The worst birthday I have ever had was on my 10th birthday we were meant to be going out bowling but we discovered I had nits so had to treat that instead

25th birthday. First night working in a pub in Australia when I was travelling. Did a 12 hour shift glass collecting (apparently everyone had to do glass collecting only on their first shift) with one twenty minute break. Glass washer was directly behind the bit of the bar where everyone sat and smoked. Got home and was too exhausted to even eat the cake my boyfriend had bought me. Worst birthday ever.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 02/03/2018 12:01

Sorry to read some of these stories. Some horrible sounding birthdays. Flowers

Nowhere near as sad as those, but my worst was probably my 16th, when utter scumbags gate crashed the party I was having at my parents’ house. It was hideous. They broke a window and some revolting, extremely unbalanced woman attacked a friend of mine, dragged her across the garden by her hair and threatened to put her face through a car window. Police were called several times, as they just kept coming back. I’ll never let my dcs throw parties when they’re teenagers! It’s put me off for life.

I had a miscarriage on my birthday in 2005. Not good.

Sarsparella · 02/03/2018 12:04

On my 40th birthday I was booked in for an 8 week scan after getting a BFP on our last round of ivf after years of treatment for infertility

The nurse found no heartbeat, despite me having no symptoms of a miscarriage

mossyroundhill · 02/03/2018 12:04

And there was me feeling sorry for myself that I'll be snowed in on my birthday this weekend. Feel quite ashamed now.
Flowers for all of you.

My 26th....my mum was suffering with terminal cancer aged 52 and my dad was looking after her....2 days after my birthday he died from a massive heart attack...mum died 4 months later.

BouncingIntoGraceland · 02/03/2018 12:06

Clearing my dad's house as he had died the day before.

KTD27 · 02/03/2018 12:08

The one when my grandad died. I was 32. I knew something had happened when I didn’t get a phone call that morning with him singing. He’d collapsed that morning. Still have the card he wrote me that year though. Will treasure it always

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/03/2018 12:09

My worst birthday was the year I was 40+4 with DS2, it was a baking hot day. He ended up being born at 41+6 after a sweep. Hmm

slothface · 02/03/2018 12:09

I had an abortion on my 25th. The father had the same birthday as me, and I made him come with me. I didn't really want him there, there was no emotion or sentimentality about it, we'd already broken up by that point but I thought, if I have to spend the day in hospital on my birthday then so does he!

That doesn't actually stick out as my worst though. I find the ones where people you thought were friends make no effort whatsoever (and I don't mean I was expecting a huge surprise party, I literally mean a happy birthday text would have sufficed!)

Timeforatincture · 02/03/2018 12:10

Nothing like some of these, but the birthday a couple of years ago when I was afflicted by a kidney stone wasn't much fun. Boy did that hurt.

AliasGrape · 02/03/2018 12:10

The first one after my mum died was shit.

Also the first one after my ex (of 13 years) left a few days before our wedding because he’d been cheating and got someone else pregnant. That had been a few months before, my friends and family were amazing and rallied round to try and give me a nice birthday but I came down with the flu, tried to power on through but had to run out of the restaurant before we’d even ordered, throw up on the floor, jump in a cab home and stay in bed alternately burning/shivering/vomiting for the next 3 days. Fun.

expatinscotland · 02/03/2018 12:10

When DD1 was having chemo in hospital. I came home to swap places with DH and got a vomiting bug. Had to stay here for 5 days with the other two kids who were being sick, too. I was terrified DD1 would get it too.

JaceLancs · 02/03/2018 12:10

In hospital lying in total darkness with a suspected brain tumour - trying to be cheery when DC came to visit with cards and gifts
It wasn’t a tumour but I was in and out of hospital and off work for months

Trooperslane2 · 02/03/2018 12:17

Miscarriage on my 35th.

DH had gone to the pub and bought me an arctic roll for my birthday.

(It was a one off... he's really lovely and clearly had a brain fart that day. He has made up for it since)

InteriorLulu · 02/03/2018 12:17

The one (thirty something) where a 'friend' spiked my drink. That was fun, thanks Hmm. Especially since I've never taken recreational drugs.

Was ill the whole weekend and very wobbly going back to work on the Monday.

Trooperslane2 · 02/03/2018 12:17

Yeah then had another miscarriage on Christmas Day that year.

That was a fun year.

Usedaname01 · 02/03/2018 12:18

I spent my 15th in a psychiatric unit due to an eating disorder, I'd been there for a couple weeks and was hoping to go home for my birthday and Christmas (My birthday is on the 27th). However they said no because of the state I was in, I understand why they did now but at the time I was so angry. But since then my birthday's have been really good

kaytee87 · 02/03/2018 12:20

The year my gran had a heart attack on my birthday and i was travelling home by ferry then long drive. Felt completely helpless.
She survived the heart attack and 3 weeks later had a stroke that left her permanently disabled.

Sutre · 02/03/2018 12:34

The worst one I ever had was my most recent where I started miscarrying and hadn't told DH I was pregnant so tried to carry on making the best of the evening. He turned up to meet me almost an hour late and seemed to be in a strop about something and I generally just felt I couldn't cope and felt alone and desperate.

Mar1984 · 02/03/2018 12:38

Last year my 33rd my ExH picked a fight with me 3 days before my birthday and totally ignored me me. On my birthday I didn’t get a single card or present even from our children, the school phoned me and said DS7 was sobbing and refused to work as he thought he had let mummy down and so they pulled him out of class to make a card and present. I dropped children at my parents, and went and sat in the cinema and watched beauty and the beast on my own. By the time I had got home ExH had packed and moved out, I felt so relieved and went to bed and ate cake

AEJS · 02/03/2018 12:40

Last year. My 41st.
Spent away from my family in a psychiatric hospital with PTSD and severe depression. I became obsessed with the idea that I should die on the same day as I was born and spent the day trying to figure out how.

I'm much better now and hope that this years will be happier.

DenPerry · 02/03/2018 12:40

My 30th as my dad had died 2 weeks earlier. It just felt so empty and pointless and poignant.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 02/03/2018 12:41

My 20th, my DB had died suddenly 2 weeks before.
My 26th was memorable for the fact that I ended up accidentally hoovering up cat shit & then spent several hours pulling the hoover apart to clean it.

juneau · 02/03/2018 12:41

I'm torn between my 21st, when I had tonsilitis, my 25th on a training course where I didn't know anyone or my 27th when my bf broke up with me ...
