To think that doing yoga in a public place is just attention seeking?

Several times this year I've seen people crack out a mat in the middle of a public place and start doing yoga.
When I say public place, I'm not talking about a park or a beach, but an airport, bus station and a waiting room.
It seems to be a trend on Instagram too, the culprit usually kitted it in something very reveaking.
I love yoga and it's great for being a "portable" exercise but AIBU in thinking that doing it in a place where you stand out is just showing off, and is a little bit wanky?

Wanky

Actually "wan" is what the ancient Chinese called the swastika used in Buddhist art and scripture is known as a manji (Japanese; whirlwind), and represents Dharma, universal harmony, and the balance of opposites.

In China, it is called wan.

It is derived from the Hindu religious swastika, but it is not identical in meaning. Round Manji The Manji is made up of several elements: a vertical axis representing the joining of heaven and earth, a horizontal axis representing the connection of yin and yang, and the four arms, representing movement- the whirling force created by the interaction of these elements.

When facing left, it is the Omote (front facing) Manji, representing love and mercy. Facing right, it represents strength and intelligence, and is called the Ura (rear facing) Manji. In Zen Buddhism, the Manji represents an ideal harmony between love and intellect.

And of course - ky

I took this to mean "chi" - the vital energy force.

I wish I was young, fit, slim and could get up without a hangover to do yoga at 6am during my summer holiday

You don't have to be young, fit or slim to do it! See video of Indian PM I posted earlier!! He doesn't drink though.

Its perfectly possible to breathe through a Warrior I, Warrior II and/or Warrior III in the aisle of a standard 747. Of course only when the seat belts signs are not on. I try to avoid the meal service if possible. Remember the pose begins when you want to leave it. Namaste.

“ I try to avoid the meal service if possible”

If possible? Does that mean that you would perform Yoga in the aisle if it suited you to do so? Regardless of the Meal Service being on? I cant think of any legitimate reason why it wouldnt be ‘possible’ to avoid the meal service! Hmm

What about the other passengers? Does their comfort not matter? Maybe they do t want your elbows in their face, or feet, or any other body part for that matter!!! Your ‘inner peace’ is not more important than being aware of how your actions impose upon others!!

Well, this thread has convinced me that overtly public Yoga is even more Wanky than I believed it to be!! I cannot believe there are folks here justifying doing flaming Yoga in the aisle of the aircraft! How unbelievably self absorbed could you possibly get??? Confused

One of my favourite Instagram accounts is called passengershaming - your one stop shop for people being awful dicks on aircraft.

Needless to say, the hashtag #galleyyoga is a thing Grin

A new category of passengers being a PITA for fellow passengers and plane crew!

LadyMcLadyCrisps · 05/03/2018 12:16

HeyRoly thanks! Going to check that out! Grin

I would encourage a period of fasting for the duration of the flight to be honest. Your breath is your soul. Your practice is your sustenance.

Join your fellow travellers in a moment of quiet meditation. Untether your soul and become one with aircraft soaring free, free, free

Untether your soul and become one with aircraft soaring free, free, free

The beauty of that sentence has touched me deeply
We are not our bodies...." We are OUR SOULS! "

I will exclaim this with total joy to anyone judging me for practising yoga in a busy public space. Who's with me?

Well I think you know where I stand. Or is that balance? or is that float?
