AIBU to think this is complete incompetence or can this actually happen?
Am thinking the train doors could be frozen shut?
Not quite sure how he is going to get off at the next stop if that's the case.

It can happen. I've had to run to the next carriage before because one was faulty

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/03/2018 11:21

Tell him to try different carriage!

insancerre · 01/03/2018 11:21

Tell him to use a different door

swapsicles · 01/03/2018 11:21

Maybe speak to a member of train staff before he gets to the next stop?
I suppose they could be frozen shut but surely he's not the only one on the train and other doors opened? He could have gone to one of those instead?

purplecorkheart · 01/03/2018 11:22

Could be a fault.Hopefully he will move to a different carriage. I assume he knows about the green button

Sallycinnamum · 01/03/2018 11:23

FFS, what's incompetent about the fact the doors have frozen shut?

Tell him to walk down the carriage and get off further down.

loveka · 01/03/2018 11:24

It was on the local news last night that train doors can freeze shut!

I have almost done this myself, on an unfamiliar train.

BlondeB83 · 01/03/2018 11:24

Was it an older train where you have to learn out of the window to open it?

BlondeB83 · 01/03/2018 11:24

lean

jay55 · 01/03/2018 11:24

Was it a push button or stick your arm out the window sort?

DrEustaciaBenson · 01/03/2018 11:25

Used to happen frequently on a particular type of train that was introduced on a line I travel on. The trains were known for it, so everyone was prepared to run down to the next door if necessary.

Quite possibly ice affecting the door today.

Nicknacky · 01/03/2018 11:28

Does he actually NEED to be told to move to a different carriage?!

liz70 · 01/03/2018 11:28

We grew up with MerseyRail trains where all the doors are simultaneously remotely opened and closed by the guard at stations. First time my parents visited us in Glasgow where we now live, they stood puzzled by the carriage door waiting it for it to open, while the train sailed past their station. They didn't realise you had to actually to push a button to open the door if you wanted to get off or on. Grin

Whatshallidonowpeople · 01/03/2018 11:28

Some doors don't open at some stations

Mind, I can't talk. I had to ask DH what all those lines above the trains were for. Confused

drspouse · 01/03/2018 11:34

DD would say the train had run out of battery. But she is 3.

EB123 · 01/03/2018 11:35

This happened to me as a teenager, doors just didn't open and it was the last train so around midnight.
I was only 16 so the guard kept me on until the last station(the others were small unmanned stations) and got me into a taxi home paid by the train company. My mum was frantic as she had been at the station waiting to pick me up!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 01/03/2018 11:35

I don;t know where in the country you are, but because of the snow and cold, my trains are barely running. I'm not at all surprised that the doors can freeze- my back door has. Your husband could have pressed the emergency alarm or walked through to another carriage, surely?
Not really sure what you're so pissed off about here. Things sometimes don't work. It happens.

kyrenialady · 01/03/2018 11:37

Can he go to the next door down and try that one.

InvisibleUnicorn · 01/03/2018 11:37

It happened to me once that I couldn't open the doors. They weren't frozen though, the driver/guard had forgotten to release them.

I kicked up a fuss when I found the guard and they denied it 🙄 I was the only person trying to get off, and nobody was waiting to get on.

I slightly tearfully explained to the station manager at the next station and he put me and little DD in a taxi back to the previous station where my car was and put in a complaint on my behalf.

I too have read that they can freeze shut.

JacquesHammer · 01/03/2018 11:39

It does happen - I was on a train this morning where they made the announcement that due to the weather some doors were frozen and gave info on which doors were working.

TheJoyOfSox · 01/03/2018 11:39

I once saw a lady who pressed the button a couple of times and the door didn’t open. We was on the train, she had to phone her husband to pick her up from the next stop.
We talked about it, I assured her I saw her press the button firmly, we then walked to the next door to exit. I don’t think it was particularly cold that night, so I guess my point is, these push button doors do fail sometimes.

wendz86 · 01/03/2018 11:39

The door on my train wouldn't open today so we went down and got out the next door.
