Name changed as this is quite weird, please bear with me:

I've known him, (let's call him John) for quite a few years and never had any reason to think he had a family: think lonely Christmases, etc., he always works, including weekends and bank holidays, lives alone.

After DH and I started chatting with John/seeing more of him, he told us about his wife, who is from another country and lives about 3 hours away, they don't have children. Nice to know he's not on his own. So far so great.

Except that the more we get to know John and the more he talks to us, the louder alarm bells are ringing; basically we can no longer ignore the fact that his wife sounds like a textbook scammer.

AIBU to ask WWYD?

Living 3 hours away from DH? Fantastic idea! I've extended my marriage by 5 years by living a good 2.5 hours away from mine and not having communicated over said 5 years

Grany Grin

Thanks for the link Tumblr

Hissy I agree, but for that he would need to open his eyes, somehow.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I was starting to feel like an insane curtain twitcher, so, good to know that it's not loopy to be concerned in this case.

If you can find out where she is could you report to immigration authorities as a possible sham marriage - and protect your friend by saying you think he's unaware and being scammed? Now usually I'd say shopping someone to immigration as low as gets, but not for a scammer.

I'm sure immigration people have seen this before and may be able to open his eyes to what's going on by telling him that!
