AIBU to think this is complete incompetence or can this actually happen?
Am thinking the train doors could be frozen shut?
Not quite sure how he is going to get off at the next stop if that's the case.

Yes, the doors on my train froze this morning. It's not uncommon at all in very cold weather - roughly half the doors were frozen, from what I could see.

snewsname · 01/03/2018 11:42

Dneice couldn't work out the door on her first train journey alone. Her parents waiting to pick her up had to drive to the next station miles away It was her fault though.

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 01/03/2018 11:46

There have been stories in the news today that trains have been delayed or cancelled due to doors freezing open or shut.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/03/2018 11:49

This has happened to me loads in all seasons, the train operators then arrange for me to have free transportation to my destination station. I think it’s a fault on automatic doors.

Tippz · 01/03/2018 11:49

Leave the bastard.

Obviously shagging someone else. (The conductor obviously.)

What a cunt.

/ joking obvs! Grin

Bit weird though. Never known this before.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/03/2018 11:50

By the time he's tried to open it he won't have time to run down the carriage to next door surely?
At least he got home though.

PinkSquash · 01/03/2018 11:50

I couldn't get off a train door, I went to the next carriage door along and got off the train and informed a member of staff... It's not difficult

Ratonastick · 01/03/2018 11:52

Happens a lot on the new GWR electric trains. The push button doors often don’t work so you have to leg it through the carriage. If you only have to go one carriage you are fine, but more than that and you are buggered. So far I have only had a single carriage panicky run, but I do get nervous if i’m on a late train. Still, that’s progress and investment for you.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2018 11:59

Maybe speak to a member of train staff before he gets to the next stop?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Doors malfunctioning seem to be very common on the line I live on. Well I don't live on the line, but near

PinkSquash · 01/03/2018 12:00

Rat please complain every time it happens with the time of the train, if enough people complain they'll have to listen, Cos they don't listen to staff...

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2018 12:00

Good luck with finding a member of staff at my unmanned station and on guardless trains...

PinkSquash · 01/03/2018 12:07

BOOP it's why I'm against driver only operation (DOO), it is a safety issue. They want my colleagues to go DOO, and it's ridiculous.

I also tweet if there's no staff about, but FFS the fleet should be maintained well enough to run correctly on a journey

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 12:10

Your husband could have pressed the emergency alarm

No, just no, the alarm is designed for emergencies

bluescreen · 01/03/2018 12:10

FB friend posted yesterday that doors had frozen shut and people had to stay on till next station to get help to get off, then wait for a train back. Massive delay to their journey, which was already delayed. It's been v cold up north!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2018 12:10

I absolutey agree PinkSquash

2015newstart · 01/03/2018 12:11

On diesel trains water/snow will melt near the engines or any heat source when the train gets moving. This then dribbles down the sides of the trains and freezes solidly over the doors, acting like bands of ice. I've seen it happen fairly frequently in the north. The electric motor in the door then may not be powerful enough to break the ice.

SweetMoon · 01/03/2018 12:13

EB123 that was so nice of him. I'd like to think guards like that are still around in case my girls ever get in that situation

AwayAndStuffYourself · 01/03/2018 12:14

Twitter was full of train doors freezing shut or open last night. So yes, it can happen. It's weather, not incompetence.

ChikiTIKI · 01/03/2018 12:15

Sometimes the operator forgets to unlock the doors so you can open them. Annoying if you're on the last train home!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2018 12:19

It's been pretty parky down douth too. -9 last night. -4 now at midday

DarthNigel · 01/03/2018 12:27

It happened to me once. Door wouldn't open when I pressed the button. Ended up having to go all the way into London and back out (added two hours to my journey) why would you think it impossible? Things break...

mollied · 01/03/2018 12:43

I'm sure it happens especially as this is colder than we normally have it, but regardless I think this is really funny!

MarklahMarklah · 01/03/2018 12:44

Yes, a friend posted about something similar yesterday. Passengers had to get off through the driver's carriage as none of the other doors would open.
