Marketing email from Jamie's Italian.
AIBU to question the wisdom of encouraging people out in Red Weather alerts?

I understand there's a failing empire to prop up, but ffs show a smidge of intelligence.

Hmm

My Dc’s School is closed however we have been for a walk to go sledging and going to walk to the pub soon . Although not a Jamie’s near by you aren’t blocked in the house when schools close

WhyBeDennyDifferent · 01/03/2018 17:10

What’s the issue?
My local Italian do the same offer and have been advertising. It’s a good way to get people in. If they feel ok to travel then what is the problem?

Willow2017 · 01/03/2018 17:14

If you live near one its hardly dangerous to walk down the street!
Many people could be glad of free kids meals. Nobody is being forced to go.

Of course its good business practice. Businesses are not there for fun they need to encourage people to use them.
Morrisons do free school kids meals and havent seen a thread on here complaining about them!

Riverside2 · 01/03/2018 17:14

I reached peak Jamie years ago.

I have a psychological filter now that blocks him out.

k2p2k2tog · 01/03/2018 17:14

Probably dreamt up by somewhere that has very little snow and is wondering what the fuss is about.

Even though the red alert is over here, we're still a foot deep in snow, the COuncil snowploughs appear to have vanished off the face of the earth and so no, I won't be travelling into town for a free meal.

IpreferFrieda · 01/03/2018 17:16

No issue it’s good marketing! Schools closed around here but not red alert

My DCs school is shut today, and shock horror - we went out for lunch! We walked. frankly it's not fear of the dangers of the local children walking to school that shut the school, but those who'd have to drive to school and more importantly, the staff having to travel. (Few live walking distance). There is no Jamie's Italian near us, but we walked to a chain pub for lunch.

Honestly OP - did you get your judgy pants on for parents walking children to parks to go sledging too? That was unnecessary travel too. (And we did that as well today ! I'm such a bad Mum in your world).

Just because your DCs are off school, doesn't mean you must stay indoors .

NoSquirrels · 01/03/2018 17:32

This thread is funny. FSM at Jamie's Grin - now THAT would be a better marketing ploy.

If you can walk to a Jamie's, it might be worth it. If you can't, you're unlikely to travel for the sake of a free kids meal. So I do rather think you might have your thermal underwear in a knot, OP.

NewYearNewMe18 · 01/03/2018 17:39

Ah - just because kids live with the RP on FSM , it doesn't mean the NRP is on their uppers and frankly 2 courses for less than £15, and child eating free, means a per meal price of £3.75 which is cheaper than a Big Mac meal - which lots of you MN-ers think is the holy grail of haute cuisine.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 01/03/2018 17:42

If today wasn't a work day I'd have been all over that offer!

For most of us there was absolutely no need to sit indoors today.

NoSquirrels · 01/03/2018 18:00

2 courses for less than £15, and child eating free, means a per meal price of £3.75

err, usually it's one child eats free per adult, so you'd be doubling that price.

SnibbleAgain · 01/03/2018 18:29
  • drinks?

they're going to get you somewhere, right?

@gingergenius I was thinking a monitor! Wow, I'm so out of touch, these youngsters going out and getting cutting edge cocktails mixed by barmen like out of cocktail!
