I’m in NW, due to fly to Edinburgh tomorrow.Weather reports look horrendous but I feel bad! The same flight this morning was delayed 3 hours anyway!

Wow @DragonNoodleCake you are BRAVE. I would be either hibernating there I think 😂

TinaMena · 27/02/2018 21:05

What do you do for work that's so important that you are considering ignoring the warnings? You could become stranded somewhere and become an unnecessary diversion for the emergency services

whiteonesugar · 27/02/2018 21:07

Don't do it, DH is there now trying to get back to London, his flight was cancelled and he managed to get on another one but it hasn't even left yet and it's over an hour delayed.

Stay at home!

MoorMummy · 27/02/2018 21:10

Still reading, flight back from Edinburgh still showing as delayed. White one hope DH gets back.

Definitely not essential travel, so I’ll just dial in.

@Elektro it's ok, there is only about an inch outside and hasn't snowed for hours. DH said there is even less at home in Midlothian.
I'm keeping an eye on it in case I need to leave early 😀

DragonNoodleCake · 27/02/2018 21:47

Good plan @MoorMummy as it's tomorrow that's got the worst forecast

itstimeforanamechange · 27/02/2018 21:51

Even if it doesn't snow anymore it's very cold and the roads and pavements will be super-icy (and I am in the south of England). I would not be travelling anywhere in the next few days unless lives depended on it. I walked into my local town earlier today and although there was little lying snow, the pavements were very slippery. They can only get worse, and only the most important roads get salted. I wouldn't be trying to get to an airport or elsewhere. Don't go.

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/02/2018 21:57

Seriously, it’s a bit of snow and ice. I wouldn’t be flying anywhere south (I’m in Scotland) but not leaving the house every time it snowed, was very cold or icy would have me at home from the end of November until March.

FreeNiki · 27/02/2018 22:01

I flew to Munich in far worse snow than this.

Mind you Germany can cope with snow whereas Scotland probably can't.

FreeNiki · 27/02/2018 22:02

The whole of the UK grinds to a halt with any bit.of bad weather.

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/02/2018 22:05

No, the whole of the U.K. doesn’t, we’ve had snow all winter and have just got on with it.

Willow2017 · 27/02/2018 22:31

Unfortunately the whole of the UK doesnt grind to a halt. I drove home this pm in a horrific hailstorm, was terrifying but I had no choice.

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2018 22:36

You're right elektro it was thicker last time. I remember clearing my car then and compared to today it was maybe three times as deep. Wonder why this time is seen as so apocalyptic whereas then it was just snow.

ratspeaker · 27/02/2018 22:44

Fife and Borders council have closed schools for tomorrow.
Its a wee bit breezy at present, hearing what sounds like hail stones on our north/ east facing windows.
I follow Windy Wilson weather on facebook, bit sweary but accurate forecasts ( mostly)

Also seems we " on cusp of red warning"

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/02/2018 22:45

I’m guessing because snow fell south of the Watford Gap...

margotsdevil · 27/02/2018 22:48

If your work is open it's expected that you make the effort to get there in out council... our schools are still open as normal.

ratspeaker · 27/02/2018 22:50

Edinburgh council issued warning schools may close, parentsand carers to listen in to Radio Forth in am.

We have DD2 here, she's due to travel to Glasgow tomorrow. Im wndering if thats wise now. And DS has a pal here.
Time to look out airbeds and extra duvets

italiancortado · 27/02/2018 22:53

It's a wee sprinkle of snow for fuck sake. Get a grip

It's comments like this that cause people to doubt their sensible decisions and go out anyway ffs.

People have already DIED. You are the one who needs to get a grip.

Elektro · 28/02/2018 08:21

I take it back. It worse this time 😂

liz70 · 28/02/2018 08:28

Glasgow schools and UWS campuses shut today too.

k2p2k2tog · 28/02/2018 08:28

It's not a "wee sprinkle of snow" this morning. OP you made the right call. Amber warnings covering all of central Scotland meaning avoid all but essential travel.

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/02/2018 08:29

It’s not worse here, it’s the lightest snow we’ve had so far and yet schools etc are closed. I’ve taken the kids to school in much worse weather this year.

19lottie82 · 28/02/2018 08:34

I’m just outside Glasgow and there’s about 6” so far.

Last time it snowed there wasn’t nearly enough roads gritted as the council ran out of salt....

ratspeaker · 28/02/2018 08:43

Yup. Edinburgh college closed. Edinburgh schools closed.

Glasgow the same. Good news ( for us) isGlasgow uni closed too so DD2 doesn't need to travel through, just as well as I would be reluctant to drive the M8 today.

MoorMummy · 28/02/2018 09:55

Actually flight out went a bit late but has gone, I wasn’t on it though! Half the people in the Edinburgh office haven’t made it in anyway!
