To scrape leftover pasta bake back into the dish to eat later

So DP and I are on a tight budget this month. To save money I cooked a massive pasta bake but was rather too generous with the portion sizes for DS and DDs lunch. To not waste good food I scraped their leftovers back into the pasta dish to freeze for later. Kids saw me doing this and have accused me of being a minger. Am I or are they BU...

If it was just for me and it was my food originally then yes but i wouldn't do this with other people's food and especially not coming from several different plates

Therunecaster · 04/03/2018 15:17

Thanks for all the views. I've mixed all the leftovers in with the remaining pasta bake, topped with cheese and baked for 15 mins. I think this will kill off any germs. I will serve it up next week when the kids have forgotten about the plate scraping.
Anyone want to come for tea???SmileGrin

Ugh, no

dementedpixie · 04/03/2018 15:21

So you've now recooked it and are going to cook it again another day after freezing it? Sounds even worse now and I wouldn't want it!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 04/03/2018 15:23

Following your logic OP, you'd be happy with anyone spitting on your food as long as it gets heated after?

Happy to eat soup the waiter spat in, as long as it's hot enough?

Therunecaster · 04/03/2018 15:26

No-one spat in the pasta bake Peanut...TBH I'm sure Ive eaten worse unknowingly.

I'm assuming that the pasta that got forked was eaten. I doubt the kids mixed the pasta up with their salivary forks then just left it. Even if there is some saliva transferance it would be tiny, tiny amounts of it, they're people not St Bernards, and they're you're own children. I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

halfwitpicker · 04/03/2018 15:33

I don't see a problem with this.

AnimalBrain · 04/03/2018 15:34

That’s disgusting

TerfsUp · 04/03/2018 15:35

If not, think WHY not

Because the OP is not running a restaurant.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/03/2018 15:36

Jeez no, bleurgh

SilverySurfer · 04/03/2018 15:37

I'm quite relaxed about certain things, like still eating stuff if it's a few days over best by date if it smells ok but to scrape the food off of several plates, mix it up, recook and then freeze it is beyond minging. I feel sick just thinking about it. I dislike pasta anyway but even if I liked it, as a member of your family I would be giving pasta bake in the near future a wide berth.

Always best to serve less and have seconds if wanted.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 04/03/2018 15:37

Lots of saliva now mixed in everyone's food. Fucking grim.

LadyChatterlysLoofah · 04/03/2018 15:39

Gross Shock Why not put in individual named dishes/boxes for later?

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2018 15:40

Scraping leftover food off different people's plates to eat later? That actually turns my stomach. Sorry if that offends.

Any leftovers on plates here go to the dogs, they don't mind.

FuckyNellYaBastad · 04/03/2018 15:41

I am all sorts of minging but I wouldn’t do this

dustarr73 · 04/03/2018 15:44

You really think your kids will have forgotten next week.Ugh.that makes me feel ill.

mynameisLuca · 04/03/2018 15:44

Would you be happy if a restaurant served you reheated scraps of diners' plates?

I wouldn't be happy if a restaurant did a hundred things I would happily do myself, so this is hardly a standard to live up to.

BowiesJumper · 04/03/2018 15:46

They’re all related! It’s not some random plates from a restaurant. It’s FINE.

Zoflorabore · 04/03/2018 15:47

You do know that this will never get eaten op? Grin

I thought you meant usual leftovers as in still in the dish.

I would not do this. Each to their own.

Maybe not one to whip out for others who are u aware of the pasta dish's dubious origin

Zoflorabore · 04/03/2018 15:47

unaware... rather

YearOfYouRemember · 04/03/2018 15:50

That's pretty awful. If things are that tight, I'll send you a bag of pasta that you can have saliva free.

Oysterbabe · 04/03/2018 15:51

Kids: I can't eat that!! I might eat something that has touched something that has been in your mouth eeeeeeeeewwwwwww!
Me: You used to live inside of me

Lethaldrizzle · 04/03/2018 15:52

I was brought up like this. It may be grim to some of you but I have an awesome immune system!! Never seen anyone spitting in their food either. Don't know what kind of table manners you lot have!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 04/03/2018 15:53

I thought you meant the leftovers in the dish too, OP.

I hate food waste and always use leftovers, but no, I wouldn't scrape food from individual plates. But if you are fine with it, then just eat it for lunch yourself!
