To think that doing yoga in a public place is just attention seeking?

Several times this year I've seen people crack out a mat in the middle of a public place and start doing yoga.
When I say public place, I'm not talking about a park or a beach, but an airport, bus station and a waiting room.
It seems to be a trend on Instagram too, the culprit usually kitted it in something very reveaking.
I love yoga and it's great for being a "portable" exercise but AIBU in thinking that doing it in a place where you stand out is just showing off, and is a little bit wanky?

Hard to say. In an airport there are nearly always quiet corners where you could roll out a mat rather than bang in the middle of the concourse, so maybe they're being attention seeking. But I wouldn't look much at them, and their bodies will benefit massively from the stretching before or after a flight. Rather that than a shrinking violet with deep vein thrombosis!

I have often wished there was a room at airports where you could go to do a few stretches etc but no way would I do it in the main concourse or in a plane.

Yep looks totally ridiculous and I practice yoga daily!! Maybe it's envy on my part wishing I had the confidence (and the toned body) to do it in public.

I've only seen this once. It was a couple. They were definitely wanky and complete exhibitionists. They kept looking round to see if anyone was watching!

Ha, super wanky. But great for giving everyone a laugh (or a perv I guess, eww). However if you are that much of an attention whore then a few people sniggering at your wankyness isn't going to be offputting!

I mean I suddenly broke out into the chain cha slide queuing at the post office because all of a sudden the spirit of DJ Casper's funky tunes came upon me, I'd be grooving for myself, not anyone else, but would still look like a wanker. A wanker with incredible moves, but a wanker none the less.

Oh I've seen a woman doing yoga in Gordon Square! Don't think there's anything wrong with it but I really struggle going any period of time without a stretch.

@LaurieFairyCake - have a look at paddle board yoga if you fancy upping the ante! I tried that in Crete last year, it was fun.

When people do it public spaces in India - they're not doing it in skimpy skin tight clothes.

MN is so contradictory. A few months ago there was a thread about a woman doing hula hoop dancing on the School run and the OP was flamed for calling it attention seeking.

Everyone posted saying how refreshing and lovely it was.

I never do yoga except in petrol stations where I make up some poses. Long journeys necessitate this.
