First date and he's literally sat in silence

Oh dear. I'm on a first date with someone I met on POF. He seemed interested at first but now he just have decided he doesn't want a second date as he's pretty much say in silence. I've asked him a million questions and he responds but doesn't ask me anything back. I've just popped to the loo as I've been say in silence a minute too long. We met at 8pm. AIBU if I say I have to get home now and bring this to a very swift close? I feel bad as he's still got half a glass of beer he's not have touched for half an hour.

I'm going to need a glass of wine at home after this!

You've learned a lesson at least! Three strikes (of him not asking you a question) and he's out!

Hate it when there is no chemistry. When I was OLD, I met up with this one guy for coffee. I was five mins early so already seated and he came over. He was clearly about 10 years older than his profile pic. Anyhow, his body language was so dismissive. Leaning back in his chair, legs crossed away from me and never looked at me once. Plus all he did was talk about himself Grin I got out of there ASAP!

Navrat, I had a date like this once. Take some comfort that it could be worse. Two excruciatingly uncomfortable hours sitting at a pub trying to make a beer last and make all conversation myself while he just sat there staring at me and answering in monosyllables. When I finally went home feeling eternally grateful that the suffering was over I got a text from him: "Would you like to meet again tomorrow?". Oh the horror! I replied with a very polite: "Thank you, however I believe we are not very compatible and would not want to waste your time". Shortly after I get another text from him: "Okay, how about just meeting for sex?". I stopped answering.

aurynne I had a similar thing some years ago. He was oh so boring and dragged out the coffee meeting until I was beyond bored-witless. Because I knew people working at the restaurant and knew they would cover for me, I went to the loo, then snuck into the kitchen and out the back (delivery) door into the laneway that lead to the street, got in my car and drove home. Going through the kitchen I saw one of the staff I knew and asked them to give me 10 minutes to escape then tell the slow coffee drinker at table xxx that I had to rush away.

Just couldn't face sitting there any longer, looking at everything but each other and with absolutely zero conversation. He emailed a week later wanting to 'do it all again' but fortunately I was 'working' that weekend. Hahaha!!

Ordinarily I wouldn't be so rude, but this one just took the cake and I couldn't face him any longer.

I had a first date like that once. He is now my DP!

Basically, we got on amazingly online but when we met up it was really akward. I am shy but he couldn't even look me in the eye! Awful. Lots of awkward silences. He messaged me the next day apologising and we got chatting, and again, got on amazingly online. Gave him the benefit of the doubt and next date went bowling so not so much pressure to talk.

Neither of us knew at the time but he has Asperger's. Have been togeyher 7 yrs and have a 4 yr old DD.

I think this subject deserves its own thread, great stories to be read. I for one could write a book based on my experiences.

From what you've posted I think the chap doesn't deserve all this negativity
Clearly he felt the same about you, as you felt about him...yet manners prevented him from cutting you short and leaving early plus he waited until you were safely in your taxi.

Maybe he's no talker but possibly a gentleman.
