To think Clearblue should recall their Easy Read tests!

Just that really. I am fed up of seeing post after post of threads from people who have got all excited from a Clearblue test and it’s plainly false hope. I am talking massively convincing positives, not grey evap lines.

I have attached one of mine from last year and I got it time and time again until I realised that I wasn’t pregnant. Luckily I am pregnant now, but what about the people that try and try. Just makes me Angry!
Why are they still allowed to sell this expensive crappy tests???
I am thinking to make them aware (I am sure lots of people have) Does anyone else have pics of their FPS?

How do you know they aren’t chemicals? I’m curious because I’m never sure.

PotteringAlong · 28/02/2018 10:04

That’s a positive pregnancy test. If you got it time and time again you were pregnant and had a miscarriage.

RLOU88 · 28/02/2018 10:05

Because every other test comes back negative the same day as these come back positives. Even FRERs which are more sensitive?

OP posts:
Chienrouge · 28/02/2018 10:06

I’ve used these tests and had positives, but only when I was pregnant.
How do you know you weren’t pregnant when these tests were taken?

RLOU88 · 28/02/2018 10:07

PotteringAlong - I had 3 weeks of testing last year all these ones positive and all others negatives. Bloods negative the day this was positive.

I had a test that looked just like that. 9 months later I had a baby. Confused

Granted Clearblue are over priced and no better than unbranded ones.

RLOU88 · 28/02/2018 10:08

I have honestly lost count of the number of posts on here of people getting these lines and taking other brands of tests on the same day and getting negatives.

OP posts:
RLOU88 · 28/02/2018 10:09

I am not denying that mostly people that get lines are pregnant. Obviously that happens in most cases. My point is when it happens when you aren’t.

I've never used the ones with the lines. Too much potential confusion! Clear blue digital all the way - I like it being spelled out for me!

I've always believed you can get false negatives but not false positives.

Telling my GP I had a one positive was enough to start maternity care each time.

steff13 · 28/02/2018 10:14

If this is a known issue, I think people need to vote with their wallets and stop buying the tests.

AgnesBrownsCat · 28/02/2018 10:15

It could be worse

I done the digital about 4 hours after the “positive test” and it said “not pregnant” strange.

Angnea- very funny !

gamerchick · 28/02/2018 10:20

I’d have those awful digital tests banned me. But people seem to like spending silly money on shit they’re just going to piss on. Brain boggles man Grin

beepthemeep · 28/02/2018 10:23

Wine - the menopause can give a false positive sometimes, apparently.

Marvellous, just a bit more fun to chuck into being a woman, eh??!

keepingbees · 28/02/2018 10:25

I've only ever used clearblue to confirm when cheap ones said I was pregnant, but yes I've seen lots of posts on here with people having false hope with lines on these tests that have turned out to be negatives.
So I agree with what you're doing as for some it would be devastating.

StickThatInYourPipe · 28/02/2018 10:26

I stopped buying these tests for the same reason OP YANBU

I’m unsure why so many people seem to be disbelieving you, just because something was a certain way for one person, does not mean it’s the same for every person!

CatsForgotPassword · 28/02/2018 10:32

I don’t think people are not believing her im just unsure how to tell a positive from an evap.

seetherange · 28/02/2018 10:33

Yea I had the same issue with the clear blue. Gave me a big fat positive when I was clearly not pregnant

mamabear2010 · 28/02/2018 10:33

i never got a positive with clear blue , hes now 4 , i dont like them over priced

McDougalMcPhee · 28/02/2018 10:36

I've always believed you can get false negatives but not false positives.

me too, is this not the case then?

The most common explanation for a "false positive" is that you really were pregnant when you took the test. "Some women can get a positive pregnancy test and then three days after their period is due, they have a really heavy period," says Lanalee Araba Sam, M.D., an ob-gyn in Fort Lauderdale. "Really what they've had is an early miscarriage called a chemical pregnancy, and a lot of people call that a false positive. They don't recognize it as a positive pregnancy test that ultimately results in miscarriage." Dr. Sam explains that as many as 25 to 40 percent of pregnancies may end as an early often-undetected miscarriage. Some women don't even know they're pregnant in the first place.

YANBU - I also frequent the conception and pregnancy boards, I see many many false positives on evaps - many women, who like you then get bloods done to be found they aren't pregnant. It's awful and clear blue are awful. It's when they show positives but other, better known sensitive tests, such as first responses don't that you know they are just shit.

I do like their digital tests, but only after I've had a positive on a pink dye test.

Luckily I knew this waaaay before I ever needed one so never actually bought a clear blue. Their name is a misnoma, they are anything but clear!

anotherchangetomyname · 28/02/2018 10:38

The thing is clear blue do give false positives. Generally you can't get false positives, but with clear blue you can and do - they clear blue is 'positive' but other, more sensitive tests are ngative, bloods are negative and period turns up on time and at usual flow.

They are also very bad for making women think they've had lots of chemical pregnancy's when in all likelihood they haven't.

Shattered04 · 28/02/2018 10:39

Agree with OP - blue line tests are notorious for it. I don't have a photo on me, but I've had positives on them before, when about twenty other tests have been negative and stay negative until my period comes. Mostly internet cheapies, but if you know what you're doing with them they're very reliable and usually more sensitive than most regular tests.

That said, the blue line tests can sometimes show a line before any other test, but unless it's "backed up" a day or so later with a FRER (which can also sometimes have a very faint false positive - had a few myself) and a few of the internet cheapies, is worthless.

Most people don't test until their period is due or at a more "sane" 10dpo onwards, so lines on other non-blue tests should be nice and clear and unambiguous at that point.

They are notoriously shit. I had a false positive before DS was made.

The absolute worst though are Superdrug. You are pretty much guaranteed to get a ‘positive’ result whether your pregnant or not.
