I've been trying to get home for 3 days!

I flew to Newcastle from Bristol on Tuesday and was meant to return on Thurs (I live in Plymouth). Flight was cancelled and rebooked for today, cancelled again! I got on a train in Newcastle this morning, got as far as Birmingham and they kicked us off! No trains running south today and not even looking good tomorrow!

I miss my DH, I miss my house, I miss my cat! AIBU to either cry or stamp my feet or get really pissed!! I JUST WANT TO GET HOME!

A lot of people have said this Baby! I'm generally fine with my own company but I think it's just the uncertainty that makes me feel unsettled. Although the cocktails are helping....

My DH has been away for a few days and is supposed to be flying into Birmingham tonight (should have landed about half an hour ago) but according to the flight checker, the plane got as far as London and has been re-diverted back to where he came from! So no idea when he'll be home either :( Hope you get home soon Op.

Blackteadrinker77 · 02/03/2018 19:10

@babymamamama If you regularly work away from home (as I do) you can't wait to get back home to your own bed and your family.

As a one off it's fine, if it just extends the time away from home it's awful. Think like being stranded in an air port at the end of your holiday when you are worn out.

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 19:11

Thanks Forlorn! My fingers are crossed for your DH to be home soon too. The snow is pretty heavy here so probably the reason. There was literally no snow at all when I arrived - I swear it's following me down the country just to piss me off!

@forlornwanderer

I hope he gets home soon Flowers

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 19:13

I agree Blacktea. Im also away almost every week and if I knew I'd be away this long I'd be mentally prepared (and would've packed more pants ha!) but it's just dragging now and I have feck all to do!

But ya know what.....I'm warm, I'm safe, I'm fed. So I can't complain at all really. There's folks that have it much much worse.

I feel for you. I would want to be home by now too. Just to say I would leave your car at Bristol for the time being. Roads here are not good, and the airport always cops the bad weather, hence all the delays and cancellations. More snow forecast this evening too, so I would go straight home if you can and dont even think about collecting your car and driving.

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 19:18

That's defo the plan Tumpy - I'm a nervous driver at the best of times so Plan A is just to get to Plymouth. Somehow!

and would've packed more pants ha!
Funnily enough I was just thinking about my DH and how he will have only packed enough underwear for the days he was supposed to be away! He's travelling with work too, so at least they should pick up the tab.
I did hear on the travel news earlier the weather was worse the further down the M5 you went... hopefully they'll carry on ploughing and you can get back tomorrow.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 19:20

It’s crap when you want to be home, but at least you’re not one of the many stuck on a bus, train or in a car overnight. You’re warm, comfortable, have food and even more importantly, Mumsnet!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 19:21

Cross posted 🙈😂

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/03/2018 19:22

You could make this into a script. Call it planes, trains and automobiles maybe? Im thinking Steve Martin as part of the cast......

rainbowruthie · 02/03/2018 19:22

Really hope you get home soon

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 19:23

You guys are definitely helping! My hotel restaurant is full of couples so I don't look as much of a loner by chatting here!

Judas - I've literally covered every mode! Apart from boat - can I sail home? Hmmm.......

Thank you rainbow! Keep everything crossed for tomorrow!

I'm near Birmingham, it's a bit crazy at the moment but looks to be stopping tomorrow lunchtime, so hopefully you'll be back down sarfff by the end of the day.

If you feel like a walk and making your dh jealous, the alchemist does some lovely cocktails!

Pinkfrangipani · 02/03/2018 19:31

Is there a spa OP? Get a morning massage/facial booked in!

GinisLife · 02/03/2018 19:34

I'm supposed to be going from north of Birmingham to Bristol airport tomorrow to catch a flight. I'm fully expecting the flight to be cancelled but I'd happily take you to get your car if we do go

Middleoftheroad · 02/03/2018 19:35

OP my nephew was stuck for a while on a train from Brum to Bristol yesterday and a couple were cancelled. Hope you can make it as the weather here in Birmingham is getting worse

JaneEyre70 · 02/03/2018 19:38

It's easing off here in North Gloucestershire if that helps. Watching the news earlier, I think it was Dawlish where the train line had been damaged by the sea but you should be OK to Exeter and think the M5 is passable down to there as well but not any further. It should be clear by Sunday though that's a bit crap for you.

WinterRose92 · 02/03/2018 19:41

Oh god, that's shit, SlideAway92! Hope you're alright. I live in Plymouth, too, it's not too bad here now, most of the snow has melted away, I think it's over down here. Hope it eases where you are and you get home soon, I would hate it, too!

WinterRose92 · 02/03/2018 19:45

Shit, sorry - SlideAway82! Ha ha!

sallyandherarmy · 02/03/2018 19:46

Not homeless sleeping in a shop door way then.

All good.

SlideAway82 · 02/03/2018 19:47

Awww Gin - that is such a lovely offer, thank you! Yeah the sea wall in Dawlish has gone again Jane which is preventing anything getting past Exeter.

Gutted I haven't seen any of the Plymouth snow Winter!
