To ask you to come and tell me of your good service energy companies - I NEED to switch.

Currently with bloody utilita and hate them.

Want to switch to a "normal" direct debit service (no financial issues with that it was previous tenant used utilita).

I was with sse before, they weren't great but nowhere near as bad as utilita. So I shall speak to them.

I'm not saying I'm made of money but good service is definitely a factor - the switching sites go PURELY on cost so what I'm planning to do is a sort of cross reference recommendations from you guys on service with the cost side of things.

I don't see the point of going with the cheapest supplier if their customer service is awful.

Mn seems to be really good for this type of thing so hoping you lot will help.

Martin Lewis has an “energy club” where you can do a price comparison which also includes customer satisfaction

Graphista · 02/03/2018 18:41

Thanks I love mse but thought that was cost only too

I use Bulb and they have been fantastic.

If you go with them, I can give you a code that gives you (and me) a £50 credit on your account too!

nocake · 02/03/2018 18:43

I'm with OVO, who are good. I was previously with Good Energy who had good customer service but their bills were hard to understand.

Graphista · 02/03/2018 18:43

Never heard of them. Must admit (perhaps age) I think I would prefer to use a company that I've heard of.

FloydOnThePull · 02/03/2018 18:45

I'm with Ovo and I've found their customer service fantastic and it's dead easy to manage your account online (I promise I don't work for Ovo!)

BangBangPurple · 02/03/2018 18:46

Bulb are a relatively new company but what I like about them is that there's just one tariff so it's easy to understand your bill, and you're not tied into a contract like with other suppliers so you can switch at any time without fees.

BobLoblawLawBlog · 02/03/2018 18:47

I just came on to say Ovo too. Customer service been very good and their pricing v competitive as well. They're really popular in my area- lots of people have switched in the last few years.

iklboo · 02/03/2018 18:48

Another Ovo customer here. Easiest we've ever been with.

Malbecfan · 02/03/2018 18:48

Another Ovo fan here. The thing that swung it for me is the fact that they pay interest on credit balances; 3% for the first year (maybe 2), we are on 5%.

The call centre is in Bristol and the staff have always been lovely to deal with.

RatOnnaStick · 02/03/2018 18:49

I'm with Octopus through the MSE energy club. They have been excellent so far.

KipperBalloon · 02/03/2018 18:50

Avoid E.On like the plague!!!

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/03/2018 18:50

Bulb and they are fabulous, green and cheap.

Bluelady · 02/03/2018 18:50

Apparently ecotricity are brilliant.

CPtart · 02/03/2018 18:52

Iresa. Also pay interest on credit balances. Our current deal has just come to an end and in shopping round their new product is still have cheapest deal for us (North West). Managed online. No exit fees.

MaireadMacSweeney · 02/03/2018 18:52

I deal with energy companies at work and we only use the well known ones.

Customer service-wise Eon and SSE seem to be the best - personally I've been with Eon for years and am happy with their service. I know I'm lucky enough to not have to use the cheapest as good service is really important to me.

nocake · 02/03/2018 18:58

The worst I've ever dealt with are British Gas. TBH most of the big companies get poor customer service ratings compared to the smaller companies.

misskatamari · 02/03/2018 19:01

We've recently moved to bulb and are happy with them. We'd previously been with Npower for years and have had endless problems with them and awful customer service so I definitely would not recommend them!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/03/2018 19:02

Just my humble opinion but in my recent experience:

  • they are all shit.
  • switching is a FUCKING NIGHTMARE
millymae · 02/03/2018 19:04

I've been with Scottish Power for several years now and have had absolutely no problems with them at all. The switch to them was straightforward, the app works and each time it's shown me that I can save a bit of money by switching tariffs I've done it and never had cause to regret it. Being an all electric house I do keep a fairly close eye on what I'm being charged and always choose a tariff were I don't have to pay to leave a contract early in case I find another company that is better. I haven't so far!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/03/2018 19:04

Eon took over my neighbour's gas supply by accident and kept trying to blame Scottish Power!

Scottish Power's call centre waiting times are usually over an hour.

Mascarponeandwine · 02/03/2018 19:13

Ovo. I switched based on the Martin Lewis recommendation after Scottish power continually fucked up my account. It’s brilliant, no stress of knowing that my actual readings won’t ever be applied to my account and I’ll never know what my true balance is.
To be fair, Scottish power gave me a big refund when I left. They had no idea what my balance should have been so they estimated that they owed me £350 Grin .

mrspitt · 02/03/2018 19:15

I've just switched to OVO from extraenergy can't comment so far particularly on customer service but don't go to extraenergy 😡

Graphista · 02/03/2018 19:15

"Avoid E.On like the plague!!!" Thanks for the heads up! I am telling as many as possible NOT to use utilita.

There are vulnerable customers on their SM (elderly, disabled, newborns in the property - even people on oxygen - that aren't getting replies - SHOCKING behaviour. And it's not that they can't reply - because they're thanking ANY customer that says anything remotely positive! 😡)

Nocake - yea I was with them years ago, again very bad and expensive and STILL better than utilita.

"they are all shit" 😂 admittedly that's pretty much what charity said - but they also conceded utilita one of the worst.

Ovo seem to be getting most recs so far.

Re bulb I'm also sceptical of a company less than 5 years old and offering cash incentives to drum up custom.

OP posts:
Graphista · 02/03/2018 19:17

I'm currently on smart meter with utilita - do ovo use them? Or will it be a case of estimates/in person meter readings?
