I flew to Newcastle from Bristol on Tuesday and was meant to return on Thurs (I live in Plymouth). Flight was cancelled and rebooked for today, cancelled again! I got on a train in Newcastle this morning, got as far as Birmingham and they kicked us off! No trains running south today and not even looking good tomorrow!

I miss my DH, I miss my house, I miss my cat! AIBU to either cry or stamp my feet or get really pissed!! I JUST WANT TO GET HOME!

Devon is a disaster at the moment OP. I live south of the Haldon Hills and work in Exeter. I drove over late on Tuesday to stay with a friend and avoid the icy storms on Wednesday. I only got home this evening after spending three nights near work. I couldn't take the train because of the Dawlish track problem and Telegraph Hill was closed. Finally there was a window of opportunity this afternoon and I drove almost all the way home. The car is parked at the bottom of the hill. It is so nice to be home! I hope you get back soon.

Plymouth has pretty much ground to a halt. Kids loving their first ever snow days though. Driving on the hills covered with ice has been interesting. I can’t remember full on blizzards here before. Makes a change from the usual rain! Best of luck for your journey home.

WinterRose92 · 02/03/2018 19:57

SlideAway82 It looked quite beautiful here but I'm a community care worker, I do home visits, was working Wednesday and it was a bit scary getting around but okay! Luckily haven't been out there the last two days, feel sorry for the ones who have!
Hope you're enjoying all the hotel has to offer!

LouHotel · 02/03/2018 19:59

Haldon Hill is a nightmare and Dawlish down.

I geniunly wouldnt ask anyone to drive to exeter for you.

Dawlish is only flooded not destroyed so fingers crossed for you tomorrow OP.

DH is also stuck in Birmingham.
Went to Manchester on the train yesterday, but could only get as far as Birmingham on the way home. I am happy he is safe and warm, and currently scoffing curry. Who knows when I will see him again.

mikeyssister · 02/03/2018 20:03

@WeAllHaveWings your friend is lucky. There's loads of people in the airport who can't get a hotel room.

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 20:11

Thank you Lou - my dad has a 4 x 4 so I'm hoping this could be sufficient to get to Exeter but obviously if it's too dangerous I won't let him do it. Unfortunately road is my only way home!

I'm a bit weird but I would actually love this. As long as it ended at some point!

Me too and all paid for.

Tr1skel1on · 02/03/2018 20:20

My DH is currently stuck after 2 days of cancelled flights. I might see him tomorrow, who knows.... then he is away again next week on business! at this rate he won't be home before he has to leave again

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/03/2018 20:26

Plymouth is basically a no go zone atm! I’m currently stuck in cornwall and wanting to get back to Exeter but am going to wait till Sunday as I’ve just been hearing about car pile ups and crashes everywhere.

MsHarry · 02/03/2018 20:27

That's a bummer. But, you are lucky to be warm, with food and cocktails at your disposal and not out of pocket. Time for big girl pants I'm afraid, there are many FAR worse off. Knock back a few more and cosy up in bed with the TV.

MsHarry · 02/03/2018 20:31

I'm due to see Elbow at Birmingham tomorrow, I bet it will be cancelled! Grrrrr!

sparklepops123 · 02/03/2018 20:49

I'm up Yorkshire and sounds like your gettin what we had , if you are expect two full days of disruption. Sorry !

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 20:52

Completely agree MsHarry! You basically said exactly what my DH said. In other words 'Man up......haha!

In other news Birmingham appear to running to Plymouth after 11am so keep everything crossed for me!

I once was away for work for 5 days, then there was major flooding. I was stuck for 3 extra days. I hated it. All I wanted was my home and my babies (maybe dp a little). I can fully understand.

Almostfifty · 03/03/2018 20:51

Hope you've got home. My DH isn't going to get back this weekend. Still, it's only one weekend.

LanguidLobster · 03/03/2018 21:46

Are you home yet OP?
