating like a greedy bastard (ate a whole roast chicken while we were sleeping - my bad) and it turned out he just needed some working tablets.

MrMeSeeks · 04/03/2018 18:22

I do second getting thyroid checked incase! Sometimes it's not always obvious!
Ours eat sainsburys wet pouches,
over 50%% meat content ( no derivatives ( the best of the supermarkets, i've checked), but reasonably priced.
And some applaws which is over 80%, but not all the time.
They also get tinned fish.
Dry food, right now the one has royal canin older indoor cats, ( amazon) and the other greenwoods, but they used to like james wellbeloved and they go mad for this new one dry food, wild freedom when i can get it.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/03/2018 18:29

I have a similar cat - he is also a sod and will go into the box if he has access to it - we have to hide it in the top cupboard

he's not ill he's just a pig - and he refuses dry food - all 3 of my other cats have only dry food - he is just an awkward git

Babdoc · 04/03/2018 18:31

Dd1’s cat opens their fridge and pulls out chicken portions. They actually had to fit a childproof lock on it, despite having no kids!
The cat is smart enough to realise what the lock is for, and tries to stop them re-attaching it when they’ve opened the fridge! Scary. Fortunately my own cat is nice but dim...

Ollivander84 · 04/03/2018 18:43

Better wet stuff includes (try zooplus and pets at home, or fetch online)

Lily's kitchen
Applaws (isn't always complete food though but think the pate is)
Natures menu
Butchers classic
Core wellness
Taste of the wild
Wild freedom
Animonda carny
Bozita

ToadOfSadness · 04/03/2018 18:44

If you are looking for good quality, high meat content, take a look on Zooplus, Floyds Pfotenshop (if you don't mind ordering from Germany where the quality is better) or the Happy Kitty Company.Animonda, Grau, Om Nom Nom are good, if you are buying from Pets Corner or Pets at Home , Natures Menu is good, and most of the Pets Corner ones are high quality.

Dry food is basically just carbs, cats are not designed for a high carb diet.

Ollivander84 · 04/03/2018 18:45

MrMe - mine is obsessed with that wild freedom dry! He is preferring it over roast chicken Shock

HappenstanceMarmite · 04/03/2018 18:59

Archie has Arden Grange dry food on tap. And half a sachet of Applaws Tuna with Sea Bream or Anchovies in the evening. Not interested in anything else apart from a bit of a Walls sausage occasionally (no other brand FF)S

But, poor you OP. I can only imagine what sights and smells are going to greet you from the litter box later... 😱

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 19:08

Hope they aren't too expensive Shock

SneakyGremlins
We used to order dry food from zooplus, but got double the quantity from amazon.
Zooplus is def cheaper for applaws and lilyskitchen though.
Right now ( or they did) have samples of some of the dry foods,
Royal canin, james wellbeloved and wild freedom.

MrMeSeeks · 04/03/2018 19:26

Encore is also the same as applaws, except you can buy it from the supermarkets.

SneakyGremlins · 04/03/2018 20:11

Thankyou!

Little cunt has just knocked off the worktop and torn open a 2KG bag of oats

I have a cat like that, he is more interested in chewing things open, than cat food!

He chewed a hole in my son’s birthday cake box today! He tries to chew into the chicken pellet bag! The bread! Nothing can be left out for longer than a few minutes!

If money is tight, I would go with 1 decent pouch a day & high protein biscuits.

I spend £12 on 44 wet pouches - lasts 44 days & about £14 on dry food, that lasts at least 3 months.

So its probably costing me less than £10 a month I suppose.
